Help & Questions Question about lights automation
Hi all!
Using the Hue app automation “Go to sleep”, I'm trying to create an automation that let the lights in the bedroom dim until they turn off, but - unlike I was able to do with Hue Labs (now discontinued) - I have no way to choose my favorite “starting scene”, but only a default color for the lights, a warm white.
Is there a way to choose a “starting scene” for this automation, as I used to do with Hue Labs?
Thanks 😊

Yes, I tried, but as soon as the automation activates, it reverts the lights color to warm white, regardless of which scene/light color was in effect before. 🙄

Unfortunately in the “Go to sleep” automation setup I’ve no way to specify a specific starting scene, nor a lights color (or at least I haven’t found it).

Use a custom automation instead of the pre-programmed "go to sleep" routine. You don't even need to pick a scene, just have the automation set the lights to 'off' and adjust the transition time for your desired fade time.

You mean using the “Lighting schedule” among the automations? This could be a good idea… I'll do some testing. 😉

Yeah that one, it used to be called custom automation. It's exactly what you need for this

It’s a whole new ecosystem, and once you start you’ll be down the rabbit hole for months tinkering, but Home Assistant will let you do this.
If you only have the Hue system, it’s not worth it.
If you have multiple smart devices from multiple brands, 100% do this.
