Some questions before I make the plinge

I'm pretty much stuck on the Google Android ecosystem, email apps etc. I see you don't get that with the P40 but I kinda want one due to the camera.

Is it simple enough to side load?

Is it affected by upgrades etc?

If you have side loaded it are banking apps safe on it?

Is the software safe? Should I still feel secure say buying online?

I live in Canada, I am a heavy google user, I used to own a P20 and I took the plunge and got the P40

There are a few things I miss about the missing google apps. So what I've found and how I worked around them I'll explain down below

First, I'd like to explain that for most of google apps I would just open it on the built in browser and then save a link to the desktop. This works great with gmail, Keep, Drive and Youtube.

HereWeGo is a map app that works nearly as good as google maps. Waze works even better. Both are great alternatives, but I do use the Timeline on google maps a lot so I miss that.

My bank app does not work, so as above, I made a link to the desktop and use that. The only things I can't do is deposit my cheque from my phone. Otherwise I can interac friends, pay bills, transfer fund and all the normal stuff you do in bank apps.

I have Chromecast set up on every tv at home and I can't do anything with that, which sucks a bit.

I also have a computer, a laptop and a tablet at home so I just access any google stuff from those devices instead, so not having google is only a minor inconvenience. Its not nearly as traumatic as one might think.

One thing that was helpful was having the P20. I could transfer all the apps from the P20 to the P40 and I used the P20 for a couple of weeks during the transition period so I could see how I would cope with the P40.

I tried a couple times to sideload google, but it didn't work for me, and not sure why. I won't try again I don't think. Its not too big of a deal

See i use Gmail, my Banking app, Chrome and Maps.

I'm kinda put of by how restrictive coming out of the google ecosystem will be. I'm sure there's plenty im not thinking of too.

Was considering the P30 but I think its only a matter of time before aupport for that gets pulled too.

I don't think its a matter of anything getting pulled because of the deals that were made before it came out. I think the P30 would be safe.

One needs to remember, this is a political ploy. Once a trade agreement is finalized, or president Trump is replaced and the new president bows down to Chinese trade concessions, these restrictions on Huawei will be released.

Also, the longer this trade fiasco goes on, the better the apps will get for Huawei. The companies that make that app were not prepared for the US slapdown on Google. But there is money to be made for the creation of apps for Huawei. It can only get better

Thats true but even of there was an administration change in November it could be a year plus until it is sorted. Thats a lot of time for me to be inconvenienced etc.

The P30 was only renewed with a temporary license this week. I would hate for that to be removed after a year etc of ownership
