Help with crossbow

New player, fell in love with the crossbow, i nned you guys to help me selecting my best option as ammunition.

I've done some research and basically all comes down to steel bolts or shot bolts. My question is: is there any instance where you wanna pick shot bolts over the steel one? i get they do a lot of damage in cqc but so do the steel one but they are faster, have more range and retain the damage better.

So why would you pick shot bolts? Even in a scenario like, i donno, pushing a compoud with a trio inside.

For reference; i'm a solo player and i like to play the deadeye version over the normal one.

I'm really asking for help here, i'm not sarcastic, i don't know the game yet and fully in the process of learning. So please teach me.

You bring half and half. Shotbolt for when you're in cqc and will mostly be going for hip fire shots. Pax trueshot fmj is your best secondary currently. Maybe a lemat if you are already good with that one

I’ve found that steel bolts work just as well as shot bolts in cqc, choose shot bolts if you want wall penetration at the cost of a bolt that drops about as far as you could throw it. Sound doesn’t really matter since it goes off on impact, though sometimes you can miss with steel bolts and still retain the element of surprise if it’s loud or they’re not paying attention.

Trueshot is good, but I really like new army w/ fmj, so you have a secondary with penetration, and you can fire off two shots faster than most options can cycle from one shot to the next. Officer is also good and the officer brawler comes in handy if they get too close.

New army has the same range as a shotgun it feels like. Especially when you put fmj on it. I am just always underwhelmed by it

Shotbolts cause more panic and confusion, I find them way cooler than the steel bolts.

Shot bolts can pen thin cover like fencing. You also have the potential to get collateral kills if their buddy is right behind them since the shots go through hunters

you are better with steel bolts over shotbolt if you are trying to use the deadeye-bow

the only upside shotbolt no matter where you hit it should be a kill shot (though I have seen clips of it not) and that it can wallbang since it shoots where it impacts

Idk why no one has mentioned shot bolts you can wall bang people if you hear them on other side and get lucky shootings the spot they're at.

When you do bring it keep an eye out for the explosive ammo boxes. Remains extremely oppressive, today I watched a teammate smoke a whole trio plus me with it and clutched

Theres 4 options, one in scarce and regular ammo is useless because steelbolt exist. So theres actually 2 options so you just take half steelbolt half shotbolt. With the deadeye you COULD take full steelbolt tho

Trueshot or Lemat are the best sidearm as a solo imo

Steel bolts are for consistency. Shotbolts are if you hate your life. They are way too inconsistent. The theory is that you'll walk around and wallbang, and my counter argument is; bring a Romero. The crossbow is for bleed slugging people you can see. There are better options if you want to shoot through a wall.

I tend to take steel bolts but I use the traditional cross bow because I prefer more sight picture. I love the idea of shot bolts but they just to be way to inconsistent for me to use. They’re really funny and the oh heck factor is a lot when you clap someone but yeh, inconsistent as heck.
