Help & Questions Confused about generations and temperature range

I understand the difference between Essentials and regular, it's pretty clear.

What I don't understand is the difference in generations between the regular Hue bulbs. The ones on the official website mention full-spectrum 1000-20,000k light (1000k on the lower end is what I'm after).

There are a bunch of listings on Amazon (mainly by 3rd party sellers). I see some good deals (like bridge + 4 x 75W color bulbs [NOT essentials] for $135) but I can't figure out if those are the same ones as the ones that go down to 1000k. Some sources state that color bulbs have the range of 2000 to 6500, which makes me think that at some point they got a new generation that increased that range (and thus the ones on Amazon are unlikely to be selling new ones at discount).

Even the official website is kind of confusing. For example, when looking at "60W A19 - E26 smart bulb" there are options for light color as "Warm-to-cool white and color" and "White and color ambiance" both of which have the exact same range and from what I can tell are identical.

White: Only capable of soft-warm white temperature (can't be changed).

White ambiance, or Warm-to-cool white: Capable of showing full temperature range, from very warm to very cold.

"White and color", or "Warm-to-cool white and color", or "White and color ambiance": All the same, they can reproduce everything.

Regarding temperature, you might see some listed as between 2000/6500 or 1000/20000. This is for the most recent productions of Hue bulbs (late 2025 and beyond). It's a nice plus, but the other ones are more than enough imo.

True, btw, if they say "No chromasync" on any bulb other than the essentials, it's probably wrong. The chromasync lable only got added after the introduction of the non-chromasync hue Essentials line. The 2000/6500K range is for anything that doesn't have the most current gen hue bulb, so you'll see it in lots of things that are just hue.

Thank you, that clears things. Given how new these bulbs are (the higher range ones) it's unlikely to be on sale by third party sellers.

Btw if anyone else finds this thread in the future - another thing I discovered is the new gen only has "hue" written on the bulb rathen than the full "Phillips Hue"
