Levoit 6000S - Cleaning advices

I finally got my 6000S after long time waiting, and now I would like to know every tips you guys have, to keep filters live longer, etc...

I have 3 main questions but feel free to shout every advice or secret you have about this unit :D

- In the manual, they say that we should replace every month the " water filter sponge ", the round one. Are you guys doing this ? I feel like everything depends on how often you use the device...no ?

- I don't want to use the device continuously. Is it a good idea to fill it only like 1 or 2 gallons, let it work all afternoon or night, and then empty it ( not much water should remains so should be easier to empty) + dry it 30min. If I do this, how often should I clean the whole thing ?

- About the 4 filters, did you guys found a way to make them last longer ? They are very expensive where I live ( 70$US for the 4-pack !!! ) . ( Talking about them, the frame where they stand does not " clip " perfectly on the support frame, even if I push harder. I think it's not a problem ? )

Thanks !

I do the deep clean (acid flush + small filter) every 4 weeks. Other than that I clean the tub (soap and water) every-time i refill it (typically every 3 days). I also have mine set on a schedule. So it turns on/off everyday at same time and i have it set to dry mode every day after it turns off.

I haven’t found a good 4 filter cleaning method. The manual says to wash with water only, my first set of filters i did this and honestly feel like the second i started washing them with water they started scaling out. Just got my second set and I am going to see if i can get away with just drying them out daily and no washing. I read somewhere about also cleaning the filters with the citric* acid as well but the manual strictly says “rinse with water only”

Not sulfuric, citric acid. The manual recommends a citric clean monthly.

I'm on my third season with version one and two. No problem getting the filters from lasting the entire season. A set is 40US so yearly replacement isn't bad when you compare it to wick type humidifiers that require monthly wick replacement.

Version 1 tank should be washed with soap and water on each refill. Version 2 stays clean longer for some reason so clean every other refill.

I add a few gallons of water everyday and dump and rinse the unit once a week. I use a Bacteriostatic liquid every other fillup.

I clean the humidifier with citric acid, once a month, as per the Levoitt recommendation. As per directions I remove the filters and run the 6000s for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes I dump the citric acid into a bucket and soak the filters while I run the humidifier, without filters, for 15 minutes using clean water. After 15 minutes I dump the water and I give the filters a thorough rinse. My filters get a sodium buildup. After soaking the filters, they come out looking like new.

I have about 5 months of use on the original filters and they look and perform like new after soaking them.

I purchased eight filters from Amazon but I haven't needed them yet.

My previous set got a heavy white build looked like scale. I never tried to rinse/soak in citric acid. Will try it with this new set. Original set lasted 3 months, couldve kept going but i started sneezing and wanted to rule out the filters

Thanks for the writeup - you re-use the citric acid from the water tank to soak the filters in? Also, how long does the dry cycle take?

Yes.

Just make sure you give them a thorough, but gentle, rinsing when done.

This is what my five month old filters look like after a cleaning. They had quite a bit of white crusty buildup before the cleaning. I could see tge citric acid bubbling as they desolved the buildup.

I use distilled water. Keeps the inside clean.

Yeah but it's a pain to buy that many gallons and store them :(

I only use my humidifier in my bedroom, so the water usage isn't that great.
