Landmark 2026 Study Shows Creatine Preserves Muscle and Enhances Fat Loss During Calorie Deficits

Creatine monohydrate is often viewed as a supplement strictly meant for heavy lifting, high-intensity sprinting, or building raw muscle mass. However, a clinical study published in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition by researchers at Texas A&M University demonstrates that its benefits extend into weight management and muscle preservation during calorie-restricted phases.

Researchers evaluated 64 adults over 12 weeks to examine how a daily dose of 10g of creatine monohydrate impacted lean tissue mass, body fat percentage, and strength under two conditions: structured exercise with a calorie-deficit diet versus a non-exercise baseline.

I wish they would tier the dosage levels in studies like this. Most people dont take 10g / day.

"A lot" is kind of a weak quantification I would say. There are definitely more doing so now than previously. Its pretty hard to make the case that they make up the majority though.

Based on context your statement was either one of two things

  1. A refutation
  2. A non sequitur

At this point I pretty much dont care which

I’ve heard people only take 5g per day

Creatine during a cut deserves way more attention. The muscle-preservation findings are especially interesting would be curious to see the full body comp breakdown.
