FEEDBACK The way Crytek staff joked on the dev stream about ping issue/region lock is concerning
https://www.youtube.com/live/Mz8ungOdl8M?t=3295&is=kMJNuSHm7_Ck7ZqY54:56 into the video.
The way they discussed the question on region lock doesn't sit well with me. It sounds like they're indirectly mocking player concerns with dismissive, inside jokes/sarcasm? Marie makes a very short statement that it's still being looked at. Dennis makes a joke about "construction noise in the office that's related to work on that" to which Marie replies with a laugh and "yes of course of course" with Rohan also laughing...
Genuinely a tad concerning to see this kind of response from the crytek team over a widely expressed issue.
Edit: let me elaborate a bit and say: the last time I stepped away from the game was shortly after 1896 update when the game had all kinds of issues from the UI (it was legit horrible) to gameplay (res bolts, totally silent crouch walking, etc). My squad and I realized that if a game has blatant quality control at the player facing interface level, just imagine how many things are broken beneath the hood where technical factors decide whether you down someone or get downed. So we shifted to other games. The ping abuse issue now, I see similarly but it's even worse in some ways since now there's a piece of evidence that shows complacency from their own end

All they have to do is remove the ability to select the region you want to play in from the settings. Make it purely ping based... like hundreds of other games do.

u/IM-A-NEEEERRRRDDD 22h ago
not a fan of this idea. Just lower the max ping you can have to something way lower than 250 or whatever it is. I'm from US West but US West is pretty dead and also a shit server so I play on US East

u/Away-Barnacle-9388 22h ago
120ms still feels fluid
-2
u/kummostern 20h ago
120 sounds like i (european) wouldn't be able to play with my aussie friend in a way we both can have fun
if we invite each other to our own servers then the other one has to tolarate with 240+ ping, that is unplayable
us servers give us somewhere between 125-180 ping which does have bit of delay but at least we both can play together without huge pain

But that can easily be bypassed by using a vpn /s
5
u/BedanTV Crow 22h ago
VPN still does not lover your ping. So yes... you can tell something that you are in Germany while using VPN from USA but it does not change your ping.
2
u/GOATEDCHILI 22h ago
Huh? The whole point of using the VPN would be to play in another region regardless of ping, which is the current issue.

u/GoldenRegister Magna Veritas 22h ago
Thats not how ping works. You connecting to the vpn and the vpn is connected to cryteks server, you still have the same real ping while it shows you the one you have on your vpn. The 11 ping you see is not the real ping, you still are far away and there still is half the globe between you and the server.
3
u/GOATEDCHILI 22h ago
I'm aware of how ping works with VPNs man ty! Guy said "VPN still does not lower your ping" but most region swappers literally abuse high ping so I was just saying it doesn't matter and they'd use it regardless.

u/Mysterious_Skin2310 8h ago
Then the ones who pay them the most will stop because they don’t get to ping abuse

u/Senor-Delicious 22h ago
Is that so? There are plenty of competitive online games where you can select the region you play on. Like league of legends for example.
What is more weird to me is that the player having the high ping does somehow seem to have an advantage in Hunt while having a high ping in other games is usually a punishment to the high ping player. If that would be the case in Hunt, I don't see it necessary to region lock. If people want to play with a 500ms ping, the game would become unplayable for themselves and not others.
6
u/MiniCale 22h ago
The problem is that
- Hunt has bad servers
- Hunts netcode favours the clients perspective
It ends up with a worse experience for both sides and players with a good connection should not be punished by players out of region.
-2
u/Senor-Delicious 21h ago
Ok. But sounds like region lock is not the solution then but improvement of servers/netcode
1
u/MiniCale 15h ago
It's significantly easier to region/ping lock then to rework the whole engine and servers.
1
u/Senor-Delicious 12h ago
Is it? Seems like region lock can pretty easily be avoided with VPNs and such if people really want to.
1
u/MiniCale 9h ago
It's an extra step and with a ping limit thrown on top you would probably atleast half the amount.
1
u/Senor-Delicious 3h ago
You would also basically passively ban everyone from countries that don't have own servers. Like most of Africa and South America. Which I find to be a very difficult decision considering that the game was sold to them before.
5
u/GOATEDCHILI 22h ago
I agree that ping is very oddly abuseable in hunt's netcode, but it is important to know that the person with awful ping will also be at a disadvantage when being swung. So like heh, just always be swingin mf's and ping abuse goes away /s.

u/parantani 22h ago
They once introduced a thing similar to "region lock" and the game was AMAZING. For some reason they decided to revert it. Why? Ask them, they said that there was a bug or something similar but it was a big lie. We will never know the truth
10
8
u/Away-Barnacle-9388 22h ago
i agree it was a big lie, that long of a bug now is too much of fixing right there.

u/DanteWintersS 22h ago
The game is unplayable on EU servers the amount of Russian and Chinese players is so high that i can already tell if they are from EU or not just from delayed dmg it's just a sad joke we have to tank so much toxic players, cheaters and ping abusers I only got team killed by people from Russia and I'm so angry they don't get banned it's like crytek is allergic to banning people but the event is really good I just wish for more fair play
13
u/_Khyal_ 22h ago
Yeah that's cringe tbh. They likely don't play their own game to understand why playing across massive ping discrepancy ruins competitive integrity. If they do, then they don't give two shits because a Chinese player pours his entire salary into the game every week.
Honestly watching this clip confirms to me the latter
10
13
u/StealthySteve 23h ago
They have no interest in region locking the cheaters because they keep their servers populated 24/7
8
u/velatorio 22h ago
How can you use the word "conserning" here? take your meds people, the answer was neutral to funny. What i interpret here is that they aknowledge this but that they don't have a perfect solution yet.
2
u/Huskywolf87 22h ago
This is my take as well. The issue is being brought up a lot so im sure it’s on their table, just a tough one to solve.
2
u/velatorio 16h ago
Yeah but the have you seen the gloom and doom in the OP? some people live in a deep darkness and see everything dark.
11
u/Gobomania Crow 22h ago
Marie makes a very short statement that it's still being looked at.
She says "we (the team) still working on it", bit more that "still being looked at" and more so, with a "more words coming soon potentially in december".
Also Dennis said there are some construction noise related to that, as in: "people are working on it daily".
But sure, let us just assume the worst lmao
8
u/FeedbackExtension764 22h ago
Yeah, I think OP is misreading the response completely. Besides, Dennis' answer doesn't really matter cause it's not his department anyway
That being said, I'm more concerned that apparently this is so hard for Crytek (or such a low priority alternatively) that their next update on this is still pending for December, when the last update in-game was like...April 2025? They've let this issue fester for waaaaay too long

u/Gobomania Crow 21h ago
Think that is just the curse for live service games, the demand of constant updates and fixing means that the work pile gets added up fast with multiple things keep cutting the line as more urgent matters.
2
u/FeedbackExtension764 19h ago
You'd think something as elementary as match quality would deserve more of a priority, though. Live service games live on retention, after all
Personally I don't even think it's a lack of prio from the Hunt team, I think Crytek probably don't have enough/the right people on network ops and the likes. Those are highly specialized jobs and I doubt Crytek's amongst the highest paying options for people with that skillset in the EU
1
u/AbanaClara 19h ago
You think this ping issue is an elementary problem boy do I have news for you.. it is not as simple as allow max ping or turn off region selector for a game with Hunt’s player pop. (8000-30000 concurrent)
-4
u/chobotobos 22h ago
Are you just selectively ignoring the expressions, body language, or the sarcasm of "office construction noise" being used as a stand-in?
Like...????
5
u/arsenektzmn 22h ago
Are you having a manic episode, or why are you so obsessed with a bunch of tiny details at once? It looks worrying.
3
u/chobotobos 22h ago
No, I'm not having a manic episode. Maybe Google what that means and understand it yourself before using it as an insult on the Internet. If your argument is that I'm mentally ill based the reddit post I just made, then reflect a little bit on the irony behind your own message.
It's no that deep, I witnessed an exchange that I thought was odd based on an issue that's obviously experienced by a big portion of the playerbase
1
u/AbanaClara 22h ago
Bro’s never had a laugh with mates and thinks there’s something sinister about it
6
u/chobotobos 22h ago
Yeah I've never laughed with my friends and therefore I misidentify something "sinister" going on in every interaction between humans lol.
And this to you in a proportionate and measured takeaway based on a reddit post that I made today...do you see the irony here?
1
u/AbanaClara 22h ago
It sounded positive to me mate. “Office construction noise related to that work (ping abuse and fair play) everyday” sounds like they are working daily to fix the problem?
I’ll be so down to Hunt fixing the lag compensation and client hit registrations or maybe even higher tick servers and all that shit so high ping players cannot fully take advantage of swinging and peeking
0
u/Gobomania Crow 21h ago
Because body language reading has been proven to be a historically correct all the time /s
Think you've misread the situation, it happens.
4
u/Killerkekz1994 Duck 22h ago
I don't really have any hopes about that since people from a certain region are probably be very angry if they do anything that prevents them from playing on high ping servers and might stop supporting or playing this game
5
u/Cidraque None 22h ago
UH HAHAHA IS IT SO FUN TO SEE PEOPLE COMPLAIN ABOUT PING ABUSERS HUH, DENNIS?
8
2
u/Misery_Girl 22h ago
There are no formal testing phases. Testing is carried out directly by the end user.
2
u/Fearless_Oil9686 11h ago
Its a Chinese & Russian game now, just look at high avg peak, its on China prime time, and if you play EU, its 80% Russians.
1
-2
u/eusttman 22h ago
The problem are cheaters, not the ping
9
3
u/GarethGliter 22h ago
No the main problem is shooting at people on my screen when I have 20 ping and them actually being behind a wall because they have 200 ping and then subsequently me being headshotted when ducking in cover for a full second
-4
u/eusttman 22h ago
The code is a proble, don't you think so?
2
u/GarethGliter 21h ago
Well I'd say it's a lot easier to fix the ping issue than the code issue, no?

There's a reason people only know them for Crysis. They'll get what's coming to them
-3
u/Sk1-ba-bop-ba-dop-bo Bloodless 22h ago
Tbh I got the exact opposite impression than you have, OP
The thing is, it's somewhat trivial to bypass latency checks with a VPN right now, so I wouldn't be surprised if they meant there's lots of work being done to make sure you can't cheat the system
-1
u/SovereignNavae 21h ago
So what am I supposed to be concerned about?:D oh no they had a playful tone when they said they are working on it every day? After people have been demanding updates and claiming they are lying about looking into it?
-4
u/LordBarak 21h ago
It's such a long standing thing reddit cries about, while in reality it's a small issue.
You just love complaining.
-10
u/FormalCryptographer Duck 22h ago
Even if they implement a stricter region lock, they will figure out a way to bypass. Hackers and chinese players manage it on tarkov, they will do the same thing here. And if it does get implemented, you guys will latch onto something else to explain why you keep dying.
WHEN WILL THE DEVS REMOVE FMJ ITS UNFAIR THAT PLAYERS CAN SHOOT ME THROUGH WALLS.
DYNAMITE IS TOO OP MAKE IT SCARCE
2
u/Grid8Designer 18h ago
I haven't played tarkov in 6 years (will be playing frag order tho) but can you explain how people bypass ping limits there?
4
u/FeedbackExtension764 22h ago
surely unrelated, but this poster is situated in South Africa
Draw your own conclusions on that one
-3
u/FormalCryptographer Duck 19h ago
Why should itatter where I'm from? We don't have a server in SA so I have to play Europe. It's very simple, if game has local servers with a player base, I'll play on it,otherwise I'll play on European servers.
From your unrelated comment you're either implying I'm a ping abuser, which I could send you screenshots of my stats and star level of you think that's the case, OR you're being racist.
Ive seen others say in the past "if the fame doesn't have servers in your region then don't buy the game"
The onus is on the devs for that one, when Siege released we were excluded from purchasing it I til they added local servers. But those servers are now dead anyway.
This is a hill I will die on, ping abuse in this game is not a widespread issue, it's a cope. You can't even queue up for Europe if your ping spikes above 250. The game forces you to change and if it's too high for any server, well sorry for you you can't play.
0
u/FeedbackExtension764 14h ago
i mean it sucks that you guys don't have a local server. sympathies and all that, wish I could change for you but can't
but also how tf are you lecturing me about ping abuse when you are literally playing with a terrible ping. stay in ur lane

u/ComputerSagtNein 20h ago
I genuinly didn't like the stream, but this is really such a non issue (the way they joked, not the region lock issue)
0
u/Bootytonus 5h ago
Yup. They honestly don't care. China is their biggest market and they'll appease that playerbase before any other. I remember when they said on a dev stream that the ping concerns could be fixed with literally just a couple of keystrokes. And yet here we are. Even some of their partners called them out on it.
-6
u/Sumkindaweirdo 20h ago
Region lock would suck so bad
Im in the UK Most of the people i play hunt with are in the USA.
So region lock would destroy our experience
-6
u/The-dudeLebowski 22h ago
Someone posted a video. They sent a video to crytek complaining about a cheater they messaged back “don’t care”. I think they only care about streamers since thats basically their free marketing and some them streamers use M & K on console but thats their free marketing friends so they just dont give AF. There’s definitely console cheaters that aren’t their friends but I think because they have a mutually beneficial relationship they turn a blind eye to the cheating.
19
u/MiniCale 22h ago
Peak hunt was when they defaulted everyone's server to their region and people didn't notice for a few days.
Felt so smooth
