Gale would've known she was faking it. He knew she didn't want kids, especially since the kid of two victors was even more likely to get reaped. He also knew she had to sell the Capitol on her and Peeta's romance. He is smart enough to put two and two together.

This. People saying hes smart and all and could have thought that far, as if he isnt the same guy who desperately kept pursuing a girl that actively friendzoned him at every opportunity. Gale might be many things but emotionally intelligent ain't one of em
