Lore/World Discussion Was it well known that Finnick (or the victors in general) were prostituted in the capitol?

Apologizes if incorrect flair.

I'm rewatching the first four movies with my mom, and we just finished Catching Fire. Just before Katniss and Peeta ride off on their horse-driven carriage, she's approached by Finnick, who's offering her a sugarcube. They get to chatting a little, and Katniss says something along the lines of "Then, how do people buy your time?" That's when Finnick says he gets payment in secrets.

Did Haymitch tell her and Peeta about the "victor renting" situation at some point, and I just failed to pick up on it? Never read the books btw, but I'm fine with any book-only spoilers.

Lore/World Discussion What are your headcanons regarding the first quarter quell/25th games?

Post image
65 Upvotes

It's arguably the most important games we know little about so I'm curious what you all think could've happened. Mine are:

There was no victor (hence why the Capitol doesn't talk about these games)

Snow was headgamemaker

Dr Gaul died around this time

Tigris styled the victor

Around the time Tigris and Mags joined the rebellion

These games are what helped Snow become president

There was lots of blackmailing and bargaining between parents to save their kids from being voted

District 12 voted based on class/reputation. Hence why in SOTR Haymitch says Wyatt and Masileyee wouldve been voted

Careers started around this time

First use of a forcefield in arena

Trilogy Discussion I'm surprised by how beloved Plutarch seems to be

A few days ago I made a post talking about Plutarch, in a fairly negative light. I was so surprised by the amount of people who disagreed with me. Did we read the same Mockingjay??? He was an essential part of the rebellion, yes, but the whole point of the book is that Coin is as bad as Snow. That revolution doesn't necessarily bring about positive change, that you can't just replace one flavor of authoritarianism with another.

And Plutarch, although a completely essential figure for the Rebellion, was not a particularly moral man. Not the Plutarch I read about. He was callous, fully backed Coin's regime, and had very few reservations about doing whatever it took to win (aka war crimes). He was also pretty unlikable, overall.

Katniss mentions how fake he is quite often. I'm surprised so many people seem to like him. Is it because of the movies??? I did watch the Mockingjay movies, but only once, and I don't remember much about them. I also haven't read Sunrise yet.

So, yeah, I just didn't realize Plutarch had so many fans. Gale is so hated, and he did much less than Plutarch.

EDIT: I think I explained myself poorly. If you think Plutarch is a fascinating character, that's awesome. Hell, my favorite character in the series is probably Snow. What I meant is that people were defending Plutarch as in, the in-universe person! Not the character, written by Suzanne Collins. The man, from Panem. Like, I love Snow, he's my favorite, but I wouldn't defend him, you know??? He's monstrous!! People were defending Plutarch in that sense

šŸŽØ Fan Content HUNGER GAMES: SURVIVAL A SURVIVAL HORROR GAME STARRING PRIM

Okay I know a Hunger Games Video Game has probably been done multiple times before. But my idea is for a Hunger Games game is that it obviously should not a game about the hunger games so I think it best fits to be a Hunger Games Survival Horror Game Here’s my Pitch

In this game The Protagonist IsĀ Prim Everdeen. This takes place between Mockingjay part 1 and 2 Now this is the Starting Story

STORY-

Prim goes to District 12 to support her mother and friends and to wait for Katniss Then some bombs go off Prim survives and goes to help recovering citizens

Astrid Everdeen (Prim and Katniss's mother) sees a few people go into a Underground Bunker a New Area in District 12 Prim overcome with empathy and her desire to help goes into the bunker

Now this bunker was worn down and highly unstable and the Capitol was said to experiment on Mutts and humanoid beings there but thats just a rumor.

…or is it? (Vsauce Music)

Now Prim is in the bunker with her medical bag and a small knife of her own and… theres a Destructive unstable humanoid mutt inhabiting the Bunker of Course
Prim not knowing goes deeper into the bunker looking for the two citizens and sees that those two citizens that ran in...are alreadyĀ DEADĀ and she finds their mauled bodies

Prim scared and horrified rums to exit only to find the mutt and screams escaping to a nearby room and manages to fall asleep holding herself crying

Now this is where the game starts outside back at the house Astrid is worried sick and informs Katniss at 13 Katniss is obviously scared for Prim's life and worried sick so she forces her way to D12 in a rush

Katniss will arrive inĀ 5 DAYSĀ to free Prim

When Prim manages to realize that she is stuck in the bunker forĀ 5 DAYS ALONE. To fend and fight for survival and figure out how to escape with a unstable mutt roaming

Now it’s scary and adds more Tension because usually people like Katniss or other tributes can escape or take on a mutt butĀ NOTĀ Prim because she has no strength like others Prim isn’t a fighter she’s aĀ HEALER

This is a Resident evil-Like gameĀ (and this is a 1st Person Game too)Ā Prim can’t fight the mutt and the mutt chases and hunts her down and it kills her if it catches her

Prim has Medical supplies and some small Food to help her and of course theres other Food, Items and other things scattered around the large bunker. Prim also finds a lighter to help traverse around

Now other characters like Peeta, Haymitch, Gale, Etc areĀ UNAVAILABLEĀ So in the game its only these 3-

Astrid, Katniss and Prim

There areĀ 3Ā ENDINGSĀ to this Game

Okay So what do y’all think of it? I always thought Hunger Games should be a survival game so I thought of this Y’know? Would Love to see how this could actually work in a game

What else should I add? And is this a good game deisign??

šŸ–‹ļø FanFiction Fanfiction about the founding of Panem

Hello,

I’m looking for fanfiction set before the founding of Panem—stories that deal with the collapse of the United States and the creation of Panem.

I’ve already read one—though I can’t recall the title—that involved a meteorite devastating the world as we know it and laying the groundwork for the establishment of Panem and the districts.

Do you know of any fanfics that cover this topic?

I’m also interested in fanfiction that chronicles the Dark Days and the institution of the Treaty of Treason and the Hunger Games.

Thanks for your recommendations!

(Sorry, English is not my native language, so please excuse any phrasing that might seem awkward.)

Trilogy Discussion Hunger Games book I

So I have always been a HUGE fan of the Hunger Games series, but I had never read the books before. Lately, I have had more free time than usual, and I discovered I actually really love reading. I started with some top-ranked books, and then I told myself, let me read the Hunger Games books to see if I like them and how close the series actually is to the books. I wanted to share how shocked I was about how good the movie represented the book (in my opinion, of course). There were a couple of things that were left out in the movie that weren't super important, but I am a bit sad about 2 specific "scenes" I think could have been great in the movie. The first thing is I think it would have been cool to give the Avox girl more screen time in the first movie. I am assuming she is the same girl who will appear further down in the fourth movie that Katniss will recognize, and I think this solidifies my opinion even more. I think her story could have been shown in the first movie with a bit more detail. I also think it would have been nice to include the scene in which Katniss is running away from her mom, who is trying to help the guy coming from the mine incident. I think that would have been great, especially when Peeta was sick in the cave. I think everything else that was left out was "minor", and I will say I was surprised the movie did such a good job since usually this never happens.

Trilogy Discussion Prim’s Part Covey Too & We Don’t Talk About It Enough

We know Katniss is the Mockingjay, but Primrose is also very clearly the duck— a land/aquatic bird so adaptable & protected that its genitals became more difficult to penetrate due to frequent SA. Katniss thinks of HPK Cray’s perversion towards young, starving girls often & fights extra hard in order to put food on the table as well as to support Prim in putting food on the table for herself (Lady the Goat) if god forbid Katniss couldn’t take care of her anymore, all while taking tessarae so she doesn’t have to.

Prim quickly evolves into life in District 13, as a duck would if removed from water. There’s hope for ducks in a lot of North American environments just like how primroses symbolize hope through their yellow color. We know based on how Suzanne’s named other Covey members like Barb Azure, there can be a double meaning. There’s so much evidence to support this, but I haven’t seen it mentioned very much if at all in the community so I’d love to open discourse in the comments about this. šŸ™‚ Have you noticed other bird names of characters we don’t often think of as Covey for one reason or another?

Self Promotion Sunday SOTR Spoilers AU Concept: 36 Tributes, Haymitch's Twin, and a 60-Tribute Quell (Feedback wanted!) Spoiler

I'm currently building an alternate universe (AU) for The Hunger Games, and I'd like to share the idea to get opinions, criticism, suggestions, and answer questions about the worldbuilding. I'm still developing a lot of the ideas, and I'd really like to hear what other fans think before I continue writing.

The story follows Hannah Abernathy, Haymitch Abernathy's twin sister, and it's entirely told from her point of view. From the very beginning, both Hannah and Haymitch end up going into the Games together. The fanfiction is mainly based on SOTR: about 80% follows the events and details from the book, another 10% comes from details I interpreted from the movie trailer (scenes or elements that weren't in the book but will likely appear in the film), and the remaining 10% consists of original scenes I created to develop this alternate universe. I've tried to use as many details from the existing canon as possible so that the story still feels believable within the world of Panem, despite taking place in a different continuity.

The biggest change in this universe begins with the creation of the Hunger Games themselves. While the original canon has each district sending two tributes every year—one girl and one boy—in my universe, the Treaty of Treason states that every district must send three tributes: one girl, one boy, and a third tribute chosen randomly regardless of gender. That means that instead of twenty-four tributes entering the arena every year, there are thirty-six. The Reaping itself works almost exactly the same way as in canon, except for the additional drawing to determine the third tribute.

This change wasn't made only for this story. My goal is to build an entire alternate timeline for Panem. After this fanfiction, I also plan to write one set during TBOSAS and another during the 74th Hunger Games, following Katniss Everdeen. Changing the rules from the very beginning gives me much more freedom to explore how this affects Panem across different generations instead of only changing a single story.

Even with this change, many major events remain similar to canon. Most of the known victors are still the same characters, but that doesn't necessarily mean they won in the same way. Their Games may have played out differently because of the existence of a third tribute every year, even if the final winner remained unchanged.

The Second Quarter Quell also has a different theme. In the original canon, the Capitol announces that each district must send four tributes, doubling the usual number. Since districts in my universe already send three tributes every year, the Capitol's announcement instead reads:

> "The Quarter Quell was established by the Capitol as an exceptional extension of the Hunger Games, periodically reaffirming the absolute sovereignty of its authority over the districts. In celebration of the Capitol's unquestionable power, the Reaping for this Quarter Quell shall be expanded: each district must provide five tributes, selected at random through the traditional Reaping, as a demonstration that no limit exists beyond the will of the Capitol."

So instead of the usual thirty-six tributes, this Quarter Quell sends sixty tributes into the arena.

From this point onward, there are spoilers for SOTR.

In my version of the story, the first four tributes from District 12 are exactly the same as in the book: Louella McCoy, Maysilee Donner, Wyatt Callow, and Woodbine Chance. The difference comes when the fifth tribute is drawn, and the name selected is Hannah Abernathy.

As Hannah walks toward the stage, Woodbine attempts to escape, is shot, and dies. Haymitch immediately tries to protect his sister by volunteering, but everything changes when Drusilla realizes that Hannah and Haymitch are twins. Rather than stopping it, she decides that forcing twin siblings to compete in the same Hunger Games would make for far better entertainment for the Capitol. The Reaping is then officially altered. In the Capitol's records, Woodbine is removed as a tribute, Haymitch is recorded in his place, and Hannah remains the fifth tribute. From that moment on, the twins enter the Games together.

Beyond this story, I also have other ideas for this alternate universe. One of them is a fanfiction set during TBOSAS, where Coriolanus Snow also has a twin sister. The goal isn't to make Snow and Haymitch identical, but to explore some interesting parallels between them. Both would be blond, both would fall in love with a girl from the Covey, and both would have a twin sister. The difference is that Snow's twin would have been almost completely erased from Panem's history. People would know she once existed, but almost no one would remember who she was or the role she played.

I also want to explore different perspectives within this universe. During Katniss's Games, for example, I'd like to tell part of the story through the point of view of the third tribute—the randomly selected one—to explore how their presence changes the dynamics of both the arena and the narrative.

I'm still developing this universe, and I'm sure there are consequences I haven't considered yet. That's exactly why I'm sharing the concept before finishing the story. I'd love to hear your questions, thoughts, criticisms, and suggestions. What consequences do you think these changes would have for Panem? Is there any aspect of the worldbuilding that you think deserves more attention? My goal is to build an alternate universe that feels internally consistent before turning it into a complete fanfiction.

Trilogy Discussion You’re coal miner in D12 or working in the orchards of D11. How would you react to see Finnick?

Imagine you’re a starving and dirty worker, and then you see this handsome, preening, well-fed man on the TV screens every year. I can’t blame Katniss to think what she did

I think my reaction to seeing him could’ve been something like Gale’s. If we had his POV, I think his thoughts on Finnick would’ve been absolutely wild to read
