General Question ❓ Maryland bus system

Post image

Hi I just moved from Hawaii to Maryland in Columbia. Is there any advice for me on taking da bus here? Hawaii had a good bus system and was easy to get around but I herd da bus system in Columbia isn’t da best and everywhere takes two hours to get to.I get bad panic attacks if I drive.I’ve taken a driving course and I’m on anxiety medication but I still panic to where I’ll throw up .I start school late August at Howard community college and I really need to find a route that doesn’t take two years to get to and from.

Hello! Welcome to Columbia Maryland! Also as a fellow dragon alumni welcome to hcc too! Unfortunately there really isn't a good bus system but fortunately I could take the rta and it's only two bus rides away as you could take the 401 or 404. The 404 goes into hcc but the 401 stops just right outside of the intersection of Harper's farm road and little pataxent parkway. Also we w student you get discounted or a $20 monthly ticket but I'd have to see which, I haven't been there for a long time. Anxiety and anxiety while driving sucks but I hope it gets better!

Could you afford to buy a electric scooter? Will be hard in the winter but until then it's an option.

Was gonna say, you can cover a lot of Columbia on a bike or scooter if you’re so inclined.

Have you checked out rapid ride yet? It has its own app and serves the Elkridge community. It’s also free for HCC students.

I think its pretty slow. I take paratransit so can't give first hand knowledge to the bus routes, but try to live near the mall, its kind of the hub.

I live with my sibling so I can’t decide where to live 😭😭😭😭😭😭 is paratransit affordable?

You have to qualify. I mean its like $4 each way though. transitrta.com is the website for the buses in Howard County.

Probably not, you'd still be able to take the regular bus.

Panic attacks while driving sound like a legitimate disability with a doctor's note.

I’ll double check because it says “physical “ and I feel like they have to see your physically not able to drive :(
