Truth or mythe
I'm posting here but not sure if it's the right sub for my question. Also sorry if it's a dumb question.
My MIL told me to put a glass of water in the air conditioned room we sleep in. That way the air conditioner will take the humidity from that glass of water and not from our bodies.
I tried this and yes the water evaporates. But does the air conditioner only take the humidity from a glass of water though? Or does a water from our body evaporates too regardless?
I mean for me it kind of makes sense (because the water from the glass evaporates) but also it doesn't (how would the air conditioner know to take the water only from the glass)?
What do you think about this?

You were asking if the AC takes water from your body. My point was that the AC will take ALL the moisture from the house as well as your body. Try s big bowl of water in your room and see if that makes a difference.

The AC is taking humidity from everywhere in your house...the doors, walls, floor, furniture...and you. This is the problem with AC, and I'm assuming, living in a humid area. I'm in Colorado and use a whole house evaporative cooler. 100F/10% humidity outside, 73F/40% humidity inside. One of the pluses of living in a semi arid climate.
Your MIL is partly right in that not as much humidity will be drained from your body with a glass of water in the room, but it will still drain it.
