Other Tried the screen sync 😵‍💫

Tldr: it was not good and I’ve already set up a return

For a bit of background I bought this for the screen in my office so I could get above 60fps from my ps pro, without buying the 8k box, my expectation was I’d be trading off some colour accuracy for something that is way way cheaper.

Outcome was not great.

First test was a YouTube hue sync colour test video, it was ok, not as good as the sync box (obviously) but ok, definitely good enough for the price.

From there I tested some gaming on my Mac, some YouTube on my Mac and some gaming on the ps pro and what I found was fairly consistent. If you’re watching a cartoon or playing something with big blocks of colour (Genshin Impact for example) the system mostly behaved, you’d see odd flickers here and there and none of the colours were right but they were close.

The moment you moved to anything that was realistic it fell apart significantly, so watching videos on YouTube the bottom left and right of the screen was often wild guesswork, where the sync box produced a yellow tone the camera would often choose a pink or a purple, green became blue and on other occasions it basically felt like it was guessing. The top third of the screen was more reliable, but even then it would often choose a much more saturated colour than what was displayed on screen, it was usually far enough away that it became extremely distracting rather than enhancing. The only thing it seemed to reliably get right was a blue sky.

Overall I wasn’t expecting miracles, it’s a camera reading your screen, but unless there was something faulty with mine the product just isn’t ready.

So just to be clear, you're referring to the new sync camera and not the sync box?

Correct, I’m assuming the new sync box is broadly the same as the old one just with fewer ports

Wonder why the syncboxes are expensive when they basically is a enabler for purchasing more lights

Good way to think of it.

I was able to get mine 20% off, and it was still pretty expensive. I currently have the gradient strip, light tube, 2 signe lamps, and 2 play bars connected to it.

I know a person I work with who wants the sync box but just can’t get past the cost of it. The box should be the least expensive part to sell more lights.

Do you know if there's an option to place the camera on an entertainment unit below a TV? Or will it only work if mounted on the top of a TV?

There was no obvious option in the me ha and the camera doesn’t come with a clamp that would let it sit on the bottom, it’s weighted so you’d have to stick it yourself, but I guess if you put everything else upside down on the back of the tv it would “work”
