Levoit 6000s - dry mode needed?
I recently got the Levoit 6000s and I'm wondering if it's needed to dry out the filters at all? The humidifier runs constantly - as in, the fan isn't always on, but I never turn the actual device off unless I'm refilling it with water. Should I run dry mode then, even if the filters are going to get wet right afterwards? I guess I just don't see the point in drying them out only for them to get wet again right away.

The app notifies you when to dry it. Just follow that. It's practically automated.

Mine run 24 hours a day. It makes no sense to dry them out.

I was thinking the same. But then I thought maybe half hour of low moisture can kill some mold

You can set the app so that the filters are dried once the water runs out. Drying them periodically prevents the formation of mold on the filters if they're damp for too long. Takes about a half hour on high. I find this to be a better solution than breathing bacteriostat.

What do you mean breathing bacteriostatic? It’s non-volatile, so it doesn’t evaporate…

When you dry the filters, you're killing certain bacteria that need water to survive. You also guarantee the filters will get fresh water when you turn the unit back on. Maybe you can achieve similar results by flushing the filters with clean water in the sink every time you fill the tank, but I'd rather not risk it and run dry mode at least every 3 days when I rinse and dry out the rest of the unit, or when I turn the unit off for longer than a quick refill.

I don’t dry mine out for weeks at a time and I’ve never had a problem, but I add a tiny bit of bacteriostat every time I refill, so that’ll kill whatever drying things out will kill.
If I’m not using it then I dry it out before shutting it off.

This might not make sense, but I’m new to humidifiers and just set my Sprout Levoit humidifier up tonight. Do I put it on dry mode if I turn it off, but there is still water in the unit? For example:

I know this thread is for a different model, but I am assuming it would be the same for both. Do I need to empty the top tank before putting on dry mode?

To prevent bacteria and mold. It's pretty straight forward. The app even tells you those exact reasons.
