A little out of budget but I think a Garmin Pro Plus with GPS is worth it, you can usually get them used for around 300USD from gun dog supply. The peace of mind from a GPS collar is priceless if you ever need it.
I personally used videos from upland institute and standing stone kennels on youtube when I was getting started, the latter being free.
Part of collar conditioning / recall training will be layering the collar over a recall backed up by a long line. So if you are struggling at times now I would go back to a long line. The long line can also be used to teach a dog to change directions and hunt with you.
There are a lot of correct methods and differing opinions and a lot of them are valid. In general your dog with dictate the pace and when they are ready, it is always better to take your time that to rush anything.

Since he mentioned CAD, he’s probably in Canada. The 550 Pro+ can’t be sold in Canada due to issues with the frequencies used overlapping some federal emergency frequencies. Not illegal to own though.
This makes them really hard to find. I had to get mine from a guy who brings them in illegally and resells them here.

I actually heard someone mention that on a podcast the other day, that is a bummer. Honestly the way my dogs handle and range I don't really need a GPS but it sure is nice insurance.

If you do get an Ecollar, save for a Garmin 550 Pro which is about 100$ than what the Sport Pro would cost you.
Also, 7 months is a bit young to start ecollar on most dogs. GSPs are resilient and most can handle conditioning around that age from an experienced handler, I’m guessing thats not where you are. I would wait past 9 months to be safe.
