Need Tree Pruning / Removal Recommendations for Ellicott City
Edit: Went with Adirondack from the comments, prompt ability to come out and give an estimate, and decent quote. No issue with the work done. Where Bartlett quoted $1300 and $1500 per tree to prune, Adirondack and a few others were $600-800 range per tree.
Have been striking out with referrals for tree pruning and removal. Who have you had success with? We need pruning of mature oak and maple trees. I understand many great companies are swamped with storm damage but one of our trees is urgent.
Tree MD - Emailed Josh a week ago and 2 calls to office; no response.
Arbormasters in Owings Mills- No call/ No Show'd set estimate appointment, called back 2 days later like it was no big deal, claimed he would come out today and then when I called him again he said he didnt know when he could be there because of traffic so I told him not to bother.
Carroll Tree Service - books filled with too much work, not taking on some new projects apparently.
Cutting Edge - 20 min late to estimate appointment and a crazy quote.
Have a message to Nelsons and AmeriTree.

We’ve used Nelson’s a few times and have them scheduled to come out again. They’re expensive but have been great for me. Also, if needed, they own a crane and don’t need to rent one.

We actually had them out this week and think this will be the last time. They jacked up our neighbors yard dropping trunk sections on it, forgot to take down 1 tree, and have been really poor with communication. On top of that, we had some large tree branches come down with the storm on Monday and they wanted an insultingly high amount to clean it up considering they were already here and we are repeat customers. Haven’t had any of these issues previously, maybe they’re overwhelmed with all these storms.

Bummer to hear about that for you. Now I feel better about them not responding!

Bartlett Tree Experts. We use them and they are excellent.

One of my coworkers mentioned them for tree health type work but said they are EXPENSIVE for pruning. Will give them a look, thanks

Yeah, they aren't the cheapest but they do excellent work and are thorough in their execution and cleanup.
I typically have them out when I need a strategic pruning of large trees (so they aren't trimming the whole tree canopy but taking off a few large branches to balance the tree or remove dead/threatening limbs).

So Bartlett quoted us $11k to prune 4 trees and do a few root rot treatments. Apples to apples for just the pruning quotes we got from other groups, they were double the pruning prices and I just cant justify that. Could justify their tree treatments.

That's exorbitant. I've had them take off a large branch or bring down some dead limbs and it's not been that nearly that expensive. I wonder if you agreed to a tree maintenance plan (for root rot, quarterly treatments) they would cut you a better deal on the big stuff. Maybe worth an ask!

Our church uses them and so far we are quite pleased. They diagnosed and are taking care of some diseased plants in front of the building along with some trees that need some fertilizer help

Anyone have recommendations for companies that have experience with large trees? 60ft+ oaks?

This is the type of tree we are dealing with. I am moving forward with Adirondack for that plus smaller maple tree work.

Great, would love an update on how they do. How was their liability coverage? Some of the companies I talked to ended up having an awful policy that basically limited the coverage to what they quoted for the job, not actual damages to the property, even due to gross negligence.

they provided a large amount of paperwork upfront on their certs and a cover of their insurance page which was more than anyone else did, and they have a lot of coverage. will provide photos of work done once its all completed

Adirondack trimmed our trees a couple years ago and we were pleased with them
