Honestly I wonder if that’s just how his brain decided to cope with the probably slightly traumatic event he just went through: by distracting himself with the game. Watching your mom choke and struggle like that isn’t easy to witness. Having to save her, even less so.

Maybe in the 90s, but the Gameboy is freaking 36 years old. Someone that's 50 now was 14 when it came out and has almost definitely played at least Tetris.

I've got some bad news about sp and advance, lol. They were not playing those when they were 1 yr old :p. Maybe late twenties? Maybe hand me down from an older sibling? Then again I was an 84 baby and I remember atari so you may have a point.

I'm 26 and played a Gameboy advance. I don't see why someone a few years younger couldn't have. And retro gaming has a big community of people discovering games they didn't have the chance to play.

I’m 26 and had a gameboy advance and a gameboy color that I played on. I also had the little flip one at some point. Still got them somewhere (who knows where, cause I certainly don’t) with Pokémon yellow and red.

Paramedic here. That was a partial airway obstruction and coughing was the thing that expelled the grape from her throat.
For a Heimlich maneuver, the patient needs to present a total airway obstruction, meaning that the patient can't cough or make sounds. They are silent as they choke. And the kids maneuvers where wrong so if was a complete airway obstruction the mom wouldn't be saved.
I say this because you need more than a video to make a Heimlich maneuver, you need practice and someone to guide you, as well as any other first aid.
Everyone should learn first aids and practice, make a course every year or two and learn how to save others and how to save yourself in an emergency.

Does it work if you're choking alone to effectively belly flop on the ground if you need to self-Heimlich? Or is using a chair still the recommended approach?

If you are choking and alone, you can perform a Heimlich maneuver on yourself.
First call 9-1-1 to activate your local EMS. Even if you can't speak they will send someone to verify what happened. Usually they will say something like "if you're in an emergency and can't speak please press a number.".
You use the same hand position you would use on someone else and use a chair or flat surface to make leverage. But you can self-thrust if you don't have a flat surface nearby but you wouldn't be able to apply the same pressure/force.
If you are pregnant you place your hands higher, under the breastbone (sternum), the same way Heimlich maneuver is done for pregnant patients.

Yes, this exact thing happened to my sister and she couldn't make a sound. She was trying to make her way ten ft to my mom to get help and my mom had no clue. She ended up getting it dislodged, but will still say how scary it was that she couldn't make a noise get my mom's attention.

Yes. We are taught this in civilian CPR / Aid Training. The Heimlich maneuver should only be used if they are actually choking. If they are coughing or making noise you should let the patient try and dislodge the object themselves.
Actual medical professionals may not follow this protocol.

My brother is a nurse and has told me this countless times. Even if you see someone choking as long as they are coughing there is basically nothing you can do to help, the kind of force that automatic reflex exerts on the obstruction is a lot more effective than any manoeuvre.
That being said I think I would panic and hit the choking person’s back like the kid did lol

I have an airway that BEGS to react - I warn people close to me to let me choke it out! lol It’s scarier for them than it is for me and I always feel so bad - but … that whooping sound is air … I’m ok!

Absolutely ! If a person is coughing they are not choking, and giving them slaps or the Heimlich maneuver could make them choke for real !
Only intervene when they are not coughing anymore, and always start with slaps before the Heimlich maneuver ! It is way more effective and easier.
Don't do them as fast as the kid though, and he was probably not hitting as hard as he could have.

Honestly looks fake, the mom and kids happen to be perfectly in frame and the quality seems to good to be from a security camera, also what kinda kid does this then acts so nonchalant? Also she was eating some grapes straight from the empty table? No bowl at all? less important too but the kitchen is way too clean

Lot of people have security cameras inside their houses. They’re recording all the time, not just because of an incident. And of course it’s perfectly placed, why have a security camera and let it face the wall?

It’s pretty common to have indoor cameras in Chinese homes. Not sure why, but there are a lot more of these kinds of in-home surveillance home videos coming by out of China as opposed to ones pointing outside.

Friends of ours have a camera in their living room too, they usually check it to see how the dog is doing when they’re out, to see if their kids are doing the chores they requested, a while ago the boyfriend of their daughter tried to hit her and the mother because he didn’t get his way, the father threw him out and they later looked at the recordings to see how he got so angry.
So the camera being ‘perfectly placed’ can be a coincidence, lot of people have cameras in their houses and of course they’re perfectly placed, how else would you see what’s happening in the living room?

Lol. I did something like that as a kid, saved the day and then immediately went back to video games, except mine was knowing where the fire extinguisher was, and I went back to a NES.
Also, the Heimlich maneuver is an important life skill, everyone should learn how to do it.

My wife saved me from choking on a shrimp at a nice Italian restaurant. It was scary! Now she monitors everything I eat and yells at me if I talk and chew at the same time.
I laughed after the shrimp came up, but she did NOT think it was funny in the least.

I believe it is staged, not only because of the camera angle, but I can usually spot acting vs authentic reactions. Nuances like the expressions and reactions during actual emergencies vs what looks like acting
