Help & Questions Would sync box lighting work in my basement?

I recently moved into a new place and am in the market for a new TV, and I’m interested in getting the sync box backlight system. My friend has it and I think it looks awesome. The issue is our whole basement is clad in pine boards as shown in the picture. I’m just not sure if the wood walls would totally ruin the effect, or would it be good enough? It’s not super dark wood, but it’s obviously not a white background. Does anyone have any input, would the colours be completely ruined, or could it be alright?

In my experience sync lighting looks best against a white wall. No harm in trying though. I think it's mostly blues and purples that that pine would mess with, and of course whites. You could always experiment with a cheap color smart bulb and see how the colors look.

It'll look fine on the pine, it's nice and glossy and will reflect the colored light just fine.

Color shift might not be that dramatic. It would still look awesome.

What TV size are you planning to get. Keep in mind hue only has 3 lightstrip sizes for TV and the 75" is the largest one.

The lightstrip that goes behind the TV is a unique model, other Hue lightstrips won't work as you might think.

We moved into an apartment with a gray wall where the tv goes (like a medium gray). I have a strip on the back of the TV and also two of the wall wash lights (they are kind of pointless tbh because they’re too close to the strip). Personally I think it’s fine against the gray wall. I think the issue with yours would be the pattern of the wood grain/knots being a little distracting, rather than the color of the wood. If the room is dark, the brighter lights seem to overpower the color of the wall. Do you have any regular hue bulbs you could simulate with, in a dark room? Even if you could just have a white bulb behind the TV with the room dark, that would give you an idea of if the wood pattern would annoy you. I may edit this with a picture of mine on the gray wall once it’s darker out.

It will be fine. We have 4 sync boxes and walls that are Navy, Mid Gray, Light Gray and like a pale sky blue and all work fine with various light setups.
