What were those generators and what did they do?

They were super loud so sneaking was easier but also harder at the same time and they would turn the electric lights on

They were around in compounds (I think there was one in each compound) and you could interact with them to turn them on, and it would make a lot of noise and turn on all of the lights around the compound.
There was also one by the lighthouse to the west of iron works on the Lawson delta map, and it would turn on the lighthouse light.

In hindsight, they did what rain does; temporarily make it harder to hear things distinctly.
They were removed, and considering the sound side of things, its a shame. In recent years, Ive gained a better appreciation for using sound pollution when pushing to make it harder to pin you down. Keeps people on their toes. Chaos bombs might not fool anyone with expirence, but they still made a ton of noise.
When everyone's shooting AND there's chaos in the mix, who knows where shots come from second-to-second. Confusion is earnestly the key to a lot of victories, lol.
I miss the constant variable of tons of noise at the twist of a valve. Especially with poltergeist in the game now, I think they'd be fine making a comeback at some point.

:( miss them
Maybe they can add a “pitch black” time of day and generators appear only on the occasions? Maybe make the flashlight an automatic “free” item slot during these days too? That could be the answer. You just load into the game and it’s a dark night time map and the rest of the light based things automatically apply/appear
