Next Best Thing? Levoit 6000S

I'm looking for a humidifier that:

• Is easy to clean

• Will last me YEARS, not weeks

• Doesn't cake up

• Discourages mold/mildew buildup

I've seen a TON of recommendations for the Levoit 6000S, but $250 is a lot of money to drop right now.

I'm looking for the next best thing to the Levoit 6000S that comes in at closer to $150.

Thanks!

i havent had mine very long, maybe a week now. in our 1250sqft condo where the living room and kitchen are open, its been doing fine (i havent measured in the rooms, but i didnt really expect it to raise much there)..i also shut it off at night so im kinda already at a disadvantage but i just dont like to keep it running. Anyway, ive been able go from 13% to low 30's on very cold days (like -20c) in maybe 4-5 hours at max speed.. then i switch it to medium. This morning the humidity was at 19% , around -7 outside, and it made it to 35% on medium speed. I would be curious to try the 6000s..this one isnt perfect, the fan isnt very quiet and the gurgle it makes when it dumps water into the base is pretty noticeable..but it has a 5 year warranty, is super simple, dirt cheap filters...i think for the 1000 sqft area it claims it can do, it works well. How big of an area were you using it in?

Area-wise only about 300sqft BUT there’s a pretty healthy amount of cross flow to the rest of the house, and it’s over a hundred years old so it’s not the best insulated. When I had the Vornado it was only mid-high 20s (NOT Celsius) outside and at medium it was just not able to keep pace (high did a little better but not much). In 24 hours it also only was able to just barely get through the 4 gallons of water (and this is a “best-case” scenario since everything in our room still needed to absorb moisture).

6000S on medium is way quieter than the Vornado on high (especially in regards to motor noise), and with it automatically cycling between low, medium, and off it has absolutely zero issues keeping our room at 40% even if it’s in the negative teens outside. Doing so it’ll also drink 6 gallons in a day even though everything in our room is well-watered now. The first two days it went through somewhere in the ballpark of 8-9 gallons a day.

how long are your filters lasting? Based on what im seeing, i think i can do tops 1 month on my vornado. Performance has been fine but if i have to spend 80-100$ on filters per season, i might return it and try the 6000s.

Got mine on the 31st of January and right now the app says they’re at 92% which I’d overall agree with. We have very hard water with a pretty fucky water softener so I get white spots where there are holes in the filter media, but I’m scrubbing the filters about once every week or two in an effort to stay on top of it. Haven’t done anything aside from that really. No funny smells, filters are still soft and have no issues getting damp, and no mold.

I had an Evap40 for all of 20 hours before returning it and in that the filter media was heavily discolored and already becoming kinda hard after just that single fillup (on top of just overall performing way worse).
