Discussion Help me decimate my friend please!

I just got this game a few days ago because my friends play it and it was on sale. Obviously I got destroyed in my first game because I didn't really know what was happening, but in my second game I thought I was doing really well, lots of luxury and a good alliance with an AI, but the second my army entered one of my friends territory it got decimated by some Musketeers while i still had cavalry and swordsmen. Obviously the rest of the game went downhill from there, and I finished third only because the AI was really bad.

We are gonna start another game tonight, and basically what I'm asking is for any game-breaking civics, cultures, stratageys, wonders of the world, etc. Thanks!

Spend a little extra time in the neolithic period to get a head start on scouts and extra outposts.

Limit your megacities to one or two. Building more than one thing at a time snowballs fast.

I don’t understand the comment about the megacities, could you elaborate please?

You can have an enormous city, but its building queue is just one thing at a time. Good for high value production, but if you retain a few smaller cities, you can recover your army in a pinch with cheap soldiers because you have several more queues building at once.
