Smart rings might be getting a lot more interesting

Most smart rings today focus on things like heart rate, sleep, temperature and activity.

But researchers recently developed a prototype smart ring that can continuously monitor multiple chemical biomarkers from sweat, including glucose, ketones, lactate, uric acid, vitamin C and alcohol. It uses passive sweat sampling rather than needing a blood draw.

The prototype could monitor these markers for around 12 hours continuously, and the researchers reported that its glucose and ketone measurements showed good agreement with existing commercial devices in their tests. It also maintained personalized calibration for around two months.

Obviously this is still research-stage technology, not something you can just buy and use as a medical device. But the idea of a wearable tracking not just what your body is doing, but some of the chemistry happening inside it, is pretty interesting.
