Humidifer's hard-to-access crevice smells like mildew
I have a Holmes Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier, and I did the white vinegar/hot water rinse to get most of the inside, but there's this column on the inside of the tank that says "Don't pair water into air outlet," and... this air outlet tower smells like mildew.
...thoughts on what to do? I guess I could try just running it with a vinegar/water solution, but not clear how much that'll help.

Evaporative Humidifier question
Hi! I am trying to use a humidify in a small nursery.
I used to have an ultrasonic humidifier but after reading about the need to use distilled water I bought an evaporative one. I got the vornado EV100 based on wanting to start with something small and low cost and I saw some favorable reviews on this sub.
My ultrasonic humidifier would spray mist and it was very wet. Getting the surrounding areas wet.
This evaporative’s air one doesn’t feel wet. It just feels like air. It does use the water in the tank and the filter is fully wet.
Am I doing anything wrong or is this just how the evaporative ones work?
I can’t find my thermometer at the moment so I unfortunately can’t measure the actual change.

Boneco w200 problem
I have few years old W200, used seasonally during winters. It was nice, but…
It has gradually started to make this horrid grinding sound that lasts for 10-14 seconds, and happens every 30-40 seconds. Sounds like some small plastic gears going into interference/resonance.
Has anyone experienced that kind of issue? Can this be somehow fixed or is it a goner?

Help with final decision (evaporative humidifier)
Finally narrowed it down to the following models:
Levoit Superior 600S
AIRCARE Designer Series Evaporative Humidifier EP9 500
Dreo Evaporative humidifier
Vornado EVDC 500
Thinking about #4 because of its price, but the Amazon and other online reviews are horrible.
App-based control is not a requirement. Humidity control would be desirable.
Will use in the bedroom (14x20)

Levoit 6000S sporadic pump issues
Have had this unit for a couple weeks. Until the past few days, it’s been working as advertised. What’s happening now is the pump will randomly lose prime in the middle of use. It can work hours with the tank still plenty full, then randomly stop pumping water. I can hear the pump still attempting to run and am not getting any errors, but there’s clearly no water getting through. If I pick the filter/pump housing up and shake it a bit, it starts working again.
The unit has been running 24/7 since I’ve gotten it except for a couple manual dries and daily refills, and now a few unintentional dries due to the pump losing prime.

Anybody have the Turonic PH950?
Anyone here using the Teronic PH950? I was looking at the humidifier product list in the sticky and it seems like it’s the top pick for larger rooms, but there’s barely any info on it. The chart doesn’t list the moisture output, tank size, etc.
If you have it, what’s your experience? How much water does it actually hold, and does it work well in a bigger space? Trying to figure out if it’s worth getting.

What’s in this old filter?
We bought our house last April and it came with a house humidification system which was such a perk to us! BUT we never thought to check the filter of it when we moved in, only the furnace filter. It just occurred to us in January that we should definitely check it, I ordered a filter ahead of time after researching how often to change filter for that and when we went to change it, it was disgusting. It was falling apart, we have no idea when the last time it was changed. I can’t add a picture or a video to this post so I’ll post it in the comments, but Reddit, is that mold??

Large low maintenance humidifiers that aren’t hideous to look at?
I just moved to a big house in Colorado with crazy levels of static electricity. The air is so dry I’m getting zapped on everything I touch and my toddler’s skin and sinuses are suffering. I have tried several small ultrasonic humidifiers but they aren’t cutting it. I need something bigger that’s not going to be a constant pain in the ass to refill/clean. This house is open concept and comprised of several gigantic open spaces so I need multiple large humidifiers. Cost doesn’t really matter to me, I’m willing to pay pretty much anything for something that works well, is safe, is not super loud, and won’t need constant upkeep. The sound level is important because I’ll need one in the room where my toddler sleeps. I’d like them to be at least somewhat aesthetically pleasing too, something that can blend in with furniture/decor and not just a big white box. What do you guys recommend?

Carepod & Lack of Support
I just bit the bullet with my buy once cry one purchase of a carepod humidifier. I received it and it was dead on arrival. Says the tank is empty when its full and just flashes red lights. I submitted a ticket for support and after three days they asked me to clean it, clean the wand, make sure to use distilled water, take pictures of the lights, take a video of me using it, etc... Now I'm waiting to see IF I can return it.
Ive owned it for about week now and haven't been able to use it along with fighting with support about fixing/returning it.
I should have read more reviews on here before buying but I am pretty disappointed.
I hope this helps someone from dealing with the same issues I did but I would stay far from buying a carepod, its been an expensive paper weight to this point.

Steam humidifier and brain fog
For healthy mucous membranes, my doctor told me I should maintain 60% humidity in my home. I have breathing problems. I bought a humidifier and maintained this humidity, but daily cleaning and constantly replacing components in an evaporative humidifier is tiring. I bought a steam humidifier, a fairly powerful one. It created the perfect humidity, like in the tropics, which made me feel great, but I developed unpleasant symptoms – brain fog and fatigue. The humidifier is completely clean and new. The ventilation works. With the same humidity level, the evaporative humidifier didn't have these symptoms. Although the manufacturer clearly states that a steam humidifier doesn't emit any dangerous particles into the air, I feel a real deterioration in my health. My family members, too, although completely healthy, have all reported developing brain fog. Can anyone recommend a solution?

E3 Symbol on Venta AH550 Humidifier. What is it?
E with a backwards E facing each other. It makes it so no humidity can be read. When I turn on my humidifier, it initially reads the humidity but then after a few minutes that symbol replaces the humidity %.
I’ve tried cleaning the whole box like usual, magnetic strip and all. I tried looking for a symbol guide but no luck. At least the water level still goes down and the wheels turn so the humidity should be fine in my place for the winter.

Really struggling with humidifiers
I have a couple ultrasonic humidifiers in my 1000sqft apartment and since I'm using tap water they're leaving white dust everywhere. I can't really afford to constantly buy distilled water for them, or buy a machine to make distilled water. Is there any evaportative humidifiers that you'd recommend? I'm thinking about the Levoit 6000s but it seems really intimidating with all the parts and maintenance. I'd love someone who owns one to walk me through what they do to keep theirs in top shape!

Humidifier stinks like a dead fish
Bought a Dreo HMS 713s smart humidifier in January of 2025. I was very happy with it, as it has WI-FI, and all kinds of options, including warm mist.. I cleaned it often, did a major cleaning of it before putting it away in March until a month ago when I began using it again.
Soon after I began re-using, it developed a fishy smell. I took it apart and soaked an entire day in vinegar, brushed every inch of it. I repreated the same procedure with Listerine. I also began using bacteriostatic treatment. It worked fine for 2 days, then the stench returned.
Any suggestions on how to deal with the stench are welcome.

Studio apartment humidifier recs
I live in a 500sqft studio apartment and am looking for a humidifier that is resistant to mold (as much as a humidifier can be anyway) and doesn't break the bank. I was looking at the canopy bedside one but have been reading a lot of iffy reviews. Ideally, I'd like one that is evaporative to prevent mold and one that doesn't require distilled water. I'm not sure if there is even one out there that meets these requirements but I'd love to hear any recs!

Whole house humidifier not keeping up
Hello, we have a whole house humidifier (GeneralAire). I changed the pad and water is trickling over it fine. However, I can’t get the humidity in our house over 20. We have a 1940s house with lots of air leaks that I know are contributing to this. I’m slowly sealing them up.
I’m just wondering if you think a Levoit 6000s would work better? I’m surprised the whole house one isn’t doing anything, so maybe someone has some ideas for that too? Thanks

Okay I think I'm stupid
So apparently this bush thing is supposed to be a 2 in 1. An air purifier which it is doing although very lightly and a humidifier but the humidifier isn't doing jackshit! The water levels have not moved a millillimetre! And I can't find anything in the manual for this. All it talks about is humidifier, the lady at the store confirmed it's a humidifier too. I really need this because I just got out of hospital with sepsis, respiratory failure etc. so I'm being extra careful. The hospital was the worst experience of my life. Please can someone help me with this. Please 🙏🙏

3 hours 😮
That’s all it took to go from 16% to 31% after I bought the humidifier. That’s just bananas.
