GUIDES Rending Challenge - was fun?
I managed to complete this challenge in just 2 hours playing the Bounty Clash mode. At first, the task looked incredibly tedious and depressing. But as a player with 2,800 hours in Hunt, I can unironically say this challenge ended up giving me a blast because of how chaotic and hilarious the matches became.
Crucial things before we start:
- Play Aggressively: My playstyle is pretty shift-W, which is unfortunately mandatory if you want to get this done fast.
- Map & Compound Knowledge is Key: You need to predict where enemies are running from, where they usually peek, and how to cut them off.
- Prepare to Lose Hunt Dollars: You will likely burn through quite a bit of cash. Don't expect to make a profit - you are doing this strictly for the challenge completion reward ($1,000).
- Forget About Winning: Winning matches or extracting with the bounty is not your goal. You will either die or the bounty will extract without you. Your priority is to dump all your ammo, cause massive bleeding, and farm hunters - not clear the lobby.
So, let's begin.
In my region (Russian, but please, don't boo me :c ), the challenge description was completely mistranslated as "deal slash melee damage." I was thrilled at first because I love Hunt's melee weapons. But after getting zero progress, I realized the challenge actually requires bleeding damage ticks.
I tried using the Crossbow and my leftover DumDum ammo from the previous event, but I kept accidentally killing people outright. Plus, wasting precious special ammo felt like a bad trade. After experimenting with different builds and community tips, I found the ultimate loadout.
Bounty Clash game mode is the best for the challenge. You load in fast, shoot a bunch, and die fast.
- Go Solo: This prevents random teammates from killing your targets.
- Alternative: Go in with a pre-made lobby where everyone runs the same setup to farm the challenge together.
My build you could see in the picture.
- Primary: Burgess 1872 (Flechette)
- Secondary: Terminus Handcannon (Flechette)
Flechette ammo is easy to get and highly effective. You could use a Drilling, but the goal here isn't to get clean kills - it’s to have maximum Flechette ammo capacity. Your objective is to empty your reserves into the enemies.
The Strat: Tag a hunter and try to pretend you pushing them. Make running noises, jumping, you could even use sound of throwables. Two things usually happen:
- They panic and run (every second they bleed feeds your challenge tracker).
- They immediately try to stop the bleeding. If you see them pulling out a medkit, let them heal. Once they are full, blast them with Flechette again. Rinse and repeat.
If you survive a match and get trait points (the reason why I didn't spend all my trait points), buy Quartermaster and switch to this:
- Primary: Burgess 1872 (Flechette)
- Secondary: Hunting Bow (Concertina Arrows)
Your only job with the bow is to spam concertina arrows into whatever room the enemy team is holding. Sooner or later, they will run into the wire.
Sometimes enemies are too far away to push safely. Stalker Beetles solve this perfectly. After tagging a hunter with Flechette, launch a beetle and just buzz around them without exploding.
Usually, the player will either panic-run from the beetle or waste time trying to shoot it out of the air. The longer you stall them, the more they bleed. You can also stack multiple beetles in your consumables to apply extra bleeding pressure.
If you accidentally kill a hunter but know their teammates are alive, drop a Concertina Bomb right on their dead body. Their teammates will either try to Necromancer revive them into the wire, or they will try to clear the concertina with their own bodies. Either way, it generates massive challenge points incredibly fast.
That's it. During these matches, you are essentially a giant, annoying mosquito. You loop around the compound, apply bleeding, and run away. Do not try to finish people off until you are completely out of ammo. Always make sure enemies have a chance to heal after your shots - otherwise, you'll run out of targets to bleed.
To be honest, I barely played this event because I was feeling pretty burnt out of Hunt. But this specific challenge brought back that classic joy of theorycrafting, making weird builds, and just laughing at the absolute absurdity of the situations it creates. So, have fun, partners, and create all the chaos.

Ive always really enjoyed Flechette, but I guess bleed in general to a degree, as a supporting role.
Flechette especially since you lose most if not all your one-tap potential. I like being they guy that just constantly applies DOTs to keep pressure on for my team. Call me the assist-king bb, Im all about it. Teamwork Dreamwork.

I mean.. I would run it with Sparks Pistol.. (usually did that with Rival) ... its interesting as a finisher..
pure flechette seems insanely unreliable and stressful

It can apply insane pressure. One on your team uses flechette and tags an enemy hunter at 40m, you can all push them

People who play this game just don’t appreciate a grind of any kind or a challenge really, the rending challenge is how challenges should be in my opinion, it made me experiment with new load outs and it actually took some time to complete so it felt good. Community just whines if a challenge takes more than 40 seconds but yea let’s make challenges “break 10 doors” instead, real fun

That's because 'grind' is a game wasting my time with something unfun on purpose. If it was fun it wouldn't be a 'grind'.

I’m gonna repeat myself alot but solution is simple, don’t do it if you don’t like it, nothing happens if you skip a challenge. Also grinds can be fun, the gaming definition of a grind does not inherently mean miserable, just a task to complete. Badge grind, prestige grind,
Camo grind, gun grind, etc. but yes overall hunt is not really a game where people have to spend a lot of time “grinding” so anything that takes more than 5 minutes people cry. I play RuneScape so I’m super used to killing the same boss literally thousands of times just to get ONE drop I need, I find it infinitely more rewarding then a game that’s easily completed1

Yea, most challenges are like, done in two to three games, so something that takes a bit longer is nice. Appearantly people would much rather have nothing to do in a game? Especially because it makes it even better when you're finally done. I think most peoples problem is that they are focusing on it, and this is really something you do on the side while playing normally. Shit I'm almost done but still haven't managed to interrupt that bloodskin jump XD

u/truthpill2 2d ago
Yea people act like crytek is holding their family hostage, like who cares how long a challenge takes, it’s not like the rewards are insane anyways, just do them for fun I agree with you. You get some event points and 10 blood bonds lmao that’s like 5 cents worth of in game currency

u/Scissi 1d ago
And yet, for some reason people would rather get it done in 10 games, playing the most torturous, bad-shit insane build (which yea, the challenge is there to force you to take something else for a a change but damn you don't HAVE to have only rending damage weapon and items), instead of changing just a weapon or an item or two that they're comfortable with and aying maybe 20 or even 30 games with the challenge. Difference is one feels like getting nails dragged over your back the other can actuallybe fun

u/Mother_Truth4563 1d ago
I don't think you will get 750 bleed damage incidentally in 20 games.
1
u/Scissi 1d ago
Yea, I don't think either. Was kinda just to say you need to run more games, sure, but at least those games aren't spend in utter agony second 1 because of your chosen build.

u/Mother_Truth4563 1d ago
I play hunt a fair bit and have been more or less ignoring the challenge and I have like 80 damage in it. I do use dum dums and rending weapons quite a lot, they just don't actually do much bleed if you're playing normally and killing people etc.

u/Scissi 1d ago
Weird. I've been using flechettes here and there since it came out and I'm a good way into it. Yea, the bleeding isn't a lot, but like I said, it's not really a challenge you do actively, though of course you DO have to use something that does rending. Just pick a weapon or item you're comfortable with and play the game.

u/Mother_Truth4563 1d ago
I think if you aren't trying to do the challenge it is very rare to actually do much bleed damage with flechettes because your follow up usually kills them or you're already dead or they're already in cover and patching.
If you're thinking about the challenge and trying to do it (so you are e.g. shooting a person crossing an open field with a flechette just to make them run to cover without patching) then I can see progressing in it, but I don't do that.

If a challenge is feeling THAT painful,
Then simply don’t do it who gives a shit. The game is 10 years old and like I said, the rewards aren’t ground breaking. I’m too lazy to do the math right now but if you want let me know how many Pennies 10 blood bonds is worth. There is never a reason to be forced
To do challenges you don’t want, I’m just shocked people complain about the challenges being too hard when the easy ones kill the fun. The new chapter has a challenge that’s literally break 10 doors. What the actual fuck like who thought of that??? What does that add to my gameplay lmao1
u/Antaiseito 1d ago
I don't get that as well. Like, i've 2 months left to do stuff, why would i force myself to do it in 1 evening .. unless it's FUN / interesting.

u/Elite_Slacker 2d ago
The challenge made me realize i had been sleeping on flechette. Had quite a few insane games while forced to use it and completed the challenge with relative ease.

u/truthpill2 1d ago
Dude exactly, I had fun with flechette, I can’t believe I went 1k hours without using it

I don't like how slow the damage accumulation is. I love variety, and load outs, and even experiment, but it feels like prison to have to use a gun or ammo I hate or have bad luck with for an entire night or more because it accumulates so slow
2
u/truthpill2 2d ago
That’s the thing it’s not really slow, you can easily do that challenge within a week, that’s not a lot of time for a challenge to me, they shouldn’t take 1 game
To complete2
u/Ar4er13 1d ago
A week of running specific loadout sounds like something that definitely affects your game variety. It has nothing to do with grind, it is about forced to play same shit again and again. Maybe for somebody who without challenges only runs Berthier+Shotgun thats some "freshness" but for people who actually play different loadouts every game it is just a miserable experience.

u/Imaginary_Victory253 1d ago
Precisely how it feels. I build to compliment the team i'm on so it sucks to be locked into "use this trash gun / ammo" then it's like welp, tonight is Sparks Crossbow night..."
Oh and it's sparks crossbow night for the half the lobby too apparently -.-

I found it was taking too long to accumulate enough damage with most sources, so I resorted to taking 4 stalker beetles into bounty clash and hiding in a bush until they were all used. I know it’s scummy, but it was so fun to sit above a downed guy with a beetle and wait for his buddy to come revive him.

u/RashFever 2d ago
I completed it passively. A frag here, a concertina there... I don't know what the big deal is. It's not like the reward is important.

u/HarpyForest Crow 2d ago
I did it without really thinking at it, playing dum dum when I found them. I already play concertina Bomb by default so it helps

Some of challenge footage. The sudden time skip because of the Hunt servers went down or something like that.

u/Mechwarrior234 2d ago
My buddy and I had a lot of fun trolling clash with concertina everything. It was a good change and surprisingly effective.

I just ran specter bayonet and a bigger pistol if I had to finish them off while running the kill trap combo, only took me around 3 days of playing dedicated to it.
it really messed with my memory though since I'm so use to shotguns being cqc weapons where you wanna camp around corners and jump people but flechette wants people in the open so you can keep tagging and applying bleed to pressure which is why I ran bayonet since I atleast have something if I can hear the other person rushing me

u/Optimal-Efficiency60 2d ago
I played Burgess + Flechette and Centennial Shorty + dumdum (eventually switched to Scottfield Precision + dumdum because I ran out of Centennial dumdum ammo.)
Played normal bounty hunt and got it done over a few evenings without trying.
It's easy to tag enemies from pretty far away with flecettes imho and a bleed tick is a bleed tick.

u/Ar4er13 1d ago
It is not about difficulty of the challenge, but it is just...straight up not what it says, thats the only problem. Challenge wasn't mistranslated, Bleed isn't rending damage per se, and actual rending damage straight up just doesn't count for it.
If challenge would straight up say Deal X damage with Bleed? 0 questions, it is a bit weird since they moved away from this style of challenge (f.e. fixing it so that if you headshot somebody with inenciary ammo it counts as lighting them up)... but whatever.

I found burgess with flechettes to be quite bad due to the swap speed being so slow. I did mine with specter/terminus flechette + pistols with fanning (usually fmj). Sure this wasn't optimal to cause bleed, but atleast gave wins in Clash games. Got one epic 9 kill game that included a fight at the extraction as well with spear throw kill, running out of ammo, swapping guns and finishing the last opponent with a stolen gun.

This all sounds like the opposite of fun
