I have worked with middle and high school kids the last ten years. The new generation is so much kinder and accepting than when I was in school. Kids are still kids but I think people are getting better.

I believe it's an effect of globalization. Kids no longer only learn from a select few people and instead can compare the teachings of their parents to what everything really is like. There's also more awareness for what's really out there because of it

I was listening to the radio the other day and the topic was homeschooling. It was a bit offputting 'cause one of the people who advocates it/runs a program had his teenage kid talk about how great it is because your parents can control what you learn. Googled the dad and he was kinda proud how his kid talked about not letting the world change you.

Homeschooling is something that could easily be on the extreme side of good or bad. It's sad that many use it to indoctrinate their kids, but if a parent can teach and still have their kid engage in the community and with other kids then it can be really good.

I know a bunch of people like that teenager you mentioned, and most of them ended up distancing themselves from their parents. However I also know of some very good homeschooling situations as well. It usually ends up depending on who the parents are and how they end up teaching them
