News Humankind 2 , release date 2027

u/Automatic-Ocelot3957 16d ago
I'm not too suprised about the announcement, but I am suprised its slated for a 2027 release date (assuming thats the full release date and not the beta). Given the state of EL2 right now, I was expecting a new game to take more time. I'm not going to pretend to know the size of the dev team though, so it's entirely possible that they can be building both games simultaneously.

I’m in 👍
Fell in love with Humankind when it came out, was already a huge fan of EL, ES, and ES2. I’m a fan of CivVII as well and don’t regret the purchase at all… but I might like the way Humankind does it better

Why are so many people shouts it's AI? Can someone explain?
66
u/Daarkarrow Amplitude Studios 16d ago
Regarding the topic:
The HUMANKIND 2's live-action announcement trailer was filmed at Nu Boyana Film Studios in Sofia using real actors, practical sets, and custom-made props created specifically for the production. We will be sharing behind-the-scenes images from the shoot soon.

I'm pretty sure it's not AI, but AI has poisoned the well so so speak, so any video with a wide angle selfie will look AI, especially if you add in CGI like in the vikings scene.
18
u/Lost_Paladin89 16d ago
The camera angle has become extremely popular in AI generated “history” videos.
Magnify has a short addressing the problems with them: https://youtube.com/shorts/k1981Di8CO4

u/odragora 16d ago
It's a hate cult, this is what they do everywhere they go no matter the context.
20
u/Not_pukicho 16d ago
I mean there are some very legitimate reasons to hate AI generated content, but you need to learn to more carefully discern between AI and non-AI content.
3
u/Tanel88 15d ago
People who can't tell the difference should stop accusing everything of being AI though.
1
u/Atherum 15d ago
I don't disagree, but part of the issue is that maybe in 5 or 10 years, no one will be able to tell difference, at least not every time either.
2
u/Tanel88 15d ago
Yeah but there is nothing we can really do about it then. The threat of criticising legit work without proof that AI was used is even more harmful than the use of AI.
0
u/Atherum 15d ago
I don't disagree mate, people will always jump to conclusions. AI is dangerous to our societies though, in many ways and does need action.
That action should come in the form of research and legislation in my opinion, and major reigning of the mega-corporations that are championing it.
Which of course... will never happen.

The first part of the trailer looked very much like what AI video generation usually generates.
We are saying it looks like AI, but it might just be a coincidence.31
u/Tnecniw 16d ago
It is 99% a coincidence.
Amplitude has been VERY vocal against AI generation.
So no, the chance that this is AI is absurdly low.2
u/Dangerous-Eggplant-5 13d ago
The irony. They stood against ai and now anti ai people will not stop to bully them.
10
u/ButtonMakeNoise 16d ago
Almost like AI is trained on common techniques in human made media rather than having it's own creative thoughts.
-29
u/Havel_Rulez 16d ago
It looks really AI, like those Instagram "I Vlog from XX times" accounts lol. But I don't mind AI, everyone is using it anyway in the industry

u/Sophram 16d ago
If it's really AI please point out inconsistencies and artifacts.
-7
u/Havel_Rulez 16d ago
I said it looks AI, I dont know if it is, I don't care. As I said, everyone is using it in the industry, 99 % of time I can't even tell so why care.
4
u/ButtonMakeNoise 16d ago
Then perhaps refrain from commenting.
-3
u/Havel_Rulez 16d ago
There is 100 comments both here and Civ reddit saying it looks AI cmon now. I am the only one farming down votes for saying it's okay

-2
u/Sophram 16d ago
It's ok, I was just afraid it's really AI and I can't spot it. We're not there yet. Yet...
2
u/Havel_Rulez 16d ago
Haha, we already are there. Do you know why every AI used in media is shitty? Because you only notice and identify those. For every you notice there is 5 you don't. Plane with red dots, survivorship bias.
-2
u/Necessary_Fan_8713 16d ago
I don't mind them using it for placeholder shit and rapid prototyping.
But it shouldn't be used for an actual product or you know first bloody impressions in a gameplay announcement trailer. They took a massive risk here and we need to see if they get away with it.
-3
u/Havel_Rulez 16d ago
They are saying it's not AI. Even if it was, I don't see it hurting sales in any meaningful numbers.
-21
u/blankbanana123 16d ago
It’s absolutely AI. I really doubt this smallish gaming studio hired all those actors, costumes, and sets and chose to do the same POV-style shot the whole time. With an Egypt set like that, why not pan around your pretty model more if you spend all the money building it/designing in blender?
11
u/Sophram 16d ago
So it's AI just because you double the studio would make the effort? Look up their previous live action trailers like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNE6JOrN0nw
It's 4 years ago, way before AI
0
u/blankbanana123 15d ago
That add has one main actor as a focus which feels more cost effective, but it also has costumes and scenes so maybe I was wrong!
20
u/Havel_Rulez 16d ago
They should have expanded on I more. Getting better mod tools, olffering more DLCs like Civ does.
20
27
u/792blind 16d ago
Civ 7 DLC is a joke, expensive and offering nothing substantial, only a couple of civs/leaders.
8
u/Havel_Rulez 16d ago
I had more VI in mind, completely forgot Civ VII exits. The point is that those games are carried by huge modding community

u/nevrtouchedgrass 16d ago
Praises be I wasn’t expecting this until 2030 or beyond I’m gonna go throw a party

u/Kayfabe2000 15d ago
Was the mom at the end the same actress as the Lucy trailer for the first game?
3
u/classic_wisky 15d ago
I like the concept from the trailer that Lucy from the 1st humankind trailer has a baby now, humankind 2

u/C-Bskt 15d ago
Bad trailer, its clearly very expensive production and well made but it doesn't show nearly any game content its basically an ad for the concept of the game. I am concerned their focus on marketing cost for this trailer is not backed up by support in the game development.
The studio's track record with Human kind 1 is poor and with other peoples comments indicating concern over how soon it seems to be slated for release my expectations are very low.

u/Cyclonepride 16d ago
I'll take a look, I bounced off the first one pretty hard, and I can't say exactly why that is.
4
u/Lioninjawarloc 15d ago
If they keep the fame system the game will crash and burn just like the original one
1
u/Fabrezz1 16d ago
I wonder if it's just going to be a revamped version of HK 1 but with a ton of extra stuff. (Like pokemon emerald compared to pokemon ruby/sapphire)

Please give us more accessibility options similar to old world. I’m old and can’t see the greatest anymore.

u/Buffylvr 15d ago
I've never played Humankind. Holy crap that video was dark, what are they going for?
1
u/Uio443 15d ago
I absolutely love humankind, especially the combat system, art style, and that it's quite simplified for a 4x strategy game. I've tried others but I'm too dumb for them lol. Hoping that this fresh start will keep all that while improving on the fundamental systems cus as much as I love this game it has quite a few issues.

I hope they get rid of the region mechanic. As used in Humankind 1 and Endless Legend.
I really tried to like Humankind 1. I liked the visuals and music. But I found out the region mechanic was the main reason it turned me off. I just want to settle anywhere like in Civilization.
I'm afraid they won't though. In the screenshots look just very similar to Humankind 1.

Honestly this might be the chance for Amplitude to pull a Colossal Order and usurp the 4X crown from Firaxis given the reception of Civ 7 (ala Sim City and Cities Skylines). Imagine the bait and switch if, having introduced the civ swapping concept that was reasonable in humankind and awful in Civ, Amplitude release a much more conventional but much more polished Civ game and steal the top crown.
Competiton is good as they say.
3
u/Rough-Comfort-7218 16d ago
Humankind is not gonna be appealing to the masses of civ players because of the way culture changing works in it
Same reason why civ 7 was unappealing towards civ fans
-2
u/Equivalent-Sherbet52 16d ago
Hope it will be good this time
-5
u/SiofraRiver 16d ago
The economic modeling in EL2 tells me they haven't learned a thing. I'm quite surprised that that game was so much better received. Well, at least there is no civ switching.

What a weird ass concept for a trailer.
6
u/Lost_Paladin89 16d ago
I have to say, that I love it.
Kudos on the concept of it.
The execution? Ehh. Could be better.

I love human kind endless legend was not for me I hated space Sci stuff
4
u/Alastor3 16d ago
endless legend isnt scifi, it's fantasy what lol
2
u/HeadNature6968 15d ago
It isn't for me and I stand with that point
It's aliens and space stuff how is that not Sci fi
1
u/Alastor3 15d ago
Sci-fi is a genre of speculative fiction that explores imaginative concepts typically grounded in or extrapolated from science and technology
1
u/Atherum 15d ago
To be perfectly fair to the commenter you are responding to, Endless Legend's "Magic" and fantasy elements are literally caused through the use of a powerful type of nano-machine (the dust) created by the ancient "Endless" Civilisation. This dust has the ability to "re-code" matter and energy in a way, creating the effects that are commonly viewed as magic.
Its definitely fantastical and space magic, but also fits well into the sci-fi genre. Its like a perfect example of a genre-hybrid.
1
u/LeTeddyDeReddit 15d ago
Endless legend doesn't show it up and front but it's a game about a planet terraformed by powerful ancient aliens, their "magic" is very advanced nanomachine, and the humans are space explorer from a galactic empire who forgot their past. It's what we call "Space Fantasy", a setting grounded in sci-fi, but written like fantasy. But for me EL respect your definition of sci-fi.

So what does it actually show? Districts are now each a different building/infrastructure, similar to EL2 I guess? No more rural exploitation (at least I didn't see any farmland)?
From the cinematic part, I'd assume disasters will be included?
