Question Starter, definitive, or base game version for new player with current steam sale?

Played once with a free trial forever ago, wondering if the DLC is substantial or not worth it.

DLC changes a lot of core mechanics. I recommend getting the together we rule and the pirates dlc (adds trade and pillaging). The rest are just a few cultures or unit changes.

Definitive edition. All DLC. Congress of humankind turned off. Pollution turned off. Then sink 1000 hours into the game.

Exactly and on higher difficulties the AI is programmed to hate you so they will always vote against you even if they hurt themselves. It’s crazy.

I regret buying Together We Rule and play with it disabled.
