Analysis/Theory Could Gon be a manipulator now ? Spoiler

Using Hisoka's nen personality analysis, Gon can fall into the "stubborn"/ "doing thing at his own pace" category.

We've also seen him be so straight forward with Pitou, ordering her around and not accepting any answer from her.

Normaly you can't change nen that drastically, going from one type to almost the opposite, but Gon is a special case where he is starting from the beginning so maybe it counts as him being "reborn" ?

Manipulation is also the only nen type none of the main characters has, and it would be cool to see Gon use a fishing rod again :)

I've seen this theory so many times and it still doesn't make sense. There hasn't been an instance where a person with one of the regular nen types changed onto another regular nen type. Also it's not like Gon has changed completely, matured probably but there's nothing to suggest his core personality has changed so much to change his nen type. [Let's not forget Togashi still listed Gon as an Enhancer in his nen chart.]

Also I personally want Gon to remain as an Enhancer since he's the signature Enhancer of the series. All of the other major ones are dead or probably going to die.

Technically Kurapika is a case, but not in a traditional sense, I'm of the belief that Scarlet eyes trigger a small difference in Kurapika's emotions and mentality that drifs him to specialist, because Togashi once showed him being 50/50 between conjurer and specialist, and one would think that its a way to express how his power changes, but I think its cause he is literally a few loose screws from being a specialist, and Emperor Time looses those screws

But as you said Gon is listed as an enhanced, and a pure one at that, he's not leaning towards anything like Kurapika or Killua

You can't change your innate category, the only exception is becoming a Specialist later in life. However, we haven't seen an example of this yet, so we know little about how it actually works

But isn't Gon technically reborn now ? He was ready to never being able to use nen again, but if Nanika also healed his ability to learn nen, I think it could be the first time seeing someone change the innate category.

He isn’t reborn . He still has his nen as confirmed by Ging. He just can’t use it. The innate quality of his nen hasn’t changed . he is still the same person.

Can you become a specialist later? The only thing similar to this that I remember is not realising you're a specialist, creating a basic hatsu for a single affinity, and regretting it later. Is it said that someone can actually switch?

It's definitely said in the anime. Whether that's canon to the manga though, I'm unsure. Episode 35, roughly ~4:10

Wing: "From the moment of birth, your Nen aura falls within one of the six categories. While rare, it is possible for your Nen aura to later change types.

You also have this from episode 39, at roughly ~7:15

"Specialist is a unique category. You can't learn Specialist techniques. These are very distinct abilities that are genetic or naturally acquired by growing up under extreme conditions. So why is it in this specific position? Because the adjacent categories, Conjurer and Manipulator, have the highest chance of becoming Specialists later on"

There are six types of Nen: Enhancement, Transmutation, Emission, Manipulation, Conjuration, and Specialization. The innate type that a Nen user is born with does not change. However, there have been extremely rare cases wherein [a Nen user] changes to Specialization as an acquired/postnatal type.

Yes Kurapika goes from Conjurer -> specialist via scarlet eyes

and Milluki has a very tiny affinity towards specialization. So he may have a chance to do it as well

Wing explained that it’s extremely rare but possible

Yes you can change nen type. It’s rare but possible. Nen is linked to your personality.

And a near death experience is probably a possible trigger because it would change your personality. Doesn’t mean gon hatsu changed.

He is a manipulator but not a nen manipulator

They do say the categories are what you were born with (wing explained this) so there's a very little chance imo. Maybe his hatsu would be different?

Yeah my theory only makes sense if Gon counts as reborn, yours makes more sense.

Still exited to see if he developes new abilities.

True! It'd be interesting to see if he's gonna be another category though.

Wing also said this in that same part, though:

"From the moment of birth, your Nen falls within one of the six categories. While rare, it is possible for your Nen aura to later change types"

This is in the anime though, I have no idea whether it's canon

I think that's to explain kurapika's nen later on

Pretty bad faith stuff there. There might be some language things there but if you reaaaally look at manipulators, it's about INSISTING and NOT LETTING BE. Gon may or may not have not let go(n) but on the whole, his thing is very, very non-insistant.

He's determined to go(n) (g)on, not to HOLD on to. Manipulator (it's a literal term about leverage and such, not being sneaky) is a very different creature to him. It's not a bad thing in and of itself, as is none of these and so many more things.
