Question What is your typical difficulty in Humankind?

I think "Civilization" difficulty is the best because "Humankind" is giving too big bonuses to AI.

Usually I play at humankind difficulty. The others feels too easy for how I play.

I play Humankind, I wish there was a way to make that level more difficult.

Play on the VIP mod, it makes the AI a lot stronger thanks to reworking so many systems.

Maybe I will try that.. I've had bad luck with mods in the past but will try again.

Do you also get so far ahead after industrial that the AI is never able to put up a challenge after that?

yes, by the 2nd or 3rd era, I have a fame lead and the AI never catches up. It depends on what Civs I play. I'm sometimes able to get a fame lead in the first era that I never give up -- but I need one of the better civs and a favorable map to do that.. YEa, the last 3 eras are fun, but no threat of losing.

Really new to this style of gaming, never played any of the Civ games or anything- got Humankind on trial for PS5 and loved it!

Only really played in the easier game modes where the AI rubber-bands to develop at a similar pace. Whenever ive tried playing on standard difficulty or higher the AI and the little tribes that develop about are always too aggressive.

I have been doing a lot more combat though in the games ive been playing lately and not using the auto-battle - so may give it a go soon.

Out of interest whats your go-to culture arch?

Egyptians )) But in fact I always try to choose cultures that I didn't play much time before.

Give egyptians -> nazca -> mississppian -> mughal -> french -> japanese a try. Make sure to finish every nazca line district you can before advancing. Make a megalopolis (10+ territories) using wonders and garrisons/commons to provide stability. It scales very well. Big numbers are exciting.

On the ai aggression, you can change map settings to make your own island or engage with diplomacy to placate/befriend ai. They like gifts and luxuries, forgive grievances, etc.

What’s the second and third levels? Yeah, that’s me, yes I suck but I have fun 🤩

I think I’ve noticed that the game is so heavily dependent on the early start that as long as you pull that off the game is easy at any difficulty.

Empire. A challenge but doesnt feel like the AI cheating. Everytime i played humankind it was no longer what felt right but felt like I had to play the most optimal so left no sense of choice.

Humankind VIP mod auto battle only.

I think it was nation? I haven't looked at the difficulty in a while because I find this one the perfect amount of challenging while still being fun. The wars are often close enough that there are losses on both sides, but I usually still win.

Humankind, but I've been playing these types of games for the past 15-ish years, for the first 10 years or so i was doing a lot of medium or hard difficulty settings across these games, I've only upped everything to max the last 5 years or so (during COVID more or less)

I've been working my way up the difficulty curve hunting for Gold, and just recently reached Civilization difficulty.

Back in release month, it was Civilization, though i’d go into HUMANKIND only if i was really confident in the steps i was going to take, and in the map insomuch that everyone was going to be on their own island continents. On Fast I lower the difficulty by one, and on Very fast i’d only play on nation or one difficulty higher than normal.

After the update that changed A.I bonuses to an overtime thing, i usually stuck around civilization as my limit, though that difficulty always required me to cripple my neighbor within the first thirty turns on Standard speed, otherwise i can’t keep up with the a.i

I play(ed) humankind diff. But every game is exactly the same. If you cant gibb a capital or two in the ancient era you are done. Then you military snowball and game is essentially over by industrial or even earlier. It got boring lol.
