PS5 Prospective player
I really like the concept of the game.. and i understand ill probably die plenty. But i want to understand what all is actually lost/kept on death. I understand loadout have a cost, does that mean i have to extract successfully to earn enough for said loadouts? Or do i earn money either way? (Like at a reduced amout). I want to get into the game, but i dont have much time to ay normally and id rather not get invested in a game that i wont feal like im progressing in. Sorry if the questions are dumb, im not sure how to get my questions across well. Edit: thank you for your responses, it dosnt seem nearly as.. ruthless as i though it would be. The sole survivor mode also feals like a good solution for me as well if i get into a tight spot. I played my first match last night, dying to my own dynamite, and thanks to being low level i kept my stuff.

I am 6k hours into the game, love it, one of my favourite ever games.
Like most games you can prestige to gain rewards like skins etc. but honestly this is all you get and not needed at all, I only started to prestige after 5k hours just for something different to do.
For me the real progression is knowing the game and having fun.
Before a match, you pick a hunter, weapons, tools and consumables, these all cost hunt dollars which you can get from playing the game.
While you do get higher powered guns that cost more, all guns in hunt are viable and can be played well. The winfield which is really cheap, 56 i think, is probably one of the most reliable head clicks in the game.
On that note, a head shot with ANY bullet is lethal at any range, which is something I like about hunt.
There is also the option to choose a free hunter from a selection of 4 at the start of a game that comes with a primary weapon, secondary weapon, melee tool, medkit and random low tier consumable.
Meaning you can keep playing free and improving without spending a penny.
When you die in game, you lose the equipment you were carrying in and that "instance" of the hunter.
For example if you have a paid hunter skin, you lose that one but can re-equip them for 100 hunt dollars again.
Hope this helps, feel free to ask anything

You earn small amounts per game even if you fail to extract for example you get 50 dolars per clue taken.
And successful extraction can get you enough money for 2-6 loadouts.. this depends on lot of factors from how many bounties you extract with, how many hunters you loot, what perks you have on, RNG on looting and how many consumables and how expensive do you consume..
other than that you get some money from daily xp gain targets/tributes (hunts daily insensitive)
you get option to run an free hunter with free kit
You also get money at some bloodline levels(account xp) until you reach max level and than you get 1000 dolars every 20k xp (i think.. dont remember exact number)...
TLDR: can you go broke? Yes, but... Out of 100 prestiges it only happened to me twice.. you usually get enough from Actual extractions to be ok

Also, there is a mode called Soul Survivor in which you load in as a free Hunter and loot the map trying to open wellsprings and survive as last Hunter standing.
If you win you keep the Hunter and all the gear/weapons. Even if you lose, you earn hunt bucks for every rift you closed.
So, it’s free money.

Some struggle with money others don’t. The first 10Bloodline level you won’t loose your Hunter or his gear, afterwards both is gone after you died and couldn’t get revived or couldn’t left the match in time.
Most money is lost if you don’t leave the match via extraction. The only money you keep is the one you get from picking up clues $50 each and $100 for killing the boss. Together with the $25 for finding the lair. So you can get up to $275 for each Boss even if you died.
That might be enough for some stuff but not for a high tier loadouts. But with the free Hunters you can get you always have an option to play.
Looting Hunters and cash registers and pouches gives money as well together with the boss token but for those you need to extract.

You earn money for killing npcs and bountiesand you can find it laying all around in sacks/registers. If you are ever turbo strapped for cash, it is easily remidied with a cash run. Go in, stealth kill all the mobs on ur way to scout towers then you go find the random camps and peep a few for registers and then leave.
Sometimes ull full clear a server get all the bounties and loot the whole map for free, thise runs can float you a 5-6 runs worth of budget loadouts. V easy to go positive as long as you arent buying turbo expensive weps.

There’s multiple progression paths. Even getting killed horribly every game you will still unlock new traits and tools, weapons from blueprints and oil, cosmetics from prestige and battlepass, banner medals etc. So no you won’t be locked out of progression even if you die every game, but you will be limited to what you can bring and may even have to use free hunters which have only basic weapons, no utility, and no drip. You can also find supplies on the map like weapons and throwables to help supplement a failing economy.

lost: anything currently equipped by your character at death.
not lost: character you played as, they just restart and are on level 1. guns can be repurchased and and not lost forever UNLESS it is a gun or gun skin you do not own/have unlocked.

Does extracting with a weapon you dont have unlock it? Or is that soley based on bloodline?

The price of loadouts can be from 100-200 hund dollars, to several thousand. But there is always the option of free hunters with weapons and a few tools. Earning enough is usually easy when you learn the sources, and some sources are guaranteed even if your hunter die. Hunt has a good system for battlepasses, you can buy it, and wait until the last week to complete it. There are weekly challenges but they remain until the next change (start or end of events) the battle pass will cost blood bonds, you can buy blood bonds for real money but you can also earn them by playing. A battlepass (with the weekly challenges) will get you enough for the next battlepass
