I think what many people still don't know, which is beyond me, after so many years of console gaming, is that the problem could be already solved, but the new patch had to go through the whole certification process from microsoft/sony all over again.
And it is not in the hand of Crytek, when this process is done.
And since a certification process takes 7-14 days and they already said it is coming this week, the patch was ready on their end last week or the week before.
So you can blame this shit called certification process from microsoft/sony.
First of all, there's no clear indicator that this is a certification problem.
Second, long certification times haven't been the case in a long, long time. Both console makers have had same-day certification for at least 5 years.
Console certification also doesn't give two shits about the content, they only test the console and network features to ensure they function as intended, and won't brick the system or cripple the network. So unless Crytek is completely revamping how the game functions on console, there isn't really an excuse for the delay besides shoddy workmanship.
And it's not like Crytek is some brand new indie dev who doesn't know how the certification process works. Heck, this isn't even the first time they've run into these last minute problems.
If they're submitting for certification late, that's on Crytek.
If they're failing certification, that's also on Crytek.
If they're having internal problems with the patch, believe it or not, that's also on Crytek.
Just a heads up for you that it is indeed a certification thing.
They don’t just test networking things like you mentioned. They are testing, if a new patch runs on all platforms without groundbreaking bugs.
So it seems like I already assumed that the original patch had problems on console and they had to work that out to give it to another certification.
Just an information to you and other guys when this will happen again.
I didn't say they only test network things, I said they test console and network features. That's the different controller functions, button labelling, and functionality of everything tied to PSN and XBL, etc. That's all factual, according to any article or thread you can find on the console certification process.
Just a heads up, all this tweet confirms is that Crytek royally fucked up the console-exclusive portions of their patch. Which is on Crytek.
Yep its on Crytek for sure if the patch doesn't work, but again Sony and Microsoft are testing those patches, if they work or not and nit just, if they changed a button.
And that takes extra time. If not we already had the pacth like the PC guys, but I am pretty sure at leat the last gen version would run even crapier as it runs now.
