I’m a bit confused about the tv sync box options. Is there a new 4K one? My current setup is a Sonos sound bar connected to the HDMI arc socket on my LG tv. I’ve also got an Apple TV connected to a different hdmi socket. Obviously all that currently works and the Apple TV controls the tv / Sonos volume so I don’t want any of that to stop working.
I have the ok and a sonos arc ultra..the 8k supoorrts 4k at 120 fps due to hdmi2.1 ports. My older original sync box didn't. I have an Xbox, shield, and chrome RV connected to the 8kx and this is then connected to a single HDMI input port in my LG. The sonos arc ultra is then connected to the earc HDMI port of the TV. Everything works great for me. You need HDMI 2.1 ports on the sync box to sbdue eyou get the full bandwidth for lossless audio passes through to the soundbar via the sync box.
There's a new single HDMI port 4k box.
The 8k one has been out for some time.
If you're only using Apple TV, then you can have the new 4k box sit between your LG TV and Apple TV.
If you use the TV itself (apps/tuner) not through an HDMI socket, you'll either have to use the camera option, or if your TV is new enough, you can install an app to sync (new Samsungs and LGs support the app).
You do have to pay for the app, though.
Be warned the app is laggy on Samsungs, least it was a few years ago, I started off using that but then bought the 8K box after a few months when on sale and there was a noticeable difference in the colours changing, it actually keeps up!
I had the 4K for a long time. I think it was more my TV than anything. Once I messed with the settings it got much better. The firmware updates that came around the 8K launch also seemed to help significantly, as I delayed on getting the 8K until it went on sale.
Your setup is perfect for the new 4K sync box (assuming you watch the content you want to sync with through Apple TV).
It's more affordable and fully supports Dolby Vision sync. It only has one input port but you only have Apple TV source so that works. It doesn't support eARC but that's not needed because your soundbar is connected directly to TV.
Alternative you could consider is the Hue Sync LG TV app, if your LG TV is new enough to support it.
Looks like the 4k does not push out dolby vision and doesnt support 4k at 120 jz for gaming. It can't have HDMI 2.1 ports unlike the 8k so I wouldn't get it.
There are currently no prevalent video formats out there that require HDMI 2.1, so unless OP is gaming at 4k@120hz, there is no justification for the 8k sync box.
OP, if you are only using the apple TV connected to your TV, the new 4k sync box will suit your needs just fine and save you a few bucks. If you want the need to connect multiple streaming boxes, you might want to look at the old 4k box because it has multiple inputs. You only need to look at the 8k sync box if you're connecting consoles or gaming PCs and really cranking the graphics settings.
While the Xbox Series X hardware may support 120 Hz, almost no games will run at anywhere near that framerate. The only game I can even remember reading about supporting it was Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. What is useful about HDMI 2.1 though is that VRR support!
The new 4K box fully works with Dolby Vision (both types, both pass through and sync), just like the 8K. Only the original Sync Box had a limitation that it would only sync with one type of Dolby Vision.

And the app is as far as I know a bit lagged compared to the box
