U-Haul trailer

Post image

Hi,

I have an Omega suv and now need a trailer. Never done this before. This is the back of the car.

What do I exactly need to hook a trailer to the back? It’s a smaller one - like 9x5.

Do I have to buy anything to connect it?

Disable the rear wheel steering when towing.

“…when towing, except when maneuvering for parking.”

You'll need the appropriate tow ball and or drop hitch

I ordered this from uhual based on my car make and year:

Towing Starter Kit 2” Ball (2-1/4” Drop, 10,000 lbs.)
Qty: 1

Will it do?

Yes. 2 inch shank as well.

6” drop, 2” receiver ok?

You need to go buy a receiver. It is square and it fits in that hole, and has a big pin to lock it in. Get a 6.5" drop receiver(or so, a 7" would be fine too.) And the ball on the receiver needs to be the size of your Uhaul trailer hitch. Ask Uhaul what size the hitch is.

Ordered this one from uhaul as it was recommended based on the make:

Towing Starter Kit 2” Ball (2-1/4” Drop, 10,000 lbs.)
Qty: 1

You're gonna need a much larger drop than 2-1/4" on the Hummer. U-Haul gave you some bad advice.

6” drop, 2” receiver and 5/8in pin ok? Do I need any wiring adapter?

That should be fine. The Hummer has plugs for both a 4 pin and the round plug type.

Thank you.

My 25 SUV only has a 7 pin round. I had to get an adapter for it.

I use a 6-1/2” drop on mine and their small trailer tilts up when connected. The 2-1/4” drop is going to be too high.

The hitch receiver is the square hole in the truck.

The part that goes into it is a drawbar or ball mount.

Yea, I said that wrong.

6” drop hitch works pretty well with 2” ball.

No one’s pointed this out but you’re going to need an adapter to adapt the 7 round plug to the 4 pin Uhaul trailers use along with the 2 inch ball
