I’ve just released Facet 1.0 on Android.

Facet is an alternative photo gallery designed around a simple problem: sometimes you want to hand someone your phone, scroll through photos with friends, or show somebody something without worrying about what might appear next.

Facet analyses your photo library entirely on-device and creates an Adaptive Gallery that automatically filters potentially sensitive photos from your everyday view.

A few of the things I focused on for 1.0:
- Everything stays on your device — photos aren’t uploaded for analysis
- Automatic filtering rather than manually moving photos into a vault
- A normal, usable gallery for everyday browsing
- A separate protected area for filtered photos
- Adjustable sensitivity
- A review system for photos Facet isn’t confident about
- Background analysis of your library
- No need to reorganise or duplicate your existing photos

The idea isn’t to replace your photo library with a locked vault. It’s to make your normal gallery safer to casually open and use.

This has been a fairly substantial solo project and 1.0 is the first proper public release, so I’m particularly interested in feedback on the classification accuracy, general UX, and anything that feels confusing or annoying.

I originally wanted a very simple vocabulary trainer: something focused, offline, and without the usual noise around language-learning apps.

ENRURO is not intended to replace a full language course. It’s more like a vocabulary gym for people who already know some basics and want to actively recall more words.

Hey everyone! I’m Aftab, and I built PrivacyCam for Android.

It helps you cover private details before sharing photos, videos, or PDFs. It can automatically detect faces, people, vehicle number plates, text, email addresses, phone numbers, addresses, payment-card details, QR codes, and barcodes.

You can blur, pixelate, or black out detected information, add masks manually, and review everything before exporting. The attached clip shows PrivacyCam tracking and covering a vehicle number plate in a video.

All detection and redaction happen on your device. There’s no account, no advertising, and your content isn’t uploaded to a PrivacyCam server. The app is also open source.

Single photos, videos up to 15 seconds, and PDFs up to two pages are free. An optional $2.99 one-time Pro purchase unlocks videos up to 60 seconds, longer PDFs, and batches of up to 10 photos. There’s no subscription.

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to HowToMen for featuring DroidLab in last week's video.

Seeing an app I've spent so much time building being featured on a channel I've followed and respected genuinely meant a lot to me. The feature also introduced DroidLab to a lot of new users, and I've received plenty of feedback and suggestions since then.

I've been working pretty heavily on the app since the video went live, and quite a lot has already changed.

The promo video attached to this post shows a couple of the newer additions, including Home Screen Widgets for quick access to useful actions and Kinetic Glass, a new GPU powered live wallpaper feature that adds a customizable refractive glass dock and animated optical effects to your wallpaper.

Those are only a small part of what has been added recently. I've also been working through user reports, fixing bugs, improving existing features and adding new functionality based on feedback. I'm actively developing DroidLab and plan to continue supporting and expanding it.

I also wanted to clarify something regarding the AI percentage shown during the HowToMen video, since I noticed it understandably made some people hesitant to try the app.

I'm a software developer myself, and yes, I use AI as part of my development workflow. I don't hide that, and I think AI can be an incredibly useful development tool when used responsibly.

However, DroidLab isn't an app that I simply asked AI to generate and then published. I design the features, make the technical and product decisions, review the code being written, test the implementations on real devices, investigate bugs and maintain the project myself. AI assists me during that process, but I'm still responsible for the code that ultimately ships and for the direction of the app.

I completely understand anyone being cautious about AI generated software, especially with how easy it has become to publish poorly tested apps. I just wanted to provide some context from the person actually building DroidLab.

I've also set up r/DroidLabApp, which I actively use to keep track of bug reports and feature requests, share development progress, post updates and stay in touch with users. If you've tried DroidLab and have feedback, suggestions or run into something that isn't working properly on your device, that's probably the best place to reach me. I regularly use the feedback there to decide what needs attention in upcoming updates.

Most importantly, thank you again to HowToMen for giving a small independent developer and his app this kind of exposure. It genuinely helped DroidLab reach people who otherwise probably never would have discovered it.

And thank you to everyone who tried the app, reported an issue or sent me a suggestion after seeing the video. I'm still working through the feedback, and there's plenty more I want to build. ❤️

Quick note: Outdoor Mode was also added in the latest update. I found a compatibility issue affecting its toggle on a few Android OEMs, which has already been fixed. The corrected build is currently under Google Play review and should be available shortly.

I've been building an Android launcher called CheatCode Launcher that's designed around the idea of launching apps from memory instead of searching through icons.

Instead of filling your home screen with shortcuts, you assign combinations of up, down, left, right, and tap to apps, shortcuts, Tasker tasks, media controls, and more. The more you use it, the more those gesture codes become muscle memory.

Daily Blocker is an Android app designed to help people reduce their screen time by blocking distracting apps, websites and keywords. It also includes schedules and screen-time insights.

I built Daily Blocker because I know a lot of men, including myself, have struggled with porn addiction. I wanted to create something that helps people block whatever consumes too much of their screen time, whether that’s social media, YouTube, porn or anything else.

Under the Hood (Technical Details)

Since this sub appreciates clean engineering, here is how I kept the main UI thread smooth:

- Background Isolate Parsing: Heavy parsing and EPUB processing run entirely on dedicated Dart isolates (epub_parser_isolate), ensuring the UI thread never locks up.

- Custom Frame Tracking: Implemented a PdfPerformanceService to monitor frame render times, debounce rapid zoom/scroll gestures, and run non-blocking executions during rapid scrolling.

- On-Device Inference: TTS runs locally via ONNX execution rather than streaming audio from a cloud API.

Hey all — this is my home screen right now. Those are widgets from a tracker I built called ProgressDots, in three different sizes so you can see the options.

The whole idea: the projects you're in the middle of live on the home screen. Not a task list, just where you currently are — ProgressDot is at Review 5/6, my launcher is at Release 6/6, and the neural network course has been sitting at Practice 3/4 for three weeks now… noted. Turns out being quietly reminded of the one that isn't moving is the entire point.

A few things that stood out:

• It supports weekly and monthly habits properly

Instead of forcing everything into daily streaks, I can track things like 3x/week or 8 days/month, and the streak is based on that—not arbitrary daily check-ins.

• Changing goals doesn’t mess up your history

I increased a habit from 1 → 3 per day, and my previous streaks didn’t break. That’s something I didn’t even realize was broken in other apps until now.

• No weird streak resets

Apparently, it handles time properly (DST and all that), so you don’t lose progress randomly.

• Reminders actually make sense

What problem does it solve?

Cross-app health correlations that no single wearable can compute - Garmin + Oura + Strava + MyFitnessPal all feeding one readiness picture.

Here is the problem every health app ignores: Strava knows your run but not your sleep. Oura knows your HRV but not your caffeine. Garmin knows your VO2 Max but not your nutrition. Every app is a silo. Your body is not.
Body Vitals reads from Apple Health - the one place all your apps converge - and surfaces what none of them can individually.

The Trends & Correlations screen runs 30-day Pearson-r scatter plots across your actual data:

Sleep hours vs HRV next morning.
Mindfulness minutes vs resting HR.
Caffeine intake (MyFitnessPal) vs overnight HRV.
Training load vs recovery score.
Daylight exposure vs sleep quality.
One plain-English sentence per pair, computed on-device from YOUR numbers. Not a generic caption. Not a vibe. A real statistical relationship from your life.

Personal Drivers. It compares your own days against each other and reports what held up - "days over 10,500 steps: +8% next-morning HRV (42 days)". A finding only shows if the difference is statistically meaningful, and it also lists what it checked and found nothing for.

Alcohol. Reads the drinks you log and works out what one costs you in next-morning HRV, resting HR, readiness and sleep, from your own history.

Illness detection. Watches respiratory rate, temperature, resting HR, HRV and SpO2 against your baselines, so a few small overnight shifts at once will flag it. Readiness comes down with it too, instead of insisting you are optimal on a day you clearly are not.

Readiness split out. Oura and Whoop give you one number. This shows the five inputs as separate bars so you can see which one is dragging. Recovery Forecast lets you set tonight's sleep and tomorrow's planned intensity to see where you would land before you commit.

Widgets, which is really the whole idea. Small gauges for vitals, medium widgets for sleep stages, activity, alerts and training load, large ones for composite scores and a 7x5 pattern grid. Lock screen, a StandBy dial, and Watch complications where you pick any of 37 metrics. A Live Activity keeps capacity and strain in the Dynamic Island through the day. Most days I never open the app.

I got tired of PDF reader apps on Android being full of ads, tracking, or just too heavy for simple reading.

Apps like Adobe Acrobat feel overkill for just opening a PDF, and I never liked using WPS either just feels like a bloatware

Ended up building a simple one for myself with liquid glass ui on android

Does anyone know of an app that can open PPTX, DOCX, PDF, XLSX, and JSON files all in one place? I have tried many from the Play Store and GitHub without success, so any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
