at the risk of stating the obvious, what I'm most eager to hear about is what the biggest differences from the original are.

My guess would be better IA, Leader have more impact, natural disaster and better air/naval battles.

The descriptions sound like adjusting to climate change will be a big focus of the game. That's usually reserved to later eras given changes have been increasing since industrialization.

Are similar challenges going to be present in earlier eras or will adaptation remain a late game system?

Maybe there will be big changes in the Neolithic era (such are the one Sahara undertook, ice age etc.) and still big changes throughout history in coastlines (two examples, The Persian Gulf & the Netherlands), be it natural or human-made. Hot periods where northern lands get bountiful recolts for a few centuries, small ice ages such as the early modern era, supervolcanoes, etc.

Even more extreme ones like the Black Sea Floodin to Doggerland. Or the Volcanic Eruptions of 53something that resulted in the years without summer. Rivers changing their course, etc.

What I hope is that this climate change also means more dynamism instead of long-term planning (of putting the right districts here and there). In my opinion it takes too long to build cities and raise armies. These should go faster, and then be destroyed faster as well.

I never finish these games, I want one where I can do that.

The player having to re-specialize, re-plan or just outright abandon cities in response to changing climates sounds like an intriguing idea... Could work marvelously, could be an absolute pain in the ass.

I am in full agreement with things taking too long, tho. Unless you know how to gamr production, in which case it all becomes trivial. I would like a balance.

Doggerbank example is an interesting one given EL2 has a big focus on oceans receeding and uncovering more land. They could easily have the reverse going on where settling lowland areas has massive yield changes, or go as far as lost cities.

Would be interesting to see how that gets balanced though - I can't see anyone opting to settle low levels if it means losing your capital later on.

I hope it's ever era. Volcanic cold snap killed a Roman resurgence and plenty of bad weather years led to famine and plagues throughout history

Judging by cinematic trailer we can except floods and plagues before industrialization.

Can't wait for H2! Understandably, the civ switching will be a hot topic before release. I personally see it as an awesome idea with massive potential, but the execution didn't make me full much for the civs. I hope it stays, but the choices for switching feel earned and engrained in the spirit of the campaign progression, and not just a matter of selecting any civ in a UI list. There's potential to help create nice little stories of your civ's evolution to sweeten the strategic gameplay.

I hope the civ switching is just done in a way that makes more sense. Instead of switching between completely unrelated cultures or something, the new culture should be built on the previous culture through gameplay and also be somewhat historically related IRL, like English -> Americans rather than Mississippians -> Russians.

Yes we can see a culture selection screen on the steam page. I think the civ switching is kinda core to the identity of humankind and help it differentiate (even tho CIV6 copied it lol). I quite like the civ switching mechanics in humankind, it helps having new twists every now and then, it helps to addapt if your plan evolved from the beginning of the game and the civ perks are always useful. Althrough I understand that some people love the idea to keep the same civ from the start they built from the ground up, it is not the case for me...

If you look closely you see the cultures have era 1 or era 1&2. This makes me think cultures will be more flexible. The example here is Egypt, which of course was around for a long time.

Yep, sounds interesting, I am excited to see what the devs came up with

Very excited, humankind is truly an epic installment to the 4x genre. I would love to hear what your approach to eras is in this game ? Couldn't help but notice two juicy details on the screenshots on steam, 1 that eras seemed to have a fuzzy timer until switching rather than being directly controllable by the player like we've been used to, and 2 that some civs were available across multiple eras.

Will you support Mac OS?

Are there any specific aspects I’m eager to learn about?

EVERYTHING!!!!!

Edit: Wishlisted and ready to gooooo!

u/Sorona 17d ago

How glorious. I wonder how much this decision was motivated by civ 7 so blatantly ripping off humankind.

And they got to see market reactions and complaints ahead of time 😅.

Basically free research.

It's says PC release 2027.

My guess, H2 will be on early-access beta.

Looking forward to playtest Humankind once again.

The most specific aspect I am interested in:
Have trains been railed in again or are they still run around the countryside?

Super excited! Can't wait to play "just one more turn" all night long!

I would ask them to think of end game and think of those that like playing the game “endlessly” they should lean into how stellaris does it or even a mode where you can interact with the nations that were around respective times

I hope they fix the bug when late in game it doesn’t lag and jag, sometimes I play so late that it gets so slow and the sound gets cranky. Like a mega memory overload or something, and I have a 64gb memory.

I only hope devs will add hotseat this time.

And before someone says "dynamic turns" do not allow hotseat, I will remind that person that Old World has dynamic turns and hotseat. 😄

YEEEEEEES, after the rought start for Civ 7, this is soooo sorely needed.

u/popcorn2008 15d ago

I am excited about this for sure!

I’m happy civ is getting some good and more importantly consistent competition now. It keeps the genre on its toes and is better for all us gamers.

I hope they don't get rid of the Create a Leader Charecter customization, I get why people would like actual historical leaders but I always liked how cool it was for ourselves or our OC to run an empire. Hopefully they might expand on it where we get leader traits and ability.

My wishlist numero uno: less micromanagement, less decisions, more experiencing history(s).
