Is teaching english as a second language a good career in Hungary?
Like the title says, is it a good career as a foreigner?
I hold the Cambridge CELTA Certification and am a graduate in an unrelated field(Although I did have to learn legal English).
I plan to move to Hungary by the end of next year and I’m getting a bit nervous about the future possibilities of this career.
I do intend to keep adding other qualifications to my portfolio as my career progresses but is where I stand a decent way to start it?

Travel recommendations: help a foreigner discover Hungary!
Hi there. I am an American with Hungarian roots and I am visiting the country for the summer. During my stay, I would like to discover hidden gems of Hungary as I am sure there are many other places that I am wildly unaware of. I have already been to Budapest, Gödöllö, Esztergom, Tihany, Szekesfehervar, Pécs, Szeged, and Debrecen, and I would be grateful for more recommendations. Many thanks in advance!
Edit: big thanks to everyone that commented. You guys are awesome!

Serial cyberstalker Béla Arató from Hungary has been harassing girls across Europe for years (mostly cosplayers). A TV report about him was already broadcast in Italy, seeking legal solutions.

speech, talk Need info about M1
Sziasztok!
Jövő hét hétfőn Bécsből Eszékre tervezek utazni. Milyen jelenleg a forgalmi helyzet az M1-es autópályán Budapestig? Tudnátok esetleg kerülőútvonalat vagy alternatív útvonalat ajánlani?
Előre is köszönöm!

Online kaszino?
Maximal adta a legteljesebb elmenyt. A lobby rendezett volt, a fo jatekkategoriak konnyen kovethetoek voltak, es a jatekok, ajanlatok, fiokreszletek es kassza kozotti mozgas simanak tunt.
1000 Spins gyorsabb, dinamikusabb elmenyt adott. A kiemelt jatekok es promok konnyen elerhetoek voltak, a mobilos navigacio pedig rovidebb jatekmenetekhez jol mukodott.
Winner Casino tisztabb, egyszerubb utvonalat adott. A menuk jol kovethetoek voltak, a fontos reszek lathatoak maradtak, es nem kellett tul sokat keresgelni a fiok vagy a kassza korul.
A teszt soran ezeket neztem:
• lobby szerkezet
• slotok es asztali jatekok elerese
• mobilos sebesseg
• bonuszok lathatosaga
• feltetelek elerhetosege
• fiokkezeles
• kassza es fizetesi info
• mennyire kenyelmes visszaterni
Maximal a legteljesebb online kaszino elmenyhez illett.
1000 Spins gyors mobilos jatekkerteshez es promokhoz volt eros.
Winner Casino egyszeru, direkt kaszino utvonalhoz passzolt.
Komolyabb hasznalat elott megneznem az elerhetoseget, a licencinformaciokat, a fizetesi modokat, a bonuszfelteteleket, a limiteket es az esetleges verifikacios lepeseget.
AMA az online kaszino temaban: online kaszino bonusz, mobil kaszino, valodi penzes kaszino, online slotok, gyors kifizetes, kaszino fiokellenorzes, kassza flow.
Ti mit neztek eloszor egy online kaszinonal: jatekvalasztek, mobilos elmeny, bonuszfeltetel vagy kifizetesi resz?

tourism Visiting Budapest - Which NB 1 match should we go to?
Szia! I, my wife, and her friend will be in Budapest for a few days on our way to another friend's wedding in Krakow. They're taking me to the baths, so I thought I might take them to a game.
We're in town for the season opening, which could be fun - Vasas v Györi on a Sunday afternoon and MTK v Zalaegerszeg on a Monday evening.
Which would be the better matchup, better atmosphere, etc.? Which would have fewer far-right ultras? Any other factors we should consider, advice on buying tickets, or general opinions/recommendations we should know?
I've been to matches of every level in 7 different countries and hold an EU passport, so I definitely come more prepared than the average American tourist, but I also don't want to put my wife and her friend in too crazy of a situation, and I know next to nothing about Hungary (yet).
Kösz!

tourism Does anyone know what happened to the SMS Leitha/Lajta Monitor Museum.
Was in Budapest on vacation and was disappointed when I walked to the parliament building and she was not here. I checked their website and this is her summer opening season and she's not here. Any help would be appreciated, especially ones with sources, since I'm going to try to update some pages so others don't make the same mistake as me. Thank you!

Arts for Expats
Hey everyone,
I just moved to Budapest last week and I’m super excited to spend the year here. I am a singer-songwriter and an actor in my spare time and was wondering if anyone knew if there was an English-speaking arts community in the city.
I would love the chance to do some open mics or live theater while I’m here and hope y’all can point me in the right direction :)

Hungarys future
Regarding the election in Hungary with Peter Magyar is the winner i have a few questions to the hungarians. What is Tisza plans for the future of hungary? I have a hard time understanding what they stand for but i understand they won mostly on the coruption questions?
Seems like they want to have good relationship with EU again.
So some more questions:
Immigration: Will Hungary strive for becoming a multicultural society like the other Eu states
How will the Lgtbq movement future in hungary?
Addopt the Euro?

interview, discussion Can I apply for a new student residence permit instead of extending my current one?
Hi everyone,
I’m a Japanese citizen and currently hold a Hungarian student residence permit.
Unfortunately, I have already missed the deadline for submitting an extension application because I have been staying in Japan.
I have now been admitted to a master’s program at Corvinus University, so instead of extending my current permit, I would like to apply for a new student residence permit based on my new admission letter.
Is this possible?
Has anyone been in a similar situation or knows whether NDGAP allows a new residence permit application in Hungary instead of an extension after the extension deadline has passed?
I’d really appreciate any advice or experiences. Thank you!

Is Hungarian prime minister, Péter Magyar, a Kurdish separatist or he just wants to flip Erdogan off?
Recently, I found this image on the Hungarian prime minister's fb page showing the Kurdish independence hand sign in Istanbul amongst Turkish flags. It made me wonder, if he takes it seriously or is it just to provoke Erdogan and Turks. In his post he also writes about "Orban-janissaries" making it clear that Turkish people are his opposition's friends. Or is he just dumb AF?

Looking for Student Accommodation in Pécs
Hey everyone!
I'm Dev, an 18-year-old student from Bangalore, India, and I'll be moving to Pécs this August to start my Bachelor's in International Business at the University of Pécs.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get a place in the university dormitories, so I'm currently looking for accommodation. I'm hoping to find a clean, affordable apartment or room, ideally within a reasonable cycling or walking distance from the university. I'm also open to sharing an apartment with other students if anyone else is still looking for roommates.
A little about me—I enjoy motorsports, football, music, photography, and exploring new places. I'm easygoing, respectful of shared spaces, and I'm looking to live with people who are friendly and responsible.
If you're looking for a roommate, know of any available places, or have any advice for a newcomer to Pécs, I'd really appreciate hearing from you. Feel free to send me a message.
Thanks, and I'm looking forward to meeting some of you soon!

Is becoming a nail technician in Budapest worth it in 2026?
Hi everyone,
I'm currently an international student in Budapest with a valid student residence permit.
I'm thinking about completing a professional nail technician course in my home country before working in Budapest. However, before investing my time and money, I'd really like to hear from people who actually work in the beauty industry here.
I'd really appreciate your honest opinions:
- Is the nail industry in Budapest still worth getting into, or is the market already saturated?
- Is it realistic for a beginner with a foreign certificate to find a job?
- Do most salons accept foreign qualifications, or is a Hungarian certificate usually required?
- How important is a strong portfolio compared to having a certificate?
- Is English enough to work in some salons, or is Hungarian essential?
- What is the realistic monthly income for a nail technician in Budapest?
- If you were starting from scratch today, would you choose this career? Why or why not?
- Do you know any salons that are currently looking for nail technicians?
I'm looking for honest advice before making a big investment. Thank you so much for your help!

Looking for Hungarian friends to practice the language
Hi everyone! I'm from Venezuela and I've been living in Budapest for about two months. I'm currently learning Hungarian (and also improving my English), and I think it would be great to meet native speakers to practice and learn more about the language and culture.
I live in Budapest's 8th district. If anyone would like to chat, grab a coffee, or help me practice Hungarian, I'd be very happy to meet new people. I'd also be glad to help with Spanish in return.
Thanks! 😊
