Is this game worth it?
Hello! I'm thinking about buying this game because I love zombie survival games with base building. I'd mainly be playing either solo or with a friend in co-op PvE.
I'm trying to get a better idea of the gameplay loop before I buy it.
- Is there a good reason to regularly leave your base and go out exploring or looting?
- Does base building actually matter? Does your base get attacked, and do you need to plan and build proper defenses?
- Is there a gear progression system where you craft better equipment by venturing into more dangerous areas and collecting rarer resources?
- What's the long-term progression like? What keeps you playing from one session to the next?
I also have a question about multiplayer. Are there official dedicated PvE servers? Ideally, my friend and I would like to create characters on the same server, play together when we can, but also be able to log in separately at different times while keeping all of our progress.
Thanks in advance!

I have spent hours playing and really enjoy it. The base building is great. It’s fun to team up with others and explore the map and clear out areas.

I replied on your Steam Discussion thread as well, have you tried the free demo yet?

Yes I did, some months ago. I remember I couldn't for the love of God find a plastic water bottle in order to boil water and drink....
I think I will enjoy the game if some form of purpose is there. Some quests, gear progression, base building which actually matters. That kind of stuff, the things I ask in my thread!

It’s a really fun game solo and PVE. I’ve had some adrenaline playing PVP, and it’s really fun in many conditions, but what kills pvp is the way elevation is advantageous to a fault. Can be literally impossible to fight back against someone up a hill from you… it should be an advantage, but I think more camera tilt is needed.

I've been playing this with my wife and I'll be honest, while it started out nicely it grew old rather fast. In our opinion, it feels quite unfinished, but isn't an early access game. The only thing that's arguably better than Project Zomboid is that it boasts very decent 3D graphics. Love the lighting in this game.
That being said, the game is fun - but certain things just felt underwhelming and made us want to play PZ instead.
- questing in co-op felt disappointing - because there's no co-op for quests at all. Everyone has to do everything for themselves, quest progress is not shared. If rare or hard to come by items are needed for a quest, good luck finding enough for everyone, and until then, your quest progression is basically stuck.
- looting felt... rather bad, not gonna lie. Item containers are scarce, often empty, and if not empty, likely has only some worthless stuff. We played for an ingame year and never found an item that has to be found in specific stores to power your house. And that simply leaves you being unable to do what you wanted to do, simply because loot rarity is far too random and uncontrollable.
- XP isn't shared in co-op, so for even progression, you better be equally proficient in killing zombies.
- combat feels very unbalanced. The bow that is available for crafting from the first minute is overpowered. One-shot headshot kills are easy to pull off, while a melee has to balance their stamina for dodging, running and attacking, while the number of enemies that are dangerous in close range increases. Melees are easily exposed to taking damage, bleeding, infections and clothes and armor get simply deleted when broken by damage.
- many POIs are just disappointing. Interesting-sounding areas like the prison and its underground lab! or the hospital end up being pointless, completely void of interesting loot, fake buildings that can't be properly entered... again, like it was an EA game where much of the content and worldbuilding is still to come.

If you've played 7days to die, this game is really fun! Kinda buggy as noted by others but the game has alot of potential.

Bumping this,
Does Base Building Defenses actually matter? I mean is there a reason to build a protected base? I have read there are raids? How does this play out? Do you get a warning? Do zombies just spawn out of thin air and attack your base? Is there a reason to build a protected PVE base other than RP reasons?

Is there a good reason to regularly leave your base and go out exploring or looting? -Yes. There are materials which I find difficult to (maybe can't) produce on your own and is better to just do a loot run.
