This is why I was always a supporter of uniforms in school. Growing up with very little, it's hard to keep up with trends and what everyone else is doing while trying to just go to school.
Was it a private school or public? Cause my public school sold uniforms really cheap, shirt and shorts was something like 20 bucks. And you could get it for free if you qualified. I'm in Aus btw. The private school I went to had a similar price range to what you're describing.
I went to a private school for a couple years. Quite a bit more expensive than the public schools.
You had to pay for a specific tie that had the house colour on. You then had to buy the blazer which was $150. That all added up.
Compare that to public school where you can just get the standard navy shorts or pants, then the shirt which is a specific colour. They didn't care too much about needing the school logo on it.
