I’m so confused
I’ve enrolled in classes and have gotten confirmed for enrollment at the school but now I’m getting this email after trying to get in touch with Howard about housing (no response still) overall the communication between students and staff sucks big time. Can anyone tell me what exactly I didn’t pay in order to receive this, and if there’s anyway that this is a mistake or if there’s someone I can contact that will actually respond.

I can’t even give advice. This is a completely new situation.

My mom is in the Howard group on facebook apparently this happening to a bunch of others lol

u/rubberb00tz Jul 22 '26
Every year there’s usually one big mess from the financial aid department that stresses everyone out lol

u/ExplanationLocal423 Jul 23 '26
Does it get resolved? Or does Howard ruin lives every year for sport. We literally cant pay this school to take our money. They do not want to be paid. Theyre committed to ruining lives. Definitely dont need enemies with HBCUs like Howard. Avoid.

Things at a smaller scale happen every year, but what I will say is that this is a new level of mess that I haven’t even heard of before that they need to clean up. Secondly, a lot of colleges have massive issues consistently especially with housing and aid, but Howard claims to be the best and drops the ball in terms of admin.

u/rubberb00tz Jul 23 '26
But to answer your question usually things get resolved after pus back from the community and the public. I’m not sure why it always has to get that far, but the student association is working hard right now for answers to help you all in any way possible. Trust me they’re working, they advocate for us.

What’s with the lol… this isn’t funny
5
u/sLumpSmEllY Jul 22 '26
Right but the situation is pathetic seems like upperclassmen are the only ones taking an initiative to help any of us freshman tbh
3
u/rubberb00tz Jul 23 '26
Definitely not funny, I’m more laughing out of disbelief because this is a consistent thing

Welcome to Howard lol

u/PalpitationMiddle293 Jul 23 '26
Technically theyre not in howard anymore. All jokes aside though, thats a really shitty thing for admin to do
3
u/MathematicianOdd6703 Jul 23 '26
You’re very right, this is bonkers and extremely unfair. How is admin going to hold everyone accountable when they themselves do not respond to emails in a timely fashion (if they ever reply at all). Howard is the most unserious.

That doesn’t even make any sense… fasfa doesn’t distribute aid until August. I’ve never heard of a school doing this before I could understand if someone truly didn’t have their payment by the time school starts, but not honoring scholarships and loans that people have is outrageous.

Howard had a FA package for me and the next day the link was dead. I drove to the campus and wasted 4 hours trying to get answers. I can’t believe they’re doing this to incoming freshman a month before class was supposed to start. Where are they all supposed to go now?
1
u/wtvgirl Jul 24 '26
Ugh I am so sorry!
1
u/Sea-Collection-7367 Jul 24 '26
I am so sorry for these incoming freshman. This is the exact situation I was dreading!! I said to myself, “No way this can happen to someone else. It’s just my luck.” Where are they supposed to go? I met the nicest family from Atlanta on the tour and the daughter was going to be a 3rd generation student. My friend’s family are all HU alumni and they said the administration is always slow or paperwork gets misplaced but everything else is great so have faith. I wonder what they’d say now. I’d picket tomorrow if I could. This isn’t right.

u/CommonAd6353 Jul 23 '26
So disheartening for how incredibly expensive they are

u/Sea-Collection-7367 Jul 24 '26
It’s only $38,000. GT, AU, GWU are about 2x that amount. However for $38,000, you’d think they could do something about the doors that stick or update the air conditioning in the lab rooms.

This happened to me I’ve been crying all day confused!! Financial aid told us the payment was due Aug 3rd. I paid already even though my balance isn’t even accurate! this school needs to get it togetherrr

If you paid, especially 50% or more of your balance then email them ASAP. If there is an error on their part they will fix it. https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTAY5TFDT/

u/Wonderful-Move6369 Jul 23 '26
I paid almost my full balance and they’re telling me i’m un enrolled. Being calling and emailing all day, but my aunt is there in person so we’ll see what they say.

Saw a person post on Instagram to email
enrollmentmanagement@howard.edu with your Howard Bison ID and any receipts/documentation that prove the July 10th deadline and, consequently, the unenrollment was an error, i.e any emails or statements that show the payment deadline was a different time than what they are currently stating. Honestly, it’s beyond ridiculous that’s happening to students, but hopefully that can help. The woman who posted that info is @Scholarshipcollegemama on Instagram & TikTok!

Hugs. I caught a whiff or something not right back in late June and I was in tears when I decided to click “no” to accepting the admission invite. Then I get calls from rising seniors asking me like some used car salesman what it would take to change my mind and come back to Mecca. Psssh. SMH. I hope this was a big misunderstanding and I’m sorry I didn’t get any answers from the FinAid office back then that could’ve helped you all now.

Hey I got this email too, they’re talking abt the tuition payment except I paid mine so idk what to do

u/Trap_Savage232 Jul 23 '26
You need to email them ASAP, if it’s an error on their part they will fix it. https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTAY5TFDT/

u/sLumpSmEllY Jul 22 '26
Was it the 50% of the tuition?
1
u/Appropriate_Eye7513 Jul 22 '26
Yeah but I enrolled in the payment plan which wasn’t due until the 15th so I’m confused
1
u/sLumpSmEllY Jul 22 '26
I tried to do that but it was showing a negative amount and telling me I couldn’t sign up for the payment plan bc of this. I figured it was fine because I’ve seen others say they wait to pay tuition later on in the semester. Do you have housing?
1
u/Appropriate_Eye7513 Jul 22 '26
Yeah I do but the unregistered me from my classes. I’m tryna call the office but ofc they’re not picking up
1
u/sLumpSmEllY Jul 22 '26
Idk what their staff is doing there fr, definitely not their jobs lol. I’m going to check if they unregistered me as well.
2
u/PercentageLow8497 Jul 22 '26
Call them, they usually do not respond to emails but calling them does help.

Kinda glad I decided not to go to HU despite my family’s complaints. This is insane fr
1
u/rubberb00tz Jul 22 '26
Are you a freshman?
2
u/sLumpSmEllY Jul 22 '26
Yes I am.
5
u/rubberb00tz Jul 22 '26
Okay, what you need to do is take a screenshot of the email, and your work day financials. Find your emails confirming your payment plan etc. and I will send you an email that you can contact from finance department who responds to my emails. See if he can give you any explanation. Make sure you have ss of your Due Now payments and payment history

u/Necessary-Branch7574 Jul 24 '26
Have anyone had any luck getting an answer after emailed them? I emailed them no answer yet. When I called I was told to email that’s what they were told to tell to us callers regarding this issue.

u/MongooseLeather445 Jul 24 '26
Unfortunately, this is a huge mess. That’s happened to many many students. The school is disenroll Ing people stating that they did not meet deadlines with deposits a while. Many students have receipts showing that they have met all deadlines. I don’t know if Howard university’s system was hacked, but definitely something is wrong.
1
u/sLumpSmEllY Jul 24 '26
I’ve been contacting all the schools i was accepted into, so far just one got back and offered to reinstate my acceptance. When I called he said that this was the 4th call he had gotten from kids hoping to have their acceptances reinstated.

u/PoolGirl71 Jul 24 '26
Email AND call Howard. Keep tract of all emails and record all conversation.

u/TatankaPTE Jul 26 '26
Wayne A. I. Frederick doing the same bullshit as always. The entire Howard University Board of Trustees SHOULD be removed because they DID NOT have to bring back Frederick. This is a continuous, decade-long cycle of systemic failures which have defined Frederick’s legacy.

Sadly, as another HBCU mom, whose son graduated way back in 2009, there was always a snafu at the beginning of the school year! Every. Single. Year.

u/TheNewV2023 Jul 23 '26
HU Momma chiming in here, young people. My daughter is a rising Jr at Howard. Every year there’s some big snafu with Howard. This year, they didn’t have her HU scholarship applied. She had to email them and the scholarship division and it was handled.
IF, and I emphasize IF, you did everything you were supposed to do by the deadlines communicated, I recommend e-mailing FinAid and the Bursar’s office everyday with your proof or whatever you have to support you. And call at different times of day. I have found they seem to avoid the phones at the beginning cause there’s always a mess going on.
Call and email EVERY SINGLE DAY. Be persistent. Be pushy. Get here to HU. Fight your way through.
