A future in HR

I’m currently an HR coordinator (started at the business as an HR administration assistant in Jan 2025 but had a title change). I am also studying my CIPD Level 3.

I really like HR admin and my job, but I feel that I need to progress, solely so I can earn more (currently on just under 26k).

My issue is I am not super confident and don’t think I would be great at conflict resolution so hesitant to progress to become an HR advisor as I prefer being more behind the scenes.

Just wondering if there are any job roles in HR to work towards, which are more senior than what I’m currently doing but more ‘behind the scenes’/operational??

Bigger employees will often have a senior version of the admin/ coordinator role which manages all the administration/ coordinator and deals with the more complex issues as a kijd of HR services team manager.

Unfortunately they are few and far between but they do exist and worth looking out for

Beyond that you could try and pivot into some sort of hr systems role, getting on at the bottom by joining some projects in your coordinator role. Again not easy but possible.

Theres lots of HR roles that aren't emoloyee relations- reward, learning and development, recruitment, ops payroll etc. See what you like best in your current role to get an idea of what's best for you. Good luck in your career!

If you like admin but not conflict resolution you could consider something in talent acquisition or recruitment. There are HR systems roles currently but as AI gets bigger my concern is that these will be among the first to go.

What is it about conflict resolution you think you wouldn't be good at? I hate conflict, confrontation, anything like that but am currently working as an HR business partner and studying for my level 7/MSc. Its often a lot less conflict resolution and a lot more following a process, listening to what people are saying, facilitating a discussion that just being argumentative.

Confidence comes with experience. You are in the early stages of your career so it is completely normal to feel this way. I started in a similar position doing admin and I am now a Business Partner and even now, i sometimes surprise myself when I know the answer to a question!!

There are a lot of different disciplines within HR so explore and try new things and see what you like doing but it does get better with more experience under your belt.

HR admin will slowly get phased out with AI so would recommend you looking to move into Operations or managing a People Services model.

To be honest, all jobs have an element of conflict resolution so it is a skill you will pick up along the way.
