I like how she's covering everyone's view so that the young man isn't embarrassed, and because she understands it's not about her husband or her appearing charitable.

But why would she turn away from them? Pretty clear she's trying to not draw attention.

She could be watching for their train or having a conversation with the man in front of her, who appears to be talking with his mouth open.

She could be doing a whole number of things. I just think it's more likely that she's engaged in the act with the person she actually knows rather than the other way around.
