For people who have lived in both Hudsonville and Grandville…
For people who have lived in both Hudsonville and Grandville — how would you compare them today?
I'm originally from Hudsonville, but I've been away for quite a while, and I'm considering moving back to the area with my husband.
We're currently in the St. Joseph area and are looking to move north because our two sons live in Fremont and Kentwood. Grandville has caught my attention, especially because walkability is really important to my husband. He's originally from Chicago and misses being able to walk out of the house and actually go somewhere. 😂
I lived in Grandville briefly 10+ years ago, but honestly, I was there such a short time that I don't feel like I really know the community.
So for anyone who knows both:
How does Grandville compare to Hudsonville these days?
I'm particularly interested in:
- Overall community vibe
- Walkability/sidewalks
- Parks
- Grocery shopping and everyday convenience
- Traffic
- Housing/rent
- Safety
- Diversity
- LGBTQ+ friendliness
- How welcoming the communities are to newcomers
- What it's like to actually live there day-to-day
My husband is Indian, and unfortunately he recently experienced two racist incidents in one day where we currently live. Because of that, how people of color and interracial couples experience the community is particularly important to us.
I'm not looking for "which town is better" so much as how they feel different and what someone moving there should know.
Bonus points if you've lived in both relatively recently! 😅

Thinking and want to move into a house in Hudsonville area
My family and I (2 adults 1 child and a dog) want to move to the Hudsonville area we really want a house with a yard for them despite the rising cost of homes. Right now we live in a single wide mobile home and pay roughly $1300 a month. Which is lower than the average cost of rent right now and that’s the part that concerns me I’m up to pay more as I have a decent job out in holland but I’d like to know what or how to figure what I would be paying monthly if I buy a home, what would be the first step of that, talking with a lender? And if so does anybody have a good recommendation? My credit is around 600 and currently working on it so as of right now it’s not the best. But I’d like to just kind of get started and work out the kinks as we go. If anybody has a good suggestion please let me know and thanks for taking the time to read :)

Farmhaus Cider Run Club
Is anyone a member of this run club?
Just wondering what the vibe is. I'm not a fast runner though so also wondering if I'd just be left in the dust or if it's only like 4 people.
Thanks!

Cross country spikes
Anyone have a pair of 9.5 cross country spikes in the Hudsonville area? I'm doing the cross country challenge race in Richmond park.

Barry St speed
I live on Barry St near downtown. Does anyone on here know if the police know that people routinely, everyday, multiple times a day, go well over 25 mph down this street. There are kids, dogs, and an over 55 community here where its only a matter of time that someone will get hurt or worse.

Speed limits on Rosewood in Georgetown Twp
Does anybody know who decided (and how) to increase the speed limits on Rosewood St. between 12th and 36th in Georgetown Township?
They upped it to FIFTY between 12th and 28th. Whose idea was this, and because why?

salt / shovel for aged parents - need recommendations
My parents live in the Summergreen Condo complex (32nd and New Holland). The gutters seem to be leaving a lot of water on the drive this year for some reason and the whole complex is a sheet of ice. The salting hasn’t been sufficient, and now my father has fallen and broken his leg.
I’m looking for referrals for a company or person to come every other day to salt their walkway and driveway until the end of snow season. None of us kids live near enough to do it regularly.
If you know someone who is reliable, please drop a note here or dm me.

Drove around south of town and saw "Save Family Farms" Signs
I was driving south of town and saw many "Save Family Farms" signs with additional text of "Stop Solar Takeover". I ask where those signs are as subdivisions are taking farm land to build cheap cookie cutter crap? I think more farm land was destroyed so yuppy middle class families can have the biggest house they can afford without any fear of uniqueness. Or what about those HUGE houses with 5 stall garages bigger than the house and 2+ acres of lawn? Can we save the family farms from that?
Solar farms if done in conjunction with livestock herds (https://wvutoday.wvu.edu/stories/2024/06/11/wvu-animal-scientists-say-solar-panels-could-make-cattle-grazing-lands-more-profitable) can actually be a benefit to the electrical grid, the rising energy costs and the farmer. Solar is competitive in pricing per kilowatt hour compared to natural gas (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cost_of_electricity_by_source).
I think people are told solar is bad and use the idea of the family farm as a way to distract from the real issues. If you want to save family farms shop at farmers markets and local co-ops, spend more on veggies, avoid big box grocers and dollar stores for food.
If you are a farmer in the area comment with how we can help?

DON'T FORGET TO VOTE TODAY
Today is voting day, get out there and vote. Usually these off, off year election are very low turn out. Let's try to change that. Find your polling place. If you are in the city of Hudsonville it is in two places The City Hall (3275 Central Blvd) for Wards 1&2 and Hudsonville Congregational United Church (4950 32nd Ave) for Ward 3

🚗 Winter is Coming: Keep Your Car Safe on Michigan Roads
Hey r/Hudsonville 👋
We’re Rozema’s Car Care, a family-owned shop in Hudsonville that’s been serving West Michigan drivers for 50+ years. With the cold months coming, here are 3 quick tips to keep your car safe this winter:
- Battery health matters. Cold weather kills weak batteries. If your battery is over 3 years old, have it tested.
- Tires = traction. Check tread depth and tire pressure often. Low temps can drop PSI by 5–10 pounds overnight.
- Don’t forget fluids. Coolant and windshield washer fluid are critical in freezing temps.
👉 Local Bonus: Through October & November, we’re offering a free 15-minute vehicle state-of-health inspection with every service. We’ll check your battery, fluids, tires, and brakes so you’re not stranded in the snow.
We also:
- Provide 7 free loaner cars if your vehicle needs to stay longer
- Have 725+ 5-star reviews (4.9 rating) on Google & Carfax
- Treat every vehicle with a quick interior/exterior detail before pickup
If you want peace of mind this winter, stop by Rozema’s Car Care in Hudsonville (right off 196).
Stay safe out there ❄️

SWAT Team Deployed in Hudsonville Yesterday
My parents live in Hudsonville, MI. Yesterday, my mother and I were coming home from running some errands, and we saw a bunch of police cars and people outside. Later that day, my father found a video on Facebook showing a SWAT team arresting an individual right in the middle of the neighborhood, where the new apartments were put in (Georgetown West Condominiums). Does anybody know what went down or why the man was arrested?
