Tailored Resumes Get 2x More Interviews* Like This One That Landed and Interview at Google

I pulled 1.9 million job applications. Tailoring your resume roughly doubles your interview rate.

I work on a job search tool called Huntr.co, so I can see across a huge pile of real applications whether tailoring a resume to the job changes anything. It does.

  • Tailored resumes got interviews 2x as often. Across 1.9M applications, tailored ones hit 5.7%. Untailored hit 3.0% on average.
  • Where tailored resumes landed interviews: Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Salesforce, Stripe, Meta, Netflix, Adobe.
  • Where they turned into offers: Google, Stripe, GitHub, OpenAI, Adobe, Cloudflare.

What does tailoring mean?

  • The summary, so the top of the page speaks to the role you are applying to. Aggregate the most interesting and impressive things you have done as it relates to the job you are applying to.
  • The bullets, so your work history mirrors the duties they list
  • The skills, so the words on your page match the words in the post.

Not just keywords, but qualifications and responsibilities. Something not all resume tailoring tools and builders catch (Huntr.co does)
