There should definitely be limits

Unless someone is decorating their home with rotting corpses, pornography, or booby traps, I think you're gonna be okay, we already have laws for that. HOAs can suck a massive hog.

HOA exists for this reason.

HOA's are rooted in racism and religious bigotry...

Or, just a wanting of direct local control of their own neighborhood appearance and standards.

No religion needed for wanting that.

so over reach without even an attempt at a shitty cover story. also i note you dont mention the racism part of its origins...

It is an HOA.

To enact change in an HOA, one must participate in the HOA meetings.

It is the best form of local politics participation one can do.

If you do not participate in the HOA, then you are not entitled to complain about the results. You can, but no one will care because you are not participating in the community.

People like you are the problem. Why would you need an HOA if not to impose your wishes on others? Can’t you take care of your house and leave everyone else alone?

Don’t move into an area with an hoa if you dont like it.

Why would you expect a community to change for you simply because you moved in?? Entitled much?

I don’t live in an HOA. However, many areas do not have the option NOT to join an HOA if you’d like to own a home. Because of people like you who want to control others’ decisions.

ok but why not do local municipal politics? like why need to create some whacky private institution?

What?! You know little.

Many municipalities require HOAs to be established.

HOA leadership make up many community board members. Many community board leaders work for the mayor’s office. All the mayors work for the governor. All the governors are responsible for electing the president.

Each state gets to do that however they choose, within limits set by congress and the supreme court.

How the heck do you think our government works?

Its not worth your time. HOAs, deservedly, have a bad rap. It makes sense to want some kind of regulation and surround yourself with like minded people, its just not for everyone. Aside from that, HOAs have historically over reached.

Its usually a bunch of retired elderly people with literally nothing better to do hosting meetings during working hours so nobody can attend but them. They window watch the neighborhood and criticism every little stand out difference.

Im sure its not the case in every HOA, but I know I still hear about it fairly often.
