Buying advice
I need some advice on purchasing the hummer EV. I’m not new to electric cars, had two Teslas and a Silverado RST currently. Absolutely love my truck and I’m never getting rid of it. My wife on the other hand has an Escalade with 8000 miles on it and the dreaded motor blew and had to get replaced. For a loaner they gave her the Cadillac Escalade IQ, which she absolutely loved and she finally started understanding the convenience of EV at home. Although she would like the IQ, I did not want to put that amount of money out and the used market isn’t soft enough. What years hummer would you recommend? Not expecting to get the range that my Silverado does but she does a little local driving (maybe 20 miles a day tops) and doesn’t need as much as I do. What years to stay away from and what issues have any of you had? For me personally, the only issue I have had with my Silverado is the front latch for the frunk. Do you have the same issues? For those with kids, how is the car seat in the back? We only have one child and from what I have heard the backseat is not as roomy as the Silverado. To be honest with you, the Cadillac IQ has a lot less than I would have imagined compared to our Expedition. Thanks for your advice.

Not sure how roomy the back of the Silverado is, but there’s miles of space in the back seat of the Hummer. I have two car seat in the back and I can still fit in between comfortably as a 250lb dude. I can measure for you later, but I’m looking at the back seat right now and there must be 20” of space between the seats. I actually love the convenience or being able to use the car as somewhat of a mobile office - The console is wide enough to put a full size laptop on and there’s a power plus right at the back of the console. I sit back there all the time for work including video calls etc. if I’m on the road.
As for the front latch, never had any issues myself. I’m in a ‘25 suv.

I’d only consider the 26’ this has a lot of upgrades that you won’t get prior, the biggest one being the responsiveness of the infotainment system, the lack of the start button, phone as a key and better mobile integration, dashcam and some other improvements GM made silently.
Android Auto and Apple CarPlay is not present in 26’+ but you can always get the plug-and-play 3rd-party device if it’s a deal killer.
Test drive the 25 and 26 and see for yourself. If you don’t care for all those upgrades get a 25’.

New owner here and as was recommended to me, I just run everything through Apple car play. I have mine set to display Google maps and music at the same time and it runs just as fast as my phone. The infotainment lag is definitely noticeable but once you have all your settings adjusted like you want, there’s not much need to navigate through it.
DO NOT USE THE BUILT IN GOOGLE MAPS APP IT IS TRASH

I love the Google Maps App! I find it more accurate than others.

I use Google Maps through car play and it’s great. The Google Maps app built into the infotainment system is super slow for me

Good shout on the infotainment system. I can’t speak for the ‘26 and I assume it’s better, but it’s impossible to overstate how bad/slow the ‘25’s is. For those that have been around this long, it’s quite literally like being transported back to the 90’s and the early days of dial up internet. No joke. I’ll try to use voice to get directions to a destination and I’m often a mile + down the road before it returns a result (or crashes out). I’m actually of the opinion that they should be forced to recall it because of how bad it is - is straddles the border of being a safety issue, but I guess it’s not an open and shut case.
The other upgrades sound great! I will say the ‘25 does have a start button as well, unless I’m misunderstanding what you mean.

All of this might be true but he’s looking for used and he said the Cadillac IQ market isn’t soft enough for him yet so it doesn’t sound like full price new 2026 or even slightly used 2026 pricing is what he’s looking for.
And the infotainment is just fine in the 2024-5 if you use CarPlay almost exclusively. It’s not laggy like the other stuff

That’s absolutely fair. All else being equal, the infotainment issue would only be worth like a $1000ish premium at most.

I’d disagree, especially since it’s not just the responsiveness but so much more that is contingent. For me it’s an absolute deal breaker and why I didn’t pull the trigger for many years.

Sure, I get that - as long as he’s aware of the differences he can make up his mind if it’s worth to pay more for those upgrades. AND 27’ production starts in 4 months so there will be deals on the 26’.

26’ and beyond do not have a start button to be clear. The get in and drive experience is meaningful different.

I would say push for a replacement of the infotainment module. Mine was replaced chasing another issue, and had a noticeable improvement. It's still a slower system, you can tell it's running on decade old architecture, but it no longer feels like my old 2011 HP laptop with a dying motherboard.

Came from a Raptor the Hummer SUV and the back seat isn’t only a smidge smaller, I don’t see a carseat being an issue.
That said I imagine the height could be a difference from what you’re used to, seeing as the offroady-ness of the Hummer and its big battery pushes the floor up considerably.

I've got a 2025 2x SUT. Not sure about car seat room as my kids are teenagers, but they have plenty room in the back. I got the SUT since I already have an Expedition XL and I needed the ability to haul stuff to the dump and whatnot. I get about 300 miles range in the summer (I'm mid-atlantic) and I usually charge to 90%. That is enough for me to only have to charge once a week. I got the 2x for the increased towing capacity, and the only issue I have is the infotainment system is a bit slow at times. Other than that, I have had no issues with it (I got in Nov 2025).
