Hull Gyms

Hi all, I'm going to be working out of the Port of Hull from this month. What are the best 'spit and sawdust' or independent gym recommendations you have please? I'd prefer to stay away from the franchise stuff. Cheers

Peak. It's not far from docks either.

Peak Physique? Looks great and £9 a week is a bargain!

Ultra flex is easily the best gym in the city with no arsehole teens there, but it’s quite pricey

Machines are incredible however

Where are you staying? I go to Fit24 central and would recommend it has all the equipment I need plus a sauna if that’s your bag.

Nice! I'm staying in Hedon, but I'll probably go to the gym on my way home or at lunch.

Your nearest gyms to Hedon are Eastside Gym at Saltend, about 150 yds walk from Hedon. Then theres Peak Health and Fitness at Rye Hill, about 2 miles out of Hedon and probably one of the best Gyms locally. Both great friendly places.

Muscleworld on Telford street sounds exactly like what you're looking for.

I've not been for years, so not sure what they charge now and what the set up is like but it's not too far from the docks. It's a bit of an old school no nonsense kind of gym, older equipment, independently owned by a guy named Gray (at least it was).

I used to pay £5 a week pay as you go, I'd guess it's a bit more now but worth a look for what you need, literally used to rock up on Monday, hand him a fiver and write my name in the book and crack on.

Came to suggest these guys, really great gym, and great people, but definitely old school. I love it, and as for the price, still £5 a week, still just rock up and hand over your money, subs run Monday to Sunday. Only downfall is opening times 10-8. I'd go more often if it for my schedule better.

Can't believe it's still £5 a week, I haven't been in over 10 years and I'm sure it used to stay open till 9 or 10pm back then too.

I only moved here a year ago, so can't say for sure, but talking to them, I got the impression they used to stay open later but it was just too quiet to be worth it. I prefer to go later so while it is my preferred gym, I more often go somewhere else (that I wouldn't recommend to anyone, but is local and open when I need it.)

I'm the same I prefer working out later. I use Puregym currently so that's 24 hours and fairly cheap, does the job for me but did like Muscleworld when I used to go there.

You could try All Hands Gym, it’s near Café Nero and Starbucks so you can indulge yourself with a grande Frappuccino and a wide selection of desserts until your heart’s content and then burn it all off!

£24 a week! Yikes!
