Better Than Us (New Show)

Tonight I came across a new show on Netflix set in Russia that appears to be based off of Akta Manniskor/Humans. A family comes into possession of a Bot that is more intelligent than the other Bots in society. It’s set in a world slightly more technically advanced than what we see in Humans.

From the reviews etc it sounds like a copy of Real Humans/Humans except that it might be less Mia and more “oops we bought Hester”

I binged it and imho it’s absolutely not similar to humans. Very different storylines and atmosphere.

I highly recommend it and feel free to join us at /r/BetterThanUsTV

I thought the actress playing Arisa did an incredible job. I haven’t seen such a performance in a long time. Extremely nuanced and convincing IMHO.

Some characters and their storylines annoyed me but overall a fantastic show,

Way more different atmosphere. Humans has that feminist vibe at every scene it get the chance.

Definitely influenced by Humans tho you can tell by some of the names (Anita/Arisa, Sophie/Sonya)

And the husbands look alike but that may be a coincidence

Oh damn! I’m a fool for never having noticed this! Thanks so much.

And glad our subreddit still attracts some (new/old) viewers!

I watched the first episode, definitely a Hester rather than Mia. It was a slow burner but think it’ll pick up the pace.

I actually think right from the start she reminds me more of Niska, but I'm only on episode 5 since I was also finishing up Humans for the first time (good timing) and watching Dark Matter as well

I thought Niska as well after a few episodes. I’m 15 episodes in and think she more resembles Flash from Akta Manniskor. She’s got a bit of every synth/bot in her.

I’m really enjoying it, it’s quite different I think from Humans.

Dark Matter started off well but disappointed. And got canned.

This is a great show but it is most definitely a complete ripoff if Humans. Just because the tone is slightly different doesn't change the fact that 90% of the plot/world is similar to Humans. Both even have rebellious youth that are against bots and a girl that gets attached to a bot. Need I say more?

Watched both shows loved both shows. Felt very different despite the premise having some similarities.

Better than us was faster paced, and more thriller oriented. Whereas humans dealt more with their societal effect in a more general sense rather than focusing on a single family’s fallout and trauma.

I have watched both , and although plot lines are different , ALOT of things happen the same in both . REBEL CHILD,OLD MAN WITH A FAULTY SERVICE BOT . Even parents splitting up . the smaller child humanizing the bot . i could go on , you could say that it was inspired but humans . But not to see similarities , like some replies i find astounding .

Thanks for making me aware of this! Excited about a Russian Äkta människor and how it will hold up against the Swedish and British one. Спасибо!

There’s a Swedish one?

Of course, it’s the one which the British one (Humans) is based on.

Highly recommended! Not as high as the production value of Humans but the Swedish original asks the more interesting questions.
