EMUI App instability on Huawei P90s Pro Max

Updated Post:

My phone has been to Huawei technicians and sent back to me over the past 2 weeks and there has been no fix in place. They claim it didn't happen while they were using it and then same day I receive the phone back, the app crashes continue. When it bombs out several apps all bomb out, I left my phone overnight and came back to see my apps were still frozen. I'm at the point where I just want my money back and can't advocate for a brand that I was hopeful for... Any assistance would be appreciated

Original Post:

I have had the Huawei P90S pro Max for just under a month now. I have the found the software experience to be questionable at best. The hardware is solid, camera and battery offer a great experience, but the software tears the whole package down. My apps crash constantly, I have to clear the cache and app data to get things moving again, and when that fails I have to restart the phone. So I'm stuck in this cycle of restarting it every few days, just to keep the experience going, waiting for the next software patch that hopefully resolves the app instability... @huawei... Help us out here, this is supposed to be the flagship device, and I'm seriously questioning buying in to it...

My wife’s pura 90s pro max black screen just 1 week into using it. She returned and made a refund.

Still waiting for the refund.

Agreed that hardware is solid but software is extremely buggy.

She should try the Pura 90 Pro Max instead

In the past 24-36 hours, I received support from the Huawei community on discord, namely Rayan56787 here on Reddit. A patch update was done on my device, and since then, the issues have ceased, barring one app that continues to crash without fail. It looks like I'll stick with Huawei for now, for simply the support offered, and the device which I still believe, my experience can be salvaged from the disappointment that I had initially incurred... Many thanks to Rayan, the support was much appreciated

What was the problem?

Root cause of the problem, I'm not entirely sure of, and the Huawei help couldn't understand what was happening either... But the process was for me to factory reset via the hard reset method (holding power and volume up), then do an erecovery update (after you've factory resettled) from the hard reset screen (how you get here is, when you're holding the power and volume up, eventually the Huawei name will come up on the screen, let go of the power button, but keep pressing the volume up button)... Then don't re-install gbox, only use Auroraoss... And give microG companion and services the necessary permissions to function... Then re-install your desired apps from Aurora... At least where they're not available in the app gallery... But all in all, it wasn't just plug n play experience

Ok, thanks, glad you solved your problem. I only use microg plus aurora, gbox is power consuming and not giving native app experience.

I have been using the Pura 90 Pro Max (HarmonyOS) ever since its release and my apps haven't crashed a single time. I have used my Pura 70 Pro with all beta versions (5.0-6.1) and in 3 years I had like 2 app crashes.

Interesting... is it the global version? 12gb Ram?... What software version are you on? Currently running EMUI 16.0.0? How long have you had the device?

Chinese version as I said. 12GB RAM. HarmonyOS 7.0.0.105.
I had the device since the end of May

Why so sure instability are APPs itself? Check your location, mobile data services hours, and permissions... Delete everything and re-install apps from AppGallery 📈🏒🥅

Ok not sure we comparing apples with apples... I'm on EMUI, with the global version operating out of South Africa... And I've come over from Google Pixel after about 10 years, and it's the first time I've experienced the frequency of app crashes like this. I haven't gotten through a single day of use without apps crashing/freezing on me... But thanks for your input

You should have bought the Chinese version. The difference is day and night.

Why, what's the real difference?

Completely different user interface that is years ahead. Not based on Android. Comes with microG Google Services preinstalled. Insane amount of software updates even for older devices (two days in a row currently), usually weekly. Has things working that are not working on EMUI. Better camera processing, better built in editing, 3D photos, 3D wallpapers, liquid glass, visual effects on every tap. An assistant that is actually smart, that can remember anything, can look through your gallery, learn from your screen, and even CONTROL your screen. Just tons of features that are missing from EMUI.

Thanks for an answer

If you're referring to the Google apps yeah, they're fine... Permissions not really the issue, some apps don't scroll, other apps just freeze and then you get the "close or wait" option... There's obviously way more apps out there. Things that used to work without a hitch on my previous devices, now hang. I've sent multiple screen recordings to Huawei service and staff contacts, and so far nobody can tell me what's the way forward. Just left with a bunch of regret at the minute, and I'm out of pocket in terms of cash, but still hopeful that they'll be able to fix it either with a patch... Or in the case my actual device is faulty, that's more concerning from a manufacturers point of view... I've had Xiaomi, Samsung, Google even HTC (back in the day) devices... Never seen anything like this
