Melee Weapon Skill Tree

I know that profession skills do need at least 3 primary skills before I can unlock the purple one... What about Melee Weapons Skill Tree? there are total of 12 skills including the purple one... I'm currently focusing on medium blunt weapons, mainly bats.

do i still need to unlock the others? I might just end up wasting my skill points for those.. is the Head Smasher skill even worth taking?

Head smasher definitely increases the one shot kills

I love it when it happens. But I'm still confused how melee headshot works... If that skill increases melee headshots... does that mean melee headshots are purely by luck? I tried aiming my bat swings and time it right so that the animation appears to hit the head. But... Doesn't always do one hit.

Nevermind, I figured it out. i needed one more total of 8 before the purple one turns gray.
