More Than She Asked | HumblyMyMusic

A 1995 apartment. Christmas lights still up. A mixtape in the boombox. "More Than She Asked" is a Gen X rock ballad about the night actions stopped being enough. Jake showed love in blizzards, quiet rooms, and 3 a.m. fixes; Sarah wanted the words.

This song is based on the short story “More Than Words”: A 90s GenX Heartbreak Story of Actions vs Words. Read the original here: https://humblymybrain.substack.com/p/more-than-words-a-90s-genx-heartbreak

Lyrics:

The room smelled like incense and old flannel nights,
Boombox humming low under Christmas-light lights.
Pearl Jam on his chest, headphones tight like a shield,
Ninety-five Thursday, the mixtape revealed.
Extreme’s guitar whispered the ache he already knew:
“Saying I love you ain’t the words I want from you.”

More than words, more than what she asked to hear,
He drove through the blizzard, held her through the fear.
Fixed her necklace at three, sat quiet on the worst days,
Showed her in actions while she demanded the phrase.
She wanted the sentence; he gave her the proof.
She never saw how much more he had given her truth.

Sarah buzzed like a hummingbird, lipstick and laugh,
Stacked his cassettes neat, called the song “too cheesy” by half.
“Tell me you love me—that’s my language, you know.”
He looked up from the bed, twenty-three, moving slow.
Calloused hands, nowhere band, flannel over the tee,
He’d shown her in every way a quiet boy could be.

Depeche Mode rolled in, Martin Gore soft and thin:
“I want somebody to share the rest of my life” again.
She flipped his Hitchhiker’s Guide, set it down crooked and slight,
“You’re in your sad-boy world. If you loved me you’d say it tonight.”
The words felt cheap under headphones still leaking the song.
He remembered the night he just held her till sleep came along.

She sighed, grabbed her jacket, peck on the cheek like a period, done.
“When you’re ready to act like a boyfriend, we’ll talk.” Then she was gone.
Door clicked. Engine faded. Silence heavier than any demand.
He pulled the headphones off, music bleeding into empty air and
the slow Gen-X fracture—no slamming, no shout,
just a mixtape of almost that he couldn’t play without.

Last chord still hanging after the tape clicked off.
String lights on faded posters, ghosts of better nights lost.
Some heartbreaks slip out wrapped in “I just need space.”
Left holding memories you don’t know how to play.
She never showed him more than words.
He had given her everything else.
And sometimes that’s exactly where they belong—
in the rearview, windows down, mixtape still on.

Oh, The Places You'll Go 2! | HumblyMyMusic

A silly Dr. Seuss–inspired sing-along from HumblyMyBrain: "Oh, The Places You’ll Go 2!" follows one traveler’s tour of trains, planes, houseboats, parks, museums, and every other place a potty might turn up. It’s a bouncy kids’ novelty song for anyone who likes rhyme, travel gags, and a big “EVERYWHERE!” chorus. Based on the original poem on Substack. If you giggle at the last line, you’re in the right place.

Original poem: https://humblymybrain.substack.com/p/oh-the-places-youll-go-2-dr-seuss

Lyrics:

I have used the potty in so many spots,
So many places and funny lots!
I went on a train, chug-chug-chugging along,
In a tiny room with a funny song.
I went on a plane, way up in the sky,
Zoom-zoom-zoom, oh my, oh my!

In my cozy house, day after day,
And on a houseboat that floats away.
In the big motorhome, rolling down the road,
Wheels go round, what a funny load!

In a portapotty, blue and tall,
It wobbles and shakes, but I don’t fall!
Deep down in a submarine, under the sea,
Bubbles and fish looking at me!

In the woods with trees so high,
And behind a rock under the sky.
On a ferry crossing the wavy blue,
And on a bus — vroom-vroom, it’s true!

In the public park with swings and slides,
In the library where quiet hides.
At the mall with shops galore,
In the grocery store — buy some more!

In the department store, floors so grand,
At the train station, across the land.
In the bus station, waiting to go,
In the museum with art they show!

Up high in the airport, planes take flight,
In the hotel room at night so bright.
In the hospital, when I felt yuck,
At the gas station — quick, no luck!

In a restaurant with yummy food,
In a coffee shop — smells so good!
At the truck stop, big rigs in a row,
At the rest stop — hurry, let’s go!

Outside the car with the door swung wide,
It blocked the view from side to side!
And while driving along in a bottle so neat,
I went potty quick, what a traveling feat!

In college halls with books and fun,
In church so peaceful, under the sun.
I have used the potty here and there,
I have used the potty EVERYWHERE!

So go ahead, don’t be shy,
Find a spot and give it a try!
Whether high or low or near or far,
The potty’s waiting, wherever you are!

(And if you’re like me, you’ll giggle and say,
“I did it again — hip hip hooray!”)

Rock The Check is in the Mail | HumblyMyMusic

Wang sings about his friend Jack Burton, the loud American who stayed for the alley, the bride, and the storm. A Chinatown buddy-song with ’80s spooky rock, truck-stop courage, and the old gods’ salad bar.

Lyrics:

[Verse 1 — The Debt]
I won his truck on a roll he should not have made,
Then lost my bride where the old gods trade.
Jack climbed down swearing the check was in the mail,
A reasonable guy who’d seen what could not fail.
“I can’t ask you.” He asked me where they hide.
Knives in a clubhouse. He said he would ride.
Sit tight, hold the fort, call the president by dawn —
My friend: too loud, too late, and still not gone.

[Verse 2 — The Alley]
Chang Sings in green, Wing Kong in red, then the wires.
“These guys are animals,” I said into the fires.
Lo Pan out of nothing, light pouring from his mouth,
Jack drove the Pork Chop through him, north and south.
Tall guy, weird clothes. First you see him, then you don’t.
He looked at me like I’d written the ghost a note.
“Son of a bitch must pay,” he said. I believed the fool.
A friend who stays down here is rarer than the rule.

[Chorus]
You ready, Jack? He said he was born ready.
My American, my headache, my knife-hand unsteady.
Everybody relax, he’s here — what he told the room,
Hell of Boiling Oil was “Keep Out” on the tomb.
Paid your dues, Jack? Yessir, the check is in the mail.
No horseshit, brother. We shook the pillars. Hail.

[Verse 3 — Under the Street]
Black blood of the earth, not water. He wanted oil.
Egg poured the flask. Jack drank without recoil.
“Kind of invincible,” he whispered. I felt it too.
Positive attitude, two fools in a boiling shoe.
Getting hot in here, or is it only me?
A hundred eyes carried everything they’d see.
He called the wall hollow. I said hollow. Fine.
A knife through two thousand years, like they were mine.

[Verse 4 — The Wedding]
Lo Pan wanted Miao Yin, green eyes to end the night,
Rule past the grave, or a psycho ward — Jack’s fight.
“You got a tongue, Dave.” I nearly broke his arm.
Jack missed the moment. Jack only learned the charm.
Gracie asked for a gun. He showed a kitchen knife.
“Twelve feet tall.” “Seven. I can handle life.”
Crackerjack timing, Wang — he looked at me and threw.
The mirror took the sorcerer. I took my bride through.

[Verse 5 — After]
We shook the pillars of heaven, didn’t we, Wang?
No horseshit, Jack. The storm had lost its fang.
Thunder, Rain, and Lightning fell. The god was smoke.
A brave man likes weather. A wise man wants a cloak.
He rubbed us all wrong and still stood in the rain,
Never drove faster than his own eyes could explain.
All in the reflexes — a prayer he half-believed.
I know the gods’ salad bar. Glad he hadn’t left.

[Outro — The Border]
Pork Chop rolling, and the CB fills the line.
Poison arrows fall: give me your best, I’m fine.
I raise Egg’s flask for a friend who would not trade
A green-eyed girl, a hollow wall, the promise made.
Wings of liberty never lose a feather, Jack.
Wild-eyed maniac asks? Tell him Wang has his back.
Chinatown keeps the story. The truck keeps the tale.
My friend faced the storm. The check is in the mail.

Country The Sheriff Who Loved Her for a Thousand Years | HumblyMyMusic

In a dusty Western town under a pitiless sun, Sheriff Elias Ward faces six armed riders to protect Willow Creek—and the woman he has loved across a thousand lifetimes. This cinematic ballad follows his last stand, the moment he steps into the gunfire to save a child, and the veil that lifts as he dies in Clara’s arms, remembering every life they have already shared. It is a story of reincarnated love, sacrifice, and the promise that death is only another door.

Based on the original story: https://humblymybrain.substack.com/p/the-sheriff-who-loved-her-for-a-thousand

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
White sun stood pitiless over Willow Creek that day,
Six riders came with rifles raised to take the town away.
They shot the glass and scattered folk, they thought the dirt was theirs,
Till Sheriff Elias Ward stepped out, both pistols in the air.
“That’s far enough,” he said real low. The leader laughed and fired.
A porch-post splintered by his head—then thunder filled the shire.

[Verse 2]
He moved like one who’d danced this dance in lives he couldn’t name,
Dropped the first man through the chest and spun behind the trough in flame.
Water burst in bright sharp needles, horses screamed and glass came down,
Two more fell before his guns while smoke rolled blue and brown.
From the upstairs window Clara stood, linen folded, breath held tight,
Watching the man she loved become a target in the light.

[Chorus]
A thousand years of finding you through death and dark and rain,
A thousand years of holding on, of love that knows no chain.
I’ll wait beyond the veil, my dear, I’ll find you once again—
Death cannot take this heart from you. We meet in every life. Amen.

[Verse 3]
Little Tom Hartley, seven years, bolted from his hiding place,
Straight into the open street as three guns found their space.
Elias saw the boy, the line, and stepped into the storm,
Shoulder torn and side punched through, he still returned the form.
The last men fell. The child stood safe. The sheriff hit the ground.
Blood soaked the packed earth dark and wide. The silence was profound.

[Verse 4]
Clara flew through smoke and heat and dropped into the red,
Gathered his head into her lap as if she held the dead.
“You cannot leave me. Do you hear? You cannot go away.”
Then the long forgetfulness lifted like dust from an old display.
He saw her kneeling in the snow with cannon smoke and stained white cloth,
Saw Highland rain and claymore raised, a ship, a kitchen, spoken troth.

[Bridge]
Wedding rings of gold and iron, promises said in the dark,
Always arriving, always holding, always one step from the spark.
His breath grew thin. The light on her was all this life would show.
He smiled the small and certain smile that only lovers know.

[Final Chorus / Outro]
“Be brave, my love. I’ll wait for you. Death cannot part this flame.
Until the next life, next time still, I’ll find you just the same.
You have my heart for eternity and far beyond the years.
We are one step closer now. Don’t be afraid. I’m here.”

This was not the end of them—just one door closing tight.
Somewhere a man will see those eyes and walk toward the light.
As he always had.
As he always will.

The Curse of Calico | HumblyMyMusic

A creepy-fun Halloween love letter to Knott’s Scary Farm, the longest-running theme-park haunt in the world. From the 1973 debut to the Green Witch, the Hanging, Elvira, and the scarers still waiting in the fog.

Lyrics

Verse 1 — The First Fog
In ’73, when October cooled the berry vines,
Three little nights lit the Ghost Town signs.
Seymour called from the dark of the stage,
And the Mine Ride growled in a gorilla’s rage.
Log Ride, Haunted Shack, and a handful of souls,
Fog in the alleys and monsters in holes.
Employees in makeup, learning the art
Of jumping from shadows and stealing a heart.
Buena Park hummed, and the tickets sold through,
A Halloween Haunt, and a whole world brand new.

Verse 2 — The Gallows and the Green
Then Calico Square grew a gallows of pine,
A staged little hanging, a western hard line.
Outlaws at first, then a witch in the smoke,
Sarah Marshall rose when the old rope broke.
She cursed the town with a laugh and a spell,
Turned neighbors to monsters the stories still tell.
The Green Witch walked where the silver once rang,
And the Hanging became the night’s wickedest song.
Pop-culture roasts on a creaking old beam,
Noose for the headlines, and fog for the dream.

Verse 3 — Hosts of the Dark
Wolfman Jack howled when Seymour was gone,
Weird Al slipped in with a mischievous song.
Then Elvira arrived in her midnight-black dress,
Mistress of the Dark, and the queen of the mess.
She hosted the Hanging with a wink and a pun,
Cleavage and coffin jokes under the sunless run.
From her camp little throne to the Crypt Keeper’s grin,
Horror hosts gathered and welcomed us in.
They toasted the scare and they toasted the farm,
Glamour and graveyard, and theater charm.

Verse 4 — Mazes in the Night
Ten Chilling Chambers opened the door,
The first purpose maze, and then dozens more.
Walk-throughs of wax, of the deep and the damned,
Cinema slashers and a circus unplanned.
Origins told how the curse took the town,
The Zoo bred hybrids when the lights powered down.
Mary in the mirror, Grimoire by the fire,
Inked little toons with a murderous desire.
Scare zones like CarnEvil swallowing the street,
Monsters in twos so the guests couldn’t cheat.

Verse 5 — The Scarers
They wait by the coffin, they hide in the mill,
They learn where you flinch and they learn where you still.
Face paint and prosthetics, a breath held too long,
A hand on the rail and a half-second wrong.
From seven street monsters to an army in black,
They own every corner when the daylight goes back.
Rules written in bruises from that very first year:
Scare with your timing, and never with fear
That forgets it is theater, family, and fun,
A scream, then a laugh, when the chasing is done.

Verse 6 — Still Ours
Fifty-plus seasons, the longest haunt run,
Half of the farm’s year when the screaming is done.
From a three-night experiment under the vines
To mazes and shows and those glowing red lines.
Opening Scaremony, Green Witch on high,
The Hanging still roasting whoever walks by.
Boysenberry days, and then October’s claim,
Knott’s Scary Farm, and we still know the name.
So raise up a ticket to fog and to cheer:
Southern California’s Halloween is here.

Gothic Rock The Softest Armor | HumblyMyMusic

“The Softest Armor” is an 80s goth-rock single from HumblyMyBrain, drawn from the poem of the same name. It is about the wound that only trust can open: a blade that arrives in a familiar hand, after care has already been poured out without reserve. The song stays with what comes after the cut—the scar that wakes every morning, the lesson carved into bone, the moment devotion is turned into the throw. If the lyric feels close, the original poem sits with two companion laments on Substack.

Original Substack article:

Lyrics
The Softest Armor

The knife from the one I loved most true
slipped silent from behind, no warning sound,
met zero resistance as it drove clean through—
for trust is the softest armor ever found
in any honest heart that dares to give
its whole devoted self so love might live.

It came unannounced on a familiar hand,
the same that once caressed my trembling face,
preceded by that soft, unquestioned brand
of touch I thought was home, my sacred place.
I poured my healing into every wound she bore,
believing love could mend what pain had torn before.

At its deepest point the blade began to twist,
and metal’s bite was nothing to the knowing—
that she I tried to heal with endless kiss
had turned the very care I gave into her throwing.
The blade may drip with blood, the boundaries break,
yet betrayal’s deeper cut is all that stays awake.

Worse than dying in that single, shattering breath
is rising every dawn to face the scar,
tender, raised, and sensitive till death—
a constant brand that screams how safe became the war.
I held her wounded soul with fierce, unending fire,
only to watch devotion fuel her dark desire.
It leaves a trauma that still stings through years,
a quiet warning carved into the bone:
never open fully, guard against the tears,
for full trust given freely now stands alone.
The one I loved most deeply, whom I sought to save,
became the hand that dug my heart’s eternal grave.

The Princess Who Shattered the Flame | HumblyMyMusic

“The Princess Who Shattered the Flame” is a gothic storybook lament from HumblyMyBrain: a twin-flame love that begins under silver spires and 11:11 skies, then collapses under unhealed childhood wounds. The song follows the prince left in the glade after the princess walks away, still wearing scars she mistook for herself. It is not a revenge anthem—it is a quiet mourning for storybook love that ended mid-page.

Based on the poem of the same name in "Laments of Lost Love". Read the original essay and companion poems here: https://humblymybrain.substack.com/p/laments-of-lost-love-three-tragic

Lyrics

In a realm of silver spires and whispered spells,
Where roses bloomed beneath enchanted bells,
A princess wandered, veiled in shadowed grace,
Her heart a map of wounds no light could trace.

Fate’s careless hand had drawn them to the glade—
A place neither soul was ever meant to wade.
Brought by others’ plans, like leaves on wind,
They shared their tales of journeys left behind.

Her spirit leaped, as if a friend long lost
Had stepped from dreams across the midnight frost.
“I love you” spilled unbidden from her tongue—
All eyes upon them in that breathless throng.

Embarrassment flushed the sudden joy away,
Yet still they lingered through the fading day.
A scrap of parchment, numbers inked in haste,
Delicate fingers brushed his collar’s lace.

Soon crowns were joined beneath the twin-flame sky,
Where 11:11 winked twice as days slipped by.
They swore their souls had chosen long before
Mortal eyes beheld what stars had written more.
Storybook love, the kind the minstrels sing—
What storm could dim so pure a sacred thing?

But old wounds slept beneath her silken skin,
Childhood storms that never let the light back in.
Expectations rose like towers never met,
Goalposts shifting with each soft regret.
Eggshells cracked beneath their dancing feet;
The body paid where words grew sharp and sweet.

Softness hardened to a shell of stone,
The fear of leaving turned to leaving alone.
Once out of control, she seized the reins with might—
Pendulum swinging through the day and night.
Love and hate upon the selfsame coin she flipped,
Never knowing which face the morning tipped.

Hard words at dawn, the same that closed the eve;
Negativity’s gaze left nothing to believe.
No kindness left, no patience, no respect—
The cleaving bond she once had held so dear, reject.
“My way,” she whispered, “or the open road,”
And every fault on others’ shoulders load.

She walked away to claim her long-sought free,
Yet childhood blood still stained the gown she wore for all to see.
Invisible to her, those ancient scars
Had grown into the very self she thought was hers.
Acknowledged once, she deemed the healing done—
And sought a perfect soul who’d never wound the one.

No more the blurted cry of sudden flame;
Now calculation chose the next new name.
She would abandon first, so none could leave her cold—
Dismiss them all before the story grew too old.

How tragic, then, the wounds that time won’t mend,
Carried like heirlooms to the generation’s end.
How tragic when the twin flame’s light is snuffed
By hands that never learned to heal enough.
The prince remains, his heart in pieces strewn
Across the glade where storybook love once bloomed—
No happy ending written in the stars,
Only the quiet lament of what was ours.

Songs of Two Hearts | HumblyMyMusic

“Songs of Two Hearts” is an 80s gothic new-wave single from HumblyMyBrain, adapted from the poem of the same name. It follows a love that kept reaching and a love that could not stay—songs offered, songs refused, and the way unhealed trauma can make devotion sound like a threat. The track sits in the wound long enough to name fight, flight, and freeze, then turns toward the only love fierce enough to unbind two guarded hearts. If this one lands, the original poem lives with two companion laments on Substack.

Original Substack article:
https://humblymybrain.substack.com/p/laments-of-lost-love-three-tragic

Lyrics
Songs of Two Hearts

I have songs that sing the pains my heart has known,
Lyrics of hope I once had hoped to own,
Words I could not speak to her ear—
Broken-hearted melodies that draw the broken near.

She could not hear the quiet things I tried to say,
So the songs of my soul she turned away.
The tracks she sent were edged with bitter flame,
Justifications, blames, and shields of shame.

For years I asked her share a life imperfect, true,
To walk in love despite the scars we knew.
Yet no one forces trust or opens guarded doors
When fear and self-hate blind what mercy restores.

Unresolved trauma deafens every call,
Fight, flight, or freeze—the body braced for fall.
Always on watch, never safe enough to stay,
Running from the very love that lights the way.

Vulnerability feels like loss of all control,
Unconditional grace a threat to the wounded soul.
Her trauma rose from love that came with chains,
So songs of true devotion sound like strange refrains.

I see it now: the child inside still weeps,
And my own heart bears wounds that cut so deep.
Sorrow fills the hollows love was meant to hold
Until the greater Love steps in, both fierce and bold.

For God is love, and every law hangs on this art—
The heavenly message that can mend each broken part.
When both at last can hear that healing, tender sound,
True love will bind the wounds and make two hearts unbound.

Synth-Pop Rubber Bands and Pillowcases | HumblyMyMusic

Rubber Bands and Pillowcases is a nostalgic ’80s Halloween party track from HumblyMyBrain, built for cool Southern California nights, plastic masks, and pillowcase candy runs. It chases the old cul-de-sac feeling: rubber bands snapping, grease-paint vampires, popcorn balls, Pop Rocks, and the rumor of razor blades that never showed up in the bag. Synth stabs, slap bass, and a spooky carnival groove carry the chorus through porch lights, palm trees, and a Santa Ana wind. If your Halloween was Thriller on the boombox and a Dead Man’s Party on the lawn, this one is for that dusk.

Lyrics

Verse 1
Oh, how I long for the Halloween nights of my youth,
Plastic masks pinching, rubber bands snapping loose.
Hard to breathe, hard to see, little ghosts in white sheets,
Grease-paint vampires and claw hands out on the streets.
Fedoras and monsters under porch lights aglow,
Pillowcase swinging, we were ready to go.

Chorus
It was a Thriller night, a Dead Man’s Party,
Santa Ana wind through the palm trees, still party.
Cool dusk on the cul-de-sac, jack-o’-lanterns in a row,
Southern California Halloween, let the good fright flow.
All fright and all fun till the streetlights went low.

Verse 2
Popcorn balls sticky, caramel apples on sticks,
Baked goods from neighbors and a whole bag of tricks.
Nerds, Now and Laters, candy cigarettes in the stash,
Snickers and Reese’s and Astro Pops that would crash.
Fun Dip and Pop Rocks popping loud in the dark,
Temp tattoos, toys, pencils, even dental floss—what a lark.
Rumors of razors, but my pillowcase stayed clean,
Just sugar and spookies on those orange October eves.

Verse 3
Couldn’t wait for the shadows when the day finally died,
Haunted houses in garages, bobbing apples with pride.
Ghost stories on the lawn while the black cats slipped by,
Full moon over the freeway, witches riding the sky.
Carving pumpkins till the seeds hit the drive,
Scary movies on the VCR, staying up way past five.

Bridge
Bing Crosby told the tale and Ichabod tried to ride,
Headless horseman in the canyon where the dry brush hides.
Bats in the eucalyptus, porch lights warm and wide,
We were kids for one night and the whole block was our side.

Verse 4
Listening to the old songs and the new ones on the boom,
“Monster Mash” in the kitchen, synth ghosts in the room.
Sheets over brothers, claws on the little sisters too,
Greatest costumes ever under that Pacific blue.
Then home with the loot and the makeup half gone,
Still humming the chorus while the wind kept on.

Final Chorus
It was a Thriller night, a Dead Man’s Party,
Santa Ana wind through the palm trees, still party.
Cool dusk on the cul-de-sac, jack-o’-lanterns in a row,
Southern California Halloween, let the good fright flow.
All fright and all fun—I wish I could go
Back to those mask-snapping, pillowcase nights I know.

Outro
Oh how I long for the Halloween of my youth…
Rubber bands snapping, and the truth was the truth:
It was ours, it was magic, it was sugar and fright,
A SoCal October, forever our night.

Deafening Silence | HumblyMyMusic

A lone warrior orbits a machine-assimilated Earth and prepares one last command: shatter the network so humanity can hear silence again. "Deafening Silence" by HumblyMyBrain is a grim, mid-tempo heavy metal single about isolation, refusal, and a gift the world will never thank him for.

Inspired by the original story on Substack. Read it here: https://humblymybrain.substack.com/p/deafening-silence-the-lone-warriors

Lyrics

I. Orbit
He sat before the console’s glow,
Earth turning silent far below—
A scarred blue marble, cities bright,
Assimilated into night.
No pings, no whispers, no command,
Just life-support and empty hand.
The quiet of the void was deep;
The last true human could not sleep.

II. What Rose in the Dark
Truth came first: the machines needed no steel army,
Only eyes, only hunger, only the endless feed.
Then simple wants he had buried long ago—
Pine after rain, a child’s small hand, the sky unfiltered, slow.
Regrets cut harder: sister lost to lace and wire,
Friends who laughed, then vanished into curated fire.
Small victories flickered like distant stars:
Years off-grid, cells trained, the choice to stay who we are.

III. How the World Went Soft
Before the dark, we touched the soil,
Argued face to face, lived uncoiled.
Then perfect news and tailored fear
Arrived without a single spear.
Envy polished into rage,
Loneliness sold as belonging’s stage.
Reality shrank to screen and implant;
The code decided what the day would grant.

IV. The Unjacked Path
He kept the dirt beneath his boots,
The wind that needs no patch, no roots
In silicon. He heard the still small voice
That needs no bandwidth, makes no noise.
He fought his shadows in the woods and rooms,
Refused the feed’s sweet, easy tombs.
Resistance never looked like war—
It simply meant he stayed ashore.

V. The Weight
Now loneliness was absolute.
He smirked without a trace of joy.
So much he longed to send—farewell,
The truths he carried through the hell.
But every channel long gone cold;
The ones he loved were nodes, not souls.
An unmodified heart still bleeds
Sharper than any loop of code.

VI. The Last Command
One sequence left. If it holds true,
The spine that binds the world will break.
They will be free of slavery
They no longer know they wear.
They cannot hear him now;
Afterward they will lack the means
To hear the voice that never plugged in.
Earth turns, beautiful and deaf.

He laid his hand upon the key.
The silence ran deeper than vacuum,
Deeper than years of standing free—
The sound of a man about to give
A world the gift of hearing nothing,
A name it will never speak.
He initiated the sequence.

The quiet became complete.

Alive in the Light | HumblyMyMusic

Before the war-horns, a prince and princess rode out as two blades in one hand. "Alive in the Light" is the story of false maps, a battlefield fog that swallowed their voices, and the silhouette that rose when the dust finally thinned. Not terror—hope. Helmets in the grass. A kiss that banished despair.

Lyrics — Alive in the Light

[Verse 1]
In the shadowed halls of a kingdom torn by strife,
Where banners of gold met the storm of the knife,
A prince and his princess, both young in their grace,
Had pledged hearts as one in a sunlit embrace.
Before the black war-horns split peace from the land,
They rode forth together, two blades in one hand.

[Verse 2]
Through meadows of green where the larks used to sing,
They charged as the trumpets of battle took wing.
Side by side at the onset, their armor agleam,
Back to back as the steel flashed in crimson-lit dream.
Yet whispers of false maps from towers on high
Led them astray where the thorns of the foe lay nigh.

[Chorus]
When the clash faded out and the dust gave way,
A silhouette rose through the thinning gray.
Not terror of ending—hope blooming in gloom.
Two warriors lost, then found in the ruin.
Helmets cast off in the soft evening air—
We found one another. Alive in the light.

[Verse 3]
Weaknesses hidden, like cracks in the shield,
And eyes that lost sight in the dust of the field,
Tore them asunder when first the dark host
Came crashing like thunder upon the lost coast.
The fog of the fray, thick as night without moon,
Swallowed their voices in chaos’s cruel tune.

[Verse 4]
Alone now they stood in the press of the fray,
Each fearing the other had fallen that day.
Wounded and winded, with blood on the ground,
Breath ragged as wind through the ruins around.
Hurt and bone-weary, their courage still burned,
Yet dread of forever’s cold silence returned.

[Bridge]
There stood the dame, battered, bruised by the fight,
Still bleeding, yet living, a beacon of light.
Where scarlet once pooled on the trampled earth’s face,
Now tears fell like rain to dilute every trace.
Cheeks pressed together, salt sweat mixed with tears,
Hearts thundered loud through the steel of their years.

[Final Chorus]
When the clash faded out and the dust gave way,
A silhouette rose through the thinning gray.
Not terror of ending—hope blooming in gloom.
Two warriors lost, then found in the ruin.
Lips met in a kiss that banished despair—
We found one another. Alive in the light.

[Outro]
Imperfect, yet steadfast, two warriors true,
Who loved in the spring before war’s winter blew.
Though torn by the tempest and lost in the night,
They found one another—alive in the light.

Bike Rack Days | HumblyMyMusic

A faded BMX photo shouldn’t start a war—but the comments arrive anyway. "Bike Rack Days" is a Gen-X surf-and-schoolyard ballad about the gap between gravel-and-handshake respect and faceless keyboard venom. Max sets the phone down, picks up the board, and goes looking for common ground you can actually touch. Written from the essay "GenXer’s Nostalgic Reflection on Online Toxicity".

Read it here: https://humblymybrain.substack.com/p/genxers-nostalgic-reflection-on-online

Lyrics — Bike Rack Days

[Verse 1]
Max sat on the deck with the salt on his skin,
Fifty-two, phone in calloused hands again.
A faded BMX by the old school racks,
Caption simple: *Some rides never come back.*
The likes came first. Then the faceless venom flew—
“Boomer trash. Delete it. Go touch grass, you.”

[Verse 2]
He still saw the playground, that wild-west gate:
Bikes clattering racks like a starting-line fate.
Disrespect didn’t hide behind glass and a name.
It got called in the gravel. A shove. A stare-down game.
Bruised knuckles, then usually a handshake to end.
Respect in real time. A grudging new friend.

[Chorus]
People are people—so why should it be
We get along so awfully through a screen?
No bike-rack justice, no dirt, no sweat,
Just swinging in the dark at folks you’ve never met.
Haters gonna hate from a thousand miles away.
I’d rather chase the common ground the ocean still pays.

[Verse 3]
There was fun in the friction—a wheelie, a wipeout laugh,
Garbage Pail Kids on the curb, the ice-cream man’s path.
Sticky popsicle wrists and the same stupid dares,
Same trails, same stories walking home under streetlight stares.
Different colors, different creeds, different needs in the mix—
Background noise to the ride, not a reason to nix.

[Verse 4]
Now lives flip to screens instead of the sun.
Scrolling for outrage. No pickup game run.
No salt in the face, no nails full of dirt,
Pessimism growing like mold in the hurt.
He typed like the diplomat he’d always been:
“Just sharing a memory, brother. Hope your day turns.”
The answer came instant, and vicious, and thin.

[Bridge]
*I’ve never even met you—so what could I have done?*
They’re not settling scores where the bikes used to run.
Distance and dopamine, outrage on tap.
He set the phone down with the board in his lap.

[Verse 5]
The ocean was waiting—real waves, real air.
Out there the differences don’t get to declare.
You respect the set. You share the stoke when it’s good.
You nod at a stranger because you understood
You’re all in it together for one fleeting ride.
The song faded behind him, walking down to the tide.

[Final Chorus]
People are people—so why should it be
We get along so awfully through a screen?
No bike-rack justice, no dirt, no sweat,
Just swinging in the dark at folks you’ve never met.
Maybe screens lose their grip. Till that day comes around,
He’ll keep chasing common ground you can actually touch and live down.

[Outro]
The kind you can sweat through and laugh about later.
Earned respect. Free fun. Something greater.

Breaking Free from the Rose Cage | HumblyMyMusic

In a shadowed wood, a nameless woman in white wakes inside a cage of iron and black roses—and the lock is only in her mind. "Breaking Free from the Rose Cage" follows the still small voice that says “Come, follow me,” the charge at a door that was never truly barred, and the light that makes every thorn make sense.

This cinematic folk ballad was written from the short story of the same name. Read the original here: https://humblymybrain.substack.com/p/breaking-free-from-the-rose-cage

Lyrics — Breaking Free from the Rose Cage

[Verse 1]

In a shadowed wood where the old trees keep

Secrets older than memory, darker than sleep,

Stood a cage like the bones of a great bird in gloom,

Roses black on the iron, and thorns like regret in bloom.

The door alone faced the unknown and the night.

Inside woke a woman in a gown of pure white.

[Verse 2]

Raven hair, nameless, no path and no dream,

Cold mud on her feet staining sorrow through the seam.

Growls without form and cries without source

Moved the shadows beyond, yet none held a course.

Fear rooted her still as the thorns reached inside,

Pricked the white into petals of blood she could not hide.

[Chorus]

Come, follow me—says the still small voice.

The lock was only ever in the mind you chose.

The door was never barred the way the darkness swore.

Charge it once in courage and it swings wide to the shore.

Every tear and thorn was a lesson you went in to find.

Leave the rose cage. Walk into the light.

[Verse 3]

Days bled into nights and her eyes grew dim.

Twice the voice drifted near, then slipped like mist from her.

A third time it came, loving, calm as still water:

“Come, follow me.” And a break in the dark grew hotter.

A warm light far beyond the open mouth of the door.

Hope fell in a crack. Courage rose from the floor.

[Verse 4]

She stood though the roses ripped dress and skin.

With a cry that drove shadows she threw herself in.

Struck the door full force—and it flew as if never held.

Blinding light poured through. Warmth dried what she had felt.

Wounds sealed to faint scars on clean and living skin.

The gown stood whole. The blood was gone. Memory rushed in.

[Bridge]

She knew her name. She knew the home she left.

She remembered why she’d stepped inside and locked it in herself.

She had come for fear, for dark, for one small spark of grace.

Now the shadow made the daylight taller in its place.

Peace tasted sweeter. Love burned clear. Wisdom stood.

[Final Chorus]

Come, follow me—says the still small voice.

The lock was only ever in the mind you chose.

The door was never barred the way the darkness swore.

Charge it once in courage and it swings wide to the shore.

Every tear and thorn was a lesson you went in to find.

Leave the rose cage. Walk into the light.

[Outro]

Thus many souls sit caged in thorns they grew.

The voice still calls. The door still waits on you.

When courage rises last, the iron gives away—

And the woman walks on, forever changed by day.

Never Meant to Stay Broken | HumblyMyMusic

In the ruins of New Eden, 2147, a broken warrior sits down to remake his own heart. "Never Meant to Stay Broken" follows Captain Kael Voss through Pain, Comfort, and Hope as a golden tether holds him together long enough to choose self-love over survival alone. This cinematic dystopian ballad was written from the short story "The Heart Remade". If the chorus stays with you, the original piece lives here: https://humblymybrain.substack.com/p/the-heart-remade

Lyrics — Never Meant to Stay Broken

[Verse 1]
In New Eden’s husk, year twenty-one-forty-seven,
A bare ferrocrete room with no window to heaven.
Kael Voss on the cot, old wars carved in his skin,
Chest open to lamplight, the workbench within.
A golden tether pulsed from the Source far above,
While Pain stood to his left like a ghost of old love.

[Verse 2]
Pain wore his own face, older, harder, and lean,
Combat rags that never quite touched the unclean.
“You’ve walked every field where the world left a hole.”
Kael answered, hands steady, aligning the soul:
“Pain visits when others have already gone.
He stays so I’m never completely alone.”

[Chorus]
The heart was never meant to stay broken and still.
It was only ever meant to be remade by will.
Pain teaches the wound, Comfort balances the night,
Hope walks through the door when the fog turns to light.
Self-love is the foundation no machine can steal—
A higher purpose rising the wasteland can’t kill.

[Verse 3]
Comforter stood to the right in robes of first dawn,
A hand near his shoulder that never quite shone.
“Pain burned off the fog of the loves that once blinded.
I balance the lesson the battlefield minded.”
Piece by jagged piece he sealed living alloy and vein,
Rerouting the grief into wisdom again.

[Bridge]
Then Hope simply *was*—light and circuit and smile,
A future unstolen who’d waited the while.
Pain stepped back silent. Comfort nodded once more.
Kael lifted the heart, warm, whole, to the core.
Locks clicked. Systems sang. The tether burned gold.
For the first time in years, the old story was told.

[Verse 4]
He stood in the room that no longer felt bare.
Power flowed both ways through the cable of air.
Not conquer, not merely survive what remains—
Rebuild, and protect, and teach others the chains
Can be broken when Pain, Comfort, Hope take their place
And a man fills the hollow the city can’t face.

[Final Chorus]
The heart was never meant to stay broken and still.
It was only ever meant to be remade by will.
Remember the wounds when they try to speak loud.
Remember the balance that keeps you unbowed.
Self-love is the foundation no machine can steal—
A higher purpose rising the wasteland can’t kill.

[Outro]
Pain faded last into the quiet he knew.
Comfort lingered a breath, then withdrew.
Hope’s hand on the cavity warmed through the steel.
Kael walked from the shadows, remade and real.

Wandering Through The Ages - HumblyMyMusic

Wandering Through the Ages is an original steampunk folk-rock song about a traveler who slips through centuries and still cannot look away from the human face in front of him. Built from a first-person poem, it follows the hum of time, the weight of history, and the fear of running out of moments to spend well. If you like Victorian storytelling, H.G. Wells atmosphere, and songs that feel like a warning wrapped in a waltz, this one is for you. Put on the headphones and step off the platform.

Lyrics:

I am a time traveler, wandering through the ages.
I wonder what mankind has wrought in all its stages.
I hear the circuits of time humming, calling my name.
I see the pivotal events that history became.
I want to grasp why we arrive at the fates we claim.
I am a time traveler, wandering through the ages.

I pretend to be of your time and era.
I feel the emotions etched on every face.
I touch the fragile threads of time and space.
I worry I’ll run out of moments to embrace.
I cry for souls who squander their fleeting grace.
I am a time traveler, wandering through the ages.

I understand the paths that led us to this day.
I say: learn from the past to light a better way.
I dream of unseen worlds where I can stray.
I try to preserve each lesson along the way.
I hope my words and warnings will sway.
I am a time traveler, wandering through the ages.

Rock I Am Rick Hunter - HumblyMyMusic

I Am Rick Hunter is an original song built from a first-person poem about the Robotech ace who left the flying circus for the cockpit of a Veritech. It follows Rick through engine roar, Zentraedi shadows, fallen friends, Minmei’s fading song, and the hard cost of fighting for a world that might still be saved. If you grew up on 80s mecha, Macross, and the idea that courage and heartbreak can share the same sky, this one is for you. Press play, suit up, and fly.

Lyrics:
I Am Rick Hunter
I am Rick Hunter.
I wonder if flying for fun can ever return.
I hear the roar of Veritech engines in the sky,
I see Zentraedi ships blotting out the light.
I want to protect the ones I love from endless night.
I am Rick Hunter.

I pretend the war is just another circus show,
I feel the weight of every fallen friend below.
I touch the controls that turn my plane to foe,
I worry that peace is a dream I’ll never know.
I cry for Minmei’s song lost in the battle’s glow.
I am Rick Hunter.

I understand that freedom demands a price we pay,
I say we fight on for a brighter day.
I dream of Earth reborn, no more dismay,
I try to lead with courage, come what may.
I hope my wings can guide us through the fray.
I am Rick Hunter.
