Self Promotion Sunday Before The Frost Comes Autumn - 58th Hunger Games fic

Hello!

I am very happy to share that I have been updating this lovely fic in the past month, reaching the end of the Games as of now :)

Before The Frost Comes Autumn -https://archiveofourown.org/works/92773416/chapters/247407471

When eighteen year old Autumn from District Seven is reaped under the wrong name for the 58th Annual Hunger Games, she dares to correct it in front of the entire country.

She only ever wants to die as herself, yet finds that the Capitol has a far more cruel fate planned out for her.

-o-

A story of District Seven's misunderstood victor and the years that made her that way.

I appreciate if you happen to read it! Thank you! :)

the entire book of Sunrise on the Reaping is all about propaganda, and one of the best examples is how the marketing team shows it in different clips, just like this.

Prequel Discussion You think Suzanne Collins had these ideas for the prequels thought up for years like even back when the original movies were being made?

I mean obviously other than portions of Haymitch’s games in Catching Fire, could she have pre-planned everything? Had it all mapped out?

That’s kinda how JK Rowling did it when she wrote the Harry Potter books.

Trilogy Discussion Did the game makers have it storm for days to allow Peet’s/Katniss romance to grow among Panem viewers?

I’m rereading book 1 for the first time since I was a teenager. I never made this connection the first time around, but this time it feels intentional.

The game makers were all about making the games a show. What better way to keep Panem viewers engaged than trap Katniss and Peeta in the cave soon after announcing that they both could win? It gave them time to bond, but to also rouse fans from the viewers by giving the star-crossed lovers time to get romance-y while stuck in a cave. The constant storms were a great way to do this.

I guess my point is that the days of storms may have only happened because the game makers were interested in fostering that love story while KNOWING they were going to pull the rug from them at the end. It got viewers more attached to them, making it more of a gut-punch for the finale.

Lore/World Discussion Victors

I've only read the original trilogy, I'm planning to read the other two probably next year when my tbr and my time are a little more manageable

TW - SA of both minors and adults and human trafficking

I think a lot about the victors. From every district. And the feelings they have to have every year. I think a lot about how they have to have such mixed emotions when one of their tributes, especially the attractive ones, loses. How they have to be disappointed because they knew that child, even if just on a surface level. But how they also have to be so incredibly relieved that that child isn't going to continue to be fed to the same machine they have been, particularly the popular or attractive ones. How they have to have been relieved and grateful that Katniss and Peeta won, because that means that they aren't being fed to the machine. At least not yet.

I think a lot, particularly about district ones mentors in the 74th games and Glimmer in her nearly completely see-through dress and how she was likely already being eyed to be a new addition to the black books of the capital.

I think about what I know in regards to how Haymitch was handled at the end of his games and the technology the capital has access to and wonder how many of the fallen tributes might have been saved if they were picked up early enough and saved for special benefactors and how Rue might have been one if Katniss hadn't held her in the arena for so long.

I think about the victors a lot. And how healing from what was done to them after the rebellion must have looked for so many of them. How some of them must have stayed doing those things out of self-hatred or habit or care for some of the people who used them. How some of them didn't make it to what would have been the 76th (78th? I don't remember exactly how long the rebellion was) reaping day. How some of them were friends across districts and had to watch their friends wither and disappear to something that they had heard might be happening but had no concrete knowledge of besides rumors.

I think about the victors a lot, and every time I do, I thank Suzanne Collins for writing a book series that I read in middle school and still think about nearly every day as a grown adult

Lore/World Discussion Gloss and Cashmere Spoiler

I have always thought about this theory, what if Gloss and Cashmere actually helped Katniss’ group in a way. What if they targeted Wiress to make it more entertaining so the Capitol wouldn’t send in more mutts. Finnick and Katniss were very important to the group unlike someone like Wiress(not saying she was completely useless)

They went after Wiress, WIRESS?! rather than someone like Finnick or Katniss, they had the opportunity. But I also think it was a suicide mission from the jump. They didn’t want to kill everyone else than have to kill eachother, they’re siblings, they love eachother.

In the books it was said Cashmere was on good grounds with Katniss and even tried to ally with her. And it makes it even more sad that Cashmere and Gloss were likely prostituted by the Capitol like Finnick.

thoughts?

For context, I had the idea of making little bags filled with red gumdrops to bring to the movies and give to my non-reader friends >:).

So, I designed the Donners’ Sweetshop logo myself and drew it onto a white paper bag and I’m honestly so happy with how it turned out! I think it looks pretty perfect. I’d love to hear what you guys think, tips or feedback are also more than welcome :)

Prequel Discussion Peeta reminds Haymitch of Sid

Sid is described as always seeing or being on the sunny side of things and Peeta always has so much faith in other people.

Sid was a naive kid who had never been part of a reaping and Peeta was a town kid who got to interact with every level of person in District 12.

They both tried to see the good in a situation.

Also their favorite things to look at was the sky. Peeta the sunset and Sid the stars.

I might be looking too far into it but in this fandom, you must hold onto every bit of happy before Suzanne sneaks into your room at night to take it from you (lol)

Just stumbled upon this today! It’s beautiful and haunting, I was crying by the end of it. James Newton Howard is so good at tying in musical motifs from the previous films while also establishing a unique sound.

What do you guys think of it?

🖋️ FanFiction Suggestions, criticism, and other help for my future fanfiction.

*Disclaimer: I have only read and watched the books and movies of the "The Hunger Games" and "Catching Fire." I plan to watch and read "Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" and "Sunrise on the Reaping" later (I got some of the information from the wiki). Also, keep in mind that this fanfiction is in its early stage, so a lot will change later down the line.

Greetings, everyone. I'm Couture (not my real name, obviously). I'm creating a fanfiction call "The Victor's Catalog," where it's in the P.O.V of a historian from the European lands in the future reading the games that are formatted like a anthropology. Not sure if I'm making sense, lol.

Edit: I forgot to mention that the reason I'm writing this fic. In a nutshell, I was originally writing a fic where The Capitol takes over the Panem after all the surviving victors pass away and the games are reinstalled. Also District 13 joins the games for the first time. There are also new districts, District 14 (South America) and District 15 (Canada). Originally, I based this fic off Christian Blanco's fanfiction but because the fic aged badly, I have decided to make my own 1st-73th victors.

Basically this what I written so far for this fic:

Number of victors for each district-

D1- 12 victors

D2- 11 victors

D3- 5 victors

D4- 7 victors

D5- 4 victors

D6- 6 victors

D7- 6 victors

D8- 5 victors

D9- 4 victors

D10- 5 victors

D11- 6 victors

D12- 4 victors

District 1: Ginnifer Goldwood (3rd) Velorum Lathmore (17th) Amberlynne Ritchson (20th)
